    RAW and jpg separation is the same as on the X-T2. Spanner menu, save data settings, card slot settings, RAW/JPEG. I use this on my X-H1 as well as my X-T2.

    Nice review. Thanks. I’ve had XH1 for a month or so and the longer I shoot it the more I like it. I don’t notice the extra weight in the camera since most weight is in the glass. Feels great with the 35mm f2 for example. And more balanced with 16-55mm...with IBIS.

    Thanks Andy for a nice comparison. I have both the X-T2 and the X-H1. Shooting a lot of 4 minute exposures, often in warm weather, (living in Dubai), the X-h1 has in my view a better cooling of the sensor resulting in less hot pixels than the X-T2.

    • @larsmoller870
      @larsmoller870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Praise Olawuni Neither of those cameras are specifically made for video. However, between the two, the X-H1 has built in image stabilization that could be very useful plus it has better cooling of the sensor which will allow you to shoot longer videos.

    Sold my XT1 to get the XH1. I miss the small size of the XT1. And, ironically, I don't do video. I still find that I still prefer my Nikon D750. Love your take, Andy. PS: I miss the exp. comp dial !

    Been reading about the XH1. This camera had the misfortune to come out at about the same time as some other manufacturers. Then several months later Fuji pulled the rug out from under the XH1 by releasing the XT3. Apparently the XH1 was buggy on release and FW updates improved the performance so it isn’t the same body.

    • @AndyMumford

      Yeah, I think Fuji have acknowledged that they botched the release of the X-H1, and I think it's only with last years XH2 and XT5 launches that they properly synchronised and differentiated the two lines.

    Solid video showing off the Fujifilm IQ being great for a crop sensor. To my eyes as good as some full frame sensors at 3200 iso's and below. I also don't see the need for Full Frame cost, size and weight with Fujifilms files being so good.

      Thanks for the comment, glad you found the video useful. I agree with you about not needing full frame...I used full frame for a long time, and since I switched to APS-C I haven't seen or felt any decline in the quality of my images, nor has it had any effect on my business. What people actually need and what they think they need are often two different things.

    Hi Andy, Im a user of two xt 2. For me the pictures you are showing at 10:48 are smudgy and same as mine from that camera or fuji xt2. I have owned 5d mk3 and Nikon d750. Right now im selling all my fuji gear and buying Nikon again. Those are not detailed pictures or sharp, just like mine in lightroom. Yes you can print it but the amount of details im getting from this camera is not near pleasing like my nikon or canon cameras. Your review of this camera is one of 100 i have watched on youtube and decided to sell everything from Nikon and jump on Fuji train.

    • @godofhope
      @godofhope 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ante Gugić probably it’s Lightroom. You could try Capture One. It handles Fuji RAW files much better! But Nikon and Canon have their own advantages and Color science. Some are saying Fuji colors are unusable for landscapes, some are saying there is nothing better... Your own experience and opinions are the only one you should trust.

The X-H1 looks a great camera but i can't see the need for one myself as since ver 4 update the XT2 does everything i need my only niggles with the XT2 are the AE-L and AF-L buttons are a bit small and cause me to fumble to operate them at times.Thanks for taking the time to do the comparison i look forward to seeing the XT-3.

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jason, glad you like the videos. At some point I plan to do a comparison of the Fuji wide angle lenses. The 16mm probably has the best IQ of any of them, and it would be great for lifestyle, but for landscapes I really need to be able to shoot wider if I want to include a foreground really close to the lens and be able to still fit in the tops of mountains etc in the background.

  • @gryzman
    @gryzman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    As far as I was told, X-H1 has a newer generation CPU, or it is due core - as oppose to the X-T2. That accounts for power savings and faster operation - thus saving battery and allowing 200mbps rates

    • @sclogse1
      @sclogse1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No on the battery savings. And that includes the pricey S battery. Adding the battery grip, of course adds two more batteries.

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe that's true in that you can film unlimited. What happens is that after 15 minutes the camera stops recording and starts again, but it does it so quickly that when you put the two files together it's seamless.

    Hi Andy, when you were making the switch from Nikon full frame to APS-C, did you consider going down the Nikon APS-C route- e.g. D7200 and Nikkor 10-24mm DX lens?

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I didn't Gordon. The switch wasn't just about using a smaller camera and lenses. Other factors were the features of mirrorless cameras the DX dSLRs don't have. Things like the EVF and LCD showing me exactly what the image is going to look like for example, and a big part of it was how intuitive I found Fuji cameras and how they made me fall in love with photography all over again. It's hard to explain, but I really like using cameras that just get out of the way and make shooting and allow me to focus on the pleasure of being in a place and taking pictures there. Fuji cameras have actually made me lazy from a technical point of view as they are so easy to expose and focus, but I really appreciate that I spend less time now thinking about the technical aspects of photography and more on the creative. But this is entirely subjective and personal, I appreciate different people find different things intuitive and enjoy different things about photography.

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, IBIS is really something I think a lot of people don't really need if they're not shooting a video. I'm really on the fence about how useful it is in still photography 99% of the time.

    I changed from canon to the Fuji XH1 and I'm finding it has far too many in camera options that just get in the way. I think I worked it out it did over a thousand options for taking a photo. The camera is set to B&W and all of a sudden it's changing to colour! with out me pressing anything. By pressing the back button it's altering all my options. What happened to simplicity like film cameras. All my work is manual with primes and that's all I want. FUJI if your listening, just build a camera for taking photographs, not video and certainly not a computer to decide if I can take the image.

    • @AndyMumford

    I can't get that quality from the camera. I use the 35mm f2 and no matter what shutter speed the image seems it has very slight motion blur even at 1/1000 at f8 with auto or manual focus and ibis off. Grass and brush are very untidy and fine detail is terrible even at iso200 when shooting grass or foliage and it seems to apply some sort of colour averaging where contrast is lost when there is a lot of greens, this is a little noticeable in your images too.. I'm wondering if I've got an issue with my sensor as a lot of the images seem to have haze and when my raws are previewed on my pc theyre much brighter than my jpegs

      A couple more X-H1 exclusives, as of now: DR400 video and linear focus.
      If I could only have Fuji add one more video feature to the X-T2, DR400 is what I would want them to add. Two more stops of dynamic range makes a world of difference when using the film simulations. The linear focus option makes manually focusing so much better, too.

    Andy, terrific review. When you were testing and shooting the X-H1 with IBIS turned on and using an image stabilized lens such as the XF10-24 or 55-200, is it necessary to turn off the lens OIS or did you have both active?

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peter. The IBIS works in conjunction with the IOS on the lens. You can turn one off and leave the other on. For the example here I had the lens turned on and the IBIS off, then I turned them both on because this gives an idea of the improvement IBIS gives over OIS.

      There's no one setting that I can recommend. It depends on the intensity of the light, on the lens, whether you have the sun in your frame or not or if it's reflecting off a surface in your frame. Aperture should be between f8 and f16 for maximum sharpness, preferably at f11 or f13, and the shutter speed according to the light.

    Very informative video. Thank you! I know the minimum operational temperature of X-H1 (and X-T2 also?) is -10 C, but do you think it can withstand even colder weather (like -20~30 C)? I'm going to climb Denali (fka. Mt. McKinley) in Alaska next spring and also possibly climbing Vinson Massif in Antarctica later next year. Hence, I'm looking for a rugged yet lightweight camera (lighter than Canon 5D Mk III)... other than Leica X-U. I heard Fuji lenses are lighter (yet durable) compare to Canon L lenses as well. I've been using Canon 5D w/ L lenses for my mountaineering trips, but that set up is very heavy and bulky for it. I got to test out Sony a7III, but it seems a little bit too filmsy and doesn't seem to withstand hash weather or banging into ice and rocks. I'm hoping X-H1 or X-T2 and its lenses will be the solution for it. Any insights will be appreciated. Thank you!

      I've used the X-T2 down to -17ºC in northern Norway this February and it was fine. It got covered in snow and it never affected the camera at all. I've been using the system for about three years now and while I've not mountaineered with it, I've found the X-T2 to be pretty tough. I only had the X-H1 for a week or so to review it and that felt even sturdier. One thing to remember though in extreme cold is the effect on battery life. Mirrorless cameras already chew through batteries faster than your Canon 5D does - you get a little over 300 shots per charge, and cold can reduce the battery efficiency even more. The X-H1 I also found went through batteries faster than my X-T2 because of the IBIS.
      One way of mitigating it is to drop a battery pack in your backpack. I've got an Anker 13000 power bank which I use with a Neewer USB charger www.amazon.com/Neewer-NW-W126-Battery-Charger-Fujifilm/dp/B019C51VJW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1535816257&sr=8-1&keywords=fuji+neewer+usb I have two batteries with me and as soon as a battery is finished I just charge it from the power bank. It lasts me days and is much cheaper than buying lots of batteries.

      @loisaidaking 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much Andy for all the detailed info! Yes, I always bring 2 extra batteries and also an Anker 26800 external battery for mountaineering and backpacking trip. It was more than enough for Kilimanjaro climb with the 5D (8 days on the mountain w/o power.) I usually keep extra batteries in my pocket (whatever close to my body) to keep them warm. It's great to hear that X-T2 is also built tough with good weatherproof. I think I'll definitely add a Fuji camera (I actually already got a X-100F which I love), but it'll be a tough choice between X-H1 (IBIS since I usually shoot handheld while climbing) and X-T2 ... or X-T3 as I heard it'll be released soon (smaller body). Again, thank you for taking your time replying to my question! I recently found your channel and watched most of the videos. I really enjoyed them all. Your photos are stunning and inspiring!

    I still have some fear to switch from Canon ff to fuji but I am on the way. I had the chance to handle the xt2 for a couple of weeks, but it was a gray weather and I didn't really tested it on my mountains. Anyway, actually the xh1 has a really good deal, 800 € with the grip included.
    How you would recommend it with the 10-24 mm lens? Maybe I can still use my other canon lens with an adaptor ring. For sure, it's actually out the XT3..

      Thanks for the comment. I'm loathe to talk about the worming issues as believe it or not, it's highly subjective. People who sharpen their images a lot and zoom in to 200% will see worming, but that's not how I edit, nor how I care to view my images. If it looks good at 100% and in print, then I'm fine with that, so for me it's always been a non issue.

    Another nice video Andy, a pleasure to watch. Your channel and photography is a key reason I've stuck with my XT2 for landscape because I did struggle to get fine detail out of the RAW files with Lightroom, the dreaded 'worms' really did cause me issues with rock textures and foliage. You never have this issue (do you use Iridient before LR)? In terms of the XH1, I am a huge fan of IBIS for my other genre (street) but size and battery life of the XH1 are just too much for me, I am stupidly hoping the XT3 to have IBIS.... but likely won't :(

    • @AndyMumford
      @AndyMumford  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pep, thanks for the comment, I'm really glad you like the video. I honestly don't use Iridient on my files and process my RAWs straight in Lightroom and then Photoshop. I don't know if you saw my previous video but I went through my process there, and I think it might be because I add almost no sharpening at all to my files. The images of mine that you'll have seen are all on the web, and I have a process for resizing and sharpening the files to be uploaded to the web, but that adds sharpening only to the resized file, not to the original. th-cam.com/video/mNkx1KOP9gc/w-d-xo.html

      I've just seen the other part of your comment about the XT3 and battery like on the XH1. The XT3 almost certainly won't have IBIS, it looks like Fuji have developed the X-H line exclusively for that, however from the rumours I've read Fuji have made a significant upgrade to the battery on the X-T3. Apparently the the X-T3 will still work with X-T2 batteries, and as the X-H1 uses the same batteries as the X-T2 then it's possible that the X-H1 will get better performance from the new batteries.

I went to Fuji from Canon originally because I felt Fuji had the nicest blend of good stills and video within one camera body (starting with the XT20 and XT2 lineup). But from some of the rumors I’ve heard, I think the XT3 might be what I’m looking for. IBIS isn’t quite as important to me because when I want smoother shots I usually use a gimbal or slider.

    Could some Fujifilm users explain this to me honestly, please?
    As a Nikon full-frame (FX) user for 20 years coming from the film era, for the first time ever during April and May of 2018, I rented both Fujifilm X-H1 and X-T2 with Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM Lens (35mm Equivalent: 24-82.5mm) each for 3 weeks and put them through every test possible to me.
    My ideal goal was to buy a light-weight still/video camera to replace my Nikons DSLR D750, D810 (for stills)/Nikon 24-70mm and my Panasonic Lumix G85 (for Videos) on those days that I want to pack light and be compact.
    The videos on Nikon don’t look good to me and the stills from G85 aren’t acceptable.
    I need extreme details in my landscape/cityscape shots by keeping the hyperfocal distance acceptably sharp for my Panorama stitched images to be able to zoom in and see the outmost details.
    The images (which were of the same subjects and almost the same composition/focal length) coming out of my D750 (24.3 MP) and D810 (45.7 MP) were much better in every way: color rendition, shadows, highlight details, sharpness even zoomed-in at 400% than of X-H1’s and X-T2’s.
    F Stops used in D750, X-H1 and X-T2 were from f5.6 to f22. Every single shot coming out of my D750 had more defined details and higher sharpness and better colors compared to X-H1’s and X-T2’s.
    Now, please forget about the Nikon D850 and just focus on the D750 (24.3 MP) compared to X-H1 (24.3 MP).
    I processed the RAW images under every f-stop in Lightroom but I also compared un-processed RAW pixel by pixel as a stack in Photoshop. Results were consistent.
    The un-graded videos compared to G85 were on lower quality on many aspects. Deep shadows and high contrast in X-H1 doesn’t work for me. The little devil: G85 produces way better videos under the same settings and adjustments than X-H1 and X-T2 even before tweaking them in Premiere Pro. I returned both X-H1 and X-T2 in frustration and disappointment.
    I documented 40 problems with X-H1 which I could ignore but the image quality is something else I don’t understand. I really loved to keep the X-H1. Could you Fujifilm experts tell me what’s going on? I am not talking about Fujifilm affiliates who must praise the Fujifilm.
    Thank you.

    Because of all the great lens.
    But my x-t3 has the most awesome Sensor.
    I tried the xh1 at the camera store and it mad my hand hurt
    The Olympus em 1 mark ii felt great.
    But the panisonic g9 felt perfect.
    I want one system but the 18-55mm lens is awesome
    And the 55-200mm is a bit too short for wild life
    Were the Olympus 40-150mm 80-300mm
    Gives you an extra 100mm

      Exactly the same for me. Love Pana and olympus but i feel little limitations in low light. Also the price of the XH1 is very low (under 750 euros in grey market), in comparison with EM5-III at 1199 euros. Stabilization is a top must to have for me (especially for wildlife shooting and video). I had a G9 and XT3...but i don't know...i didn't felt in love with them, whereas i had a nikon d600 for 6 years. I'm lost in all theses differents systems, impossible to take a stand.
