I wonder if the first witches and wizards who had walking staves and canes accidentally found their magic strwngthened when holding such wooden aids. This might be why staves and canes have been reported to have magical powers from Gandalf's staff or Shillaleys to Baba Yaga's cane, and so on. I wonder if Asia magical folk even use twin wands out of the chopstick tradition to make magic. Or possibly from wooden knitting needles to litterally weave and knit magic. Some magic folk might have found that keeping associated items of magical creatures was also benficial, such as a feather in one's cap, a "rabbut's foot",Newt's eye, etc. Eventually the Woden objects grew smaller and were combined with the other magical element enhancers. I my imagination that is how it came about. Combination of magic enhancing wooden objects and magic enhancing fetishes to make some of the earliest wands.

I would love this too. And likely try more modern materials or more sustainable woods (bamboo and hemp for example). With both hemp and bamboo it could easily be farmed. Imagine experimenting and discovering that acrylic made an excellent 21st century wand material.
I don't believe they teach wand making at Hogwarts. The schooling system is... a bit peculiar and we don't know much about studying possibilities after Hogwarts... Do we?
@Tht it seems that they follow the older (and better) educational training through apprenticeship. I would imagine Ollivander had apprentices through the years (without giving away all his secrets). He didn't have children so someone would need to be taught to take over.
What if Percy was sorted into slytherin What if harry killed bellatrix at the ministry What if sirius raised harry What if James and lily survived What if voldemort gave snape the diary What if remus wasn't a werewolf
I think we have to remember that pretty much everyone back then had the had some level of Woodcraft skills or someone in their Village that was a dedicated Carpenter. My theory on that matter is pretty simple. He looked at and studied how the wand Isolt had looked and then simply carved wood she told him to carve into a similar shape but with different designs. He would have used a hand drill or a bow drill to very carefully make the hole where the core would be placed. So the physical work of making the outside of a wand is something completely within the skills of a no-Maj Carpenter. Adding the core would have been his wife's prerogative and because the two wands that we know for certain James made used shavings from the Horn of a horned serpent. You're talkin about a relatively small amount of material not something long, skinny and difficult like unicorn hair or Phoenix Feather or even dragon heartstring. Which presumably you need to have at least a few inches worth of these longer materials to get enough inside the wand to do anything. The horned Serpent's horn being a denser material you probably didn't need nearly as much of it as far as deepth into the wand is concerned. This relatively easy set being the first wands he made makes a lot of sense. Overtime making a lot of them I'm sure he would get more and more skilled at it. But when you consider that no-maj fans of the series all of the world put bits of wood on turning lathe, all the time making wands that look like the ones in the movie and are described in the books. It's clearly a skill that's well within the realm of what someone with no magical ability at all can do. What separates wands in the Magical World from things that we can do in real life is the existence and in some cases even control of these magical creatures enough to have a steady supply of working wand cores.
I think whoever discovered the idea of channeling their magic through a stick was likely in a wizards duel and were about to be defeated when they grabbed the nearest branch lying upon the ground and without thinking yelled out the killing curse and found the magic flowing somewhat through the branch and killing their foe, also I think the branch likely caught fire because the cores would regulate the flow of magic and act like a tap to control the flow of magic!!
This what I believe when it comes to wand making. As you’ve stated, a wand focuses and extends the power of the witch, or wizard who uses it. And,as you stated, there are two main components to a wands construction; the wood and the magical core within it. Wood, unlike a more solid substance, such as a metal, has many unique qualities that make it ideal in wand lore. There are several types of wood and each is unique in its own particular way. For example, each type of wood has its own brand of strength, it’s own type of liner cell structure and density. And each can enhance a particular core in a different way. Part of the craft in making a wand has to do with the way a core is placed in it’s wood host. Will it be placed folded in a clockwise, or counter clockwise position? Will it be placed with the narrow end up, or down? And so forth. Another consideration is the depth of the core hole in to which it is placed, the thickness of it’s host, etc. As you mentioned no two wands are alike. And each who uses it will have different degrees of success doing so based on these factors and others.
What if we made a wand out of a piece of the magical whooping Willow tree outside Hogwarts with a Phoenix feather or dragon heartstring core it would be very interesting and maybe very powerful lol
Man I don't know why, but I find Slytherin's wand to be one of the most fascinating things in the lore. Imagine having such high affinity for snakes that he can pull off the pairing of snakewood and basilisk horn. It seems like an obvious pair but if it was that natural to combine them it would be a lot more common occurrence especially within the Gaunt family who were proud parselmouths
2:50 I like to think that based on Ollivander's comment in The Wandmaker Ch. 24 of the Deathly Hallows, that any instrument can be used to channel a wizard's magic, that the first wands were not wands at all, but everyday weapons such as swords, spears even axes, they would cast enchantments while holding their weapons in battle, and upon noticing a much more powerful/effective incantation, they began to experiment, and thus wands were created
He says he's got a lot of ambition. I'm a Ravenclaw btw, I have wit and intelligence, I value wit and intelligence but also ambition. I think I can do with being a Slytherin but I would question the sorting if I got Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, I'm not that kind nor that brave
Nice breakdown for the Potter Universe. But I'm surprised you didnt go into detail on how Rowling chose what wand went with what characters. The woods are based off of the Celtic version of the zodiac. Each wood has characteristic. You can actually match these up pretty well with the owners. But not only did Rowling take that detail, but she also includes the length, which is a big part. She must have done a lot of planning ahead. You can take the length of each person's wand on the books and using numerology, it will give you the matching characteristics of that character. It's pretty impressive that she went that deep into building the foundation for wands and their meaning and how they are matched. I also believe each h of the character's names are supposed to match to what kind of person they are in numerology also, but I could be mistaken on that part.
SeedlessJellyBeans yes. They handcrafted a “ master” copy of each wand out of wood and then made a mold of each wand so they could make as many copies as they needed.
What about the muggle that made a wand with the serpents horn? The muggle that ended up marrying the founder of ilvermore school. He knew nothing of wand lore, he was a stone mason. But somehow crafted a wand for the oldest boys 11th birthday, with no knowledge of how to or by using magic. So how did that happen?
The core could be inserted by drying the wood completely, making a hole in the handle for the core to fit and rehydrating the wood. This would make it so that the core could not slide out
"One wand is needed to make another." It's a simple, but profound insight, the single most important thing said in this video . . . and it explains so much.
Fantastic video! I think the core comes first and then the wand maker would magically encourage the chosen wood to grow up around it, encasing the core completely ready to be carved.
The ideal behind the old gods being magicians makes so much sense on such a bounding scale. Wow.... Haha I love your videos, even after all that time away, always.

Do a video what would happen if Remus Lupin stayed as the DADA Professor in the 4th Year of Harry, also do a one which is: What if Peter Pettigrew died in the Prisoner of Azkaban
I always wondered what would happen if Remus Lupin stayed as Professor. It would have to be if Snape never blurted out his secret, or if Hogwarts itself lasted with parents pulling their kids out od school?
Ok but aside from all of this... Why the hell did they use a big stick for James’s wand in the order of the Phoenix when harry saw some of snakes memories.
This is a good video, but I'm still left with that one burning question, how did they get the core into the wood? Unfortunately the only answer we seem to have is it's magic.
@@ladykoiwolfe they probably cap it with a wooden peg or fill the hole with a sort of resin. If the hole is super tiny, only as big as the core, you wouldnt be able to see that unless you looked close at the ends.
Thank you for a great birth day present. I have been hoping for a "how to make a wand" video for a long time, and you delivered it for my birth day today!!!
Firstly like he said in the Video making a Wand is extremely difficult even for an advanced wizard so 1st years would blow up themselfes while trying or nothing will happen. And the other problem is the Wand choose the Wizard and just by making them you are not the Owner of the Wand otherwise everyone has to duel olivander so he becomes the owner of the wand. (Sry for my englisch its not quite perfect yet)
From Wiki: Aaron's rod refers to any of the staves carried by Moses's brother, Aaron, in the Torah. The Bible tells how, along with Moses's rod, Aaron's rod was endowed with miraculous power during the Plagues of Egypt that preceded the Exodus. There are two occasions where the Bible tells of the rod's power.
Or the wand maker used the "muggle" method called drilling. Drill a shaft into the wood then carefully thread the core in. Or its possible that the wood may be naturally hollow .
As a native Californian, having grown up in Northern California and visited the redwoods on numerous occasions, I can’t help but wonder how powerful a wand made from wood collected from the top of one of these oldest and tallest trees in the world. You can really feel the power and wisdom in these beings that have graced our land for over 3,000 years while standing in their forests.

Yeah. I think its just Mad Eye Moody that uses a magic staff/walking staff.
@@NotHere07 And Hagrid his umbrella.. at least in the movie.
No. It’s in the books that hagrid uses the umbrella to cast spells.
What if Percy was sorted into slytherin
What if harry killed bellatrix at the ministry
What if sirius raised harry
What if James and lily survived
What if voldemort gave snape the diary
What if remus wasn't a werewolf
Yes, I would definitely be interested in watching all of these topics for the next vids! Except for the 2nd choice.
What if Voldemort gave snape the diary is the most interesting of all of these
what if voldermort and harry potter were never born . we wouldnt be subbed to this channel i suppose lol
All of these!!!
Damn, that wrecks the whole history of Harry Potter
Remember also that James Steward, a No-Maj, created wands with the help of Isolt for Ilvermorny students. Now that is impressive!
Impressive that ilvermorney made it .
I thought he did it by himself... Like with no guidance

1:03 EYY THAT'S MY WAND! Got chosen at Universal, Reed, 15 1/2 inches, pleasantly firm, with the core of a Dragon Heartstring.
Me too!!!
Mine is 16 1/2 inches pretty flexible, dragon heartstring core and applewood
Mine is Rowan Wood, pretty flexible 13 inches with a Dragon Heartstring Core
Ebony wood with a dragon heartstring core, 13" and unyielding flexibility
I think whoever discovered the idea of channeling their magic through a stick was likely in a wizards duel and were about to be defeated when they grabbed the nearest branch lying upon the ground and without thinking yelled out the killing curse and found the magic flowing somewhat through the branch and killing their foe, also I think the branch likely caught fire because the cores would regulate the flow of magic and act like a tap to control the flow of magic!!
I always thought the wood was made flexible and then the core was rolled into it like a fruit rollup
That would be interesting
or it is made as the tree/branch grows and the wood embeds around the core
My wand is very flexible like more then it should be
I thought it was cut in half and the core is just squashed in there
Fruit roll up core sounds awesome and delicious 😋
Your grammar is almost perfect. Stop starting sentences with “and”
What if we made a wand out of a piece of the magical whooping Willow tree outside Hogwarts with a Phoenix feather or dragon heartstring core it would be very interesting and maybe very powerful lol
I’ve missed your videos so much!
I'm back for good :)
Harry Potter Folklore glad to hear it!! ❤️
Why did none of the protagonists even think of studying wand lore?
I know your a proud Slytherin 💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚 but with all your knowledge in H.P content you could be a successful Ravenclaw 💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤💙
More like Gryffindor, based on how much he sounds like Dean Thomas.
Loved this video! I think I asked about a year ago how they were made. Thank you! Very interesting!
I also believe each h of the character's names are supposed to match to what kind of person they are in numerology also, but I could be mistaken on that part.
thats really cool, thanks for the extra info
Very interesting. I wasn't aware that numerology or zodiac was involved in the making of wands.
Well... I mean, Lily Evans could make a flower bloom without a wand.
Harry made the glass disappear in the zoo and made aunt Marge into a balloon wandlessly.
So wands are like technology to them.
no
"please only support me if you can afford it" you're so awesome, I love you 🤗
.... plastic injection molding, that’s how wands are made
SeedlessJellyBeans yes. They handcrafted a “ master” copy of each wand out of wood and then made a mold of each wand so they could make as many copies as they needed.
Glad to have you back. I hope your break got you the rest you needed.
Magic helped him.
Can you make a video on creation of spells
The core could be inserted by drying the wood completely, making a hole in the handle for the core to fit and rehydrating the wood. This would make it so that the core could not slide out
This is nice info im trying to create blueprints for different wands from the potter world. This will help alot thanks!
Loved the way how you related the existence of Gods with the wandless magic before wand were made .
Great video , ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔥🔥🔥💎💎💎 Dean

"One wand is needed to make another." It's a simple, but profound insight, the single most important thing said in this video . . . and it explains so much.
Oh my gosh I love this video. It has a different feel to it. I love it! 😍
My wand dream
Size:16 inches
Core:Unicorn's hair,2 dragon's heartstring,dementors essense,thestral tail and phoenix wing
Wood:Elder wood
Wands have a single core.
Are Wand Cores pieces of the souls/life forces of whatever animals they're taken from, and is this why Wands are quasi-sentient?
At the very least, an echo of the soul.
Fantastic video! I think the core comes first and then the wand maker would magically encourage the chosen wood to grow up around it, encasing the core completely ready to be carved.
Imagine if a wand was made with two dragon heartstring cores in elder wood. It would be OP.
Imagine a dementor essence core
“Dementor wrappings”?
Or take the basilisk skeleton from Hogwarts or the giant spider aragog to use lol
Imagine a handful of threstral hairs in a elder wand going off like a nuke lol 😆
The ideal behind the old gods being magicians makes so much sense on such a bounding scale. Wow.... Haha I love your videos, even after all that time away, always.

Apparently, a wand can be made of stone or metal. Bone and ivory had also been used, I think.
This is the first time I was early on your channel
thank you so much I've spent the better part of six months for a solo campaign im in trying to figure out how the first wand was made and it drove me to the brink of just giving up on it.

Not necessarily.

The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter... 😎
On Pottermore is how I got my wand. And my wand is Pear Wood with Unicorn Hair core 12" and pliant flexibility

Ok but aside from all of this...
Why the hell did they use a big stick for James’s wand in the order of the Phoenix when harry saw some of snakes memories.
Might have just been a camera angle issue
Do this could you make a wand made of all woods and cores
"How It's Made Wand" anyway nice video gj.
How to piss everyone off: a lightsaber and a wand are apparently the same thing in some cases
This is a good video, but I'm still left with that one burning question, how did they get the core into the wood? Unfortunately the only answer we seem to have is it's magic.
they probably put it in one end of the hole and summon it through the other end.
@@CHLOCHLOLP but we never see a hole at either end.
@@ladykoiwolfe they probably cap it with a wooden peg or fill the hole with a sort of resin. If the hole is super tiny, only as big as the core, you wouldnt be able to see that unless you looked close at the ends.
@@CHLOCHLOLP i dunno seems too muggle of an approach.
@@ladykoiwolfe they dont do eveything differently, they just use magic to help a lot of the time.
Thank you for a great birth day present. I have been hoping for a "how to make a wand" video for a long time, and you delivered it for my birth day today!!!
I've wondered why no one thought to put the Unbreakable charm on their wand, to prevent it from being broken.
What do I want to be when I grow up? A wand maker! Seriously, I'm practicing!
In Star Wars Jedi padawans have to build there own lightsabers, why can’t the first students who begin at hogwarts learn how to make there own wands

10 minutes to hear they drill a hole at the back and using magic they slide the core inside
Not going there
As a native Californian, having grown up in Northern California and visited the redwoods on numerous occasions, I can’t help but wonder how powerful a wand made from wood collected from the top of one of these oldest and tallest trees in the world. You can really feel the power and wisdom in these beings that have graced our land for over 3,000 years while standing in their forests.
