Thanks for the detailed first impressions. Could you maybe compare it to the Page in your full review? I am particularly interested in how the screens look side by side when the front light is off - while reading and highlighting ebooks. I enjoy color coding the highlights but am curious how the screens compare in brightness and contrast. Also, any additional info regarding when the white version will be available would be great!
@@anam00090 there are no videos comparing colour eink devices to bw eink devices, I've searched high and low. Because colour eink screens are noticeably dimmer compared to bw counterparts
@@EdelineLim Yeah, thank you. I know they are dimmer but gaging just how dim would be so helpful. I usually enjoy less contrast in my texts, so I can see myself not minding a greyer display but there's a spectrum of what my eyes will find acceptable. I would have loved to see that contrast. I will end up purchasing Go Color 7 probably and hope it looks okay
This was the in-depth deep dive video I needed for this device! I'm still going back and forth over whether to get the Palma or the Go Color. It was great to get to see all the different settings and ways you can customize how the screen displays text.
Yes! I have been looking forward to hearing your input on this device 😁🤩. I have not been able to find the right settings to completely eliminate ghosting through full refresh per page, etc. I would love it if you could test reading a comic/graphic novel on a third party app like Kindle or one of the free copies that Marvel Unlimited provides in their trial, etc. 😁. I will watch this video in it's entirety tomorrow and look forward to your in-depth review! Thank you for all that you do for the Eink community Voja! 🤩😁
Ah you looked at comics here, I see! Mine continues to have really bad ghosting with the same settings as you 🤔 Was that comic in neo reader or a third party app?
If you set the refresh to happen on every 1 operation and switch to Depth refresh method, and of course Normal or Regal Refresh speed, that should give you ghosting free reading experience.
@MyDeepGuide Thank you, I will try again. The problem I have had is that I only see depth refresh on neoreader and not under third-party settings - maybe I'm just lost though... I have my refresh set to full refresh with every one page click. I have tried switching between normal and regal as well optimal and vivid. I might need to play more with custom after watching this video (I couldn't wait until tomorrow to watch the rest, so I have chosen a poor night of sleep for me in order to see this 😅).
I also would love to see functionality using marvel unlimited and dc universe comics apps. I have a real problem with eye strain when reading comics on tablets so am interested in eink color functionality.
Very interesting, thanks for your preview. I'd like to buy a colour ereader but I'm not really convinced of the Kaleido 3 tech. Does anyone know if there is something better in the making ?
I think the "fuzziness" of text that you mentioned is just the combination of the small screen (so less pixels) and the color filter array on top of it. Big documents are forced to be rendered in a smaller resolution because of the smaller screen, so text has to be made up of less pixels, so it looks fuzzier, especially because of the color filter array on top of it too.
They're saying the white version, once it's released, will have a flush screen as well. Will have to wait and see I guess. I personally prefer the flush screen since it's more up to date looking.
@@craigshandworld The black one is also a flush screen. I just was commenting that some people are saying that the white one will have a recessed non-flush screen like older e-readers. It may, but I've seen it said the white will have the same screen as the black so we'll have to wait and see. They sure are taking their time coming out with the white version. I initially didn't like the Go 7 compared to my Boox Tab Mini C but I'm getting used to it and enjoying its light weight.
@@Sybilla9 why didn't you like it compared to the tab mini? Tab mini is 7.8 right? I have the boox nova color that's 7.8. I want even smaller and so I'm dying 7 go
@@craigshandworld Well the Tab min C (yes it's 7.8) has bsr ,which the Go 7 doesn't have, so it reduces ghosting without a lot of setting changes, making for a much better image. Plus the colors just seem to be more sharply defined and not as washed out as the Go 7 has. But after fiddling with the Go 7's e-ink settings I have it pretty good as far as ghosting, and the weaker color I've gotten used to. I do find myself using the Go 7 quite a bit more now because I love its light weight.
I am a university student and I would like to see recorded classes on that boox go color 7 tablet, I can't pay more for a kaleido 3 screen, do you think it is possible to see my classes on this tablet or is it very annoying?
Maybe I’m mistaken (please correct me if I am), but when you “disabled the front light” at 12:24, it looks like you only turned off the warm front light but left the cold front light on still?
Nope, they have changed that some time ago. Top slider is the overall intensity, bottom slider with the front light color balance, left is cold, right is warm.
Hi. I want to get a kaleido3 device for reading comic books mostly. I'd get this device but it seems a bit too small, and would rather go for the 7.8" tab mini c. Can I expect the same kind of visual quality, features and performance (or better) on the mini c? One downside of the mini is that it has android 11, vs go color 7 and note air 3c that have 12, does that matter?
I'm really not a fan of Kaleido 3, dark screen, less sharp, battery hungry, it really cuts into the primary benefits of e-ink. For colour I'm going to stick to my iPad, for writing / reading, it's the good old black and white eInk (currently own a Scribe and Remarkable2, but leaning towards the RM2).
I don’t understand why it’s 2024 and the ergonomics on these devices are still such shit. I literally can’t give up my aging Oasis because of how superior it is in this respect.

Thanks for hunting down the "text enhancement" setting that was causing the fuzzyness.
If this had a pen (and was waterproof), I would definitely buy one.

How is the ghosting on this vs the Kobo Libra Colour? I also understand that the colors are better on the Boox vs the Kobo, is that true?

Nah, because the same document on other 7" Kaleido 3 readers didn't render like that.
great review, I'm looking forward to seeing what the video looks like on this device
Thanks! I won't be testing that, as this device is not meant to be used for video playback.
Have you tried turning on developer mode in android settings? On a phone it speeds things up by quite a bit, so may even speed up things here also?

Thanks for the first impression. Could I ask, that in depth review, that you please compare the screen on the Go 7" to the Note Air 3C.
the fuzzy maybe comes from color only being 150ppi , where as b/w would be 300ppi

I have been playing broken sword on my, so it's mostly a click graphic adventure abd doable, nimot perfect by any means, but playable

Well, I still think kaleido 3 is too dark and grainy. So its not pleasant to eyes. Colors are washed out.
