Or 75$ sks....1,000 rnds of x39 for 100 and 30$ shipping because of the weight. I was 23 when the crime bill melted away. People were in shop at first...oh my pre 89' ban whatever isn't worth 5k$ anymore? Lol shotgun news since I was 15 I read that. The under barreled .50bmg single shot for an ar15 never got off the ground....shame.
Looks like you got a nice kit overall.. need to check the numbers to see what matches. There is a huge spreadsheet with peoples numbers on ak file's.. many people have located their matching parts. Worth a look...great video as always

North Korean guns are always cool and interesting to see. The North Koreans always seemed to follow Russian Patterns rather than Chinese.

I have a few of these kits, there seems to be only 2 small variations that I can see within my sample. They are the serial number on the guide rod (it can be stamped or etched), and the lower hand guard may or may not have the drilled hole through the bottom.
From my kits, the earlier serial number 41xxx will have the stamped serial number on the recoil spring guide like you would see on a Russian, and the lower hand guard does not have the drilled hole. Serial number kits 51xxx, 61xxx & 81xxx have etched numbers on the guide rod and the hole is drilled in the lower hand guard. Just thought that was interesting differences. From what I’ve researched, this is the same for most kits people have.
The consensus from the peanut gallery of the files, is you have the possibility of having up to 8 matching serial numbers on the kit (Front trunnion, gas tube, sight leaf, guide rod, bolt, bolt carrier, dust cover, and the ejector.) the ejector is kind of a pain since you have to fully dissemble the bolt to see it. All but one of my kits had the last 3 numbers etched on the ejector.
The rear trunnion being numbered is still up for debate on it truly being a serial number. I have yet to see one come matching the numbers on a kit.
I personally believe that number is just to reference the group, factory, or some other aspect to track manufacturing batches.

Just finished your video. Great information. Me and a buddy of mine picked up One of these each. All the parts on mine were matching except for the trunnion and my buddies had mismatched parts except for the bolt carrier, the bolt and the front trunnion
Right now I'm waiting on childers to ship my receiver so In the meanwhile I'm working on my early Germanic wheel lock pistol I'm building.

Just ordered a kit from Atlantic. Hoping to get as many actual NK parts as possible. Gonna have it built with a Childers receiver that has NK domestic markings. Couldn't bring myself to buy one of the assembled rifles with the SAR markings
You got lucky with that gas block sling retainer as most kits (as well as mine) cut the fangs off, and no one knows why.. also, if you're looking for an original type 68 ak, I would look up "willscary type 68" on TH-cam as he has shown a nice example of an actual domestic type 68 ak.

Right now, the go to for the barrel is Thor and while I am a huge Recreator fan the to for the receiver is Childers.

@@kelleys81 Hey, these kits are better than the ones we had in the mid-2000s too....none is always worse than 'well used' condition w/o barrel. Type 68 parts have always been rare in the USA.

I haven't unboxed mine yet. Thinking I might go with Korean marked receiver over the 1 and infinity. I like wood stocks better on the whole, but folders are still sweet
Whichever receiver markings y ou want. I will say these orignally either had the 1+infinity or SAR markings and not Korean.
Not much out there on the new “European” Colt AR15. Very interesting on how many parts are serialized, and in .223.
.223 chamber or just rollmarked .223? A lot of Euro guns have the civilian caliber on them because it is more politically aceptable there. For example, my old FNC had .223 on the receiver but 5.56 on the barrel itself.

The trigger slap on the ban era was intolerable....because Tapco didn't care about quality. The double sear like a Norinco/Poly Tech pre1989 Bush ban were the best. Anyone remember the 1500 HK416 upper receivers getting into into the civilian market via Hkpro guys. It was a PR hush hush and HK was pissed off. Only now a decade later they're started putting guns for sale in 🇺🇸 like the mp5 pistol.
Misha you wouldn't happen to know where one could find a krinkov (AK74U) parts kit, would you?
They really don’t exist in America. U can buy an Arsenal slr 104ur which is a Bulgarian factory built krinkov that really hasn’t come in for 10 years or more and they run about 6 grand and up Or u can buy an ak74 parts kit and buy front end components separately and have one made that way
@@icu_corey_rn_903they do exist. Mokas raifus had some krink kits a few months back and they definitely pop up on Ak files at times for ridiculous money
Keep an eye on the marketplace on Ak files. If you’re willing to pay 4K+ you can find one eventually. I’d suggest finding a 104ur for a little bit less though

There really isn’t any evidence of the Type 68 that is equipped with the underfolding stock being officially designated the “Type 68-1”. I have seen zero photos of a “Type 68-1” designation being stamped on any underfolding stock equipped Type 68s, meaning this term was likely created by Americans who associate NK guns with Chinese guns because they both use “Type” designations.
It is important to note that the underfolding stock equipped AKS produced in the DPRK is designated the Type 58, and the DPRK AK is also the Type 58.
These Type 68 kits Atlantic acquired appeared to possibly have come from Lebanon. Lebanese police used Type 68 underfolders, and these had “S A R” selector markings.

What type of finish was on the Korean rifles? Paint like a maadi, blued like Chinese?
I mention it a couple times during this video. It was a pretty matt type bluing. I couldn't find any accounts of paint or phosphating being used but...that isn't to say they didn't. We're sill learning about the Type 68.
Ive just got a gut feeling that the type 68-1 underfolder rear trunnion will fit on a romanian underfolder receiver

My Grandfather brought home a AK from the Korean War that has Korean markings on it with no western or Russian markings of any type.
It looks like a WASR 10 with out the dimpled receiver at the Mag well. The Gun is in Idaho and I am in San Diego or I would post pics but no one was any idea what it is other than a AK pattern rifle.
Any Ideas what the heck it is? It is a three position full auto and is registered as a bring back as he was up in rank enough to get it home but almost nothing can be found on it.
It looks like a Chinese early Norinco in some ways but it just does not have the standard mag dimples. Other than that ic could be a Norinco except for the markings which are definitely in Korean.
Korean War was 1950-1953. China didn't begin making AKs until 1956, and even then low rate production for the first few years. DPRK didn't begin until 1958, so.....

Is there a C&R rule on 50+ yr old barreled parts kits? I noticed APEX has Yugo milled M64 populated original barrel parts kits right now....How did they import those kits??????
No, parts kits are not firearms. So totally different rules.
Those parts kits had to have come in before the barrel ban
@@poopoo7705 Thing about the barrel ban toowas that it didn't shutdown existing/open import licenses. So if someone was in the middle of importing a big batch of kits, they could continue to have barrels until that current permit expired.

3rd party country. Same way those Chinese Type 56 SKSs came in from Albania and avoided the '94 sanctions.

@@6string42 Nope, country of origin can change if something is in a different one long enough. Exact number of years can vary depending on the type of firearm. Parts kits are less regulated since officially they are 'scrap' metal.

This Serbian export ban really sucks. The best option on the import market is pretty much gone overnight.
Michael, totally agree. The M70 is the Rockstar. It'll be interesting how this shakes out.

I had the chance to get an o-pap but I feel the new Z USA M70 is so nice, as in beefy parts with chrome lining, perfect also a zastaca trigger kit.
I only put 500 or so rounds though it, I have an old non Z USA M77
I had to leave the US for an extended period of time (over a year) feel lucky I got my FFL to save an Z M90 for me. A 5.56 AK with "18 barrel sweet.bkn n
@@luked2767 we will have to wait until the end of the 30 day period to see if the export ban is extended or not. In the meantime supply is already impacted. The M90s and M77s are already being listed as out of stock.

But anyone who knows AKs knew to get them when they first came out same with Chicom, cheap 40 dollar ak parts kits with barrel, mosins, Finnish mosins, yugo mausers 7.62x25, 7N6, 54r and to have always kept up good stocks of 7.62x39 and other calibers you use like 9mm and .223 in Russian steel case.
Saigas, Veprs and honestly the Zusa are some of the best AKs ever imported I don't see much different between my century M77 as its chrome lined 1.5 and a bulged trunnion.
But the M70 is a huge difference and the M90 is great as in rock and lock mags plus an 18" barrel I don't like 5.56 under that length.
I purchased 3 m70s as I knew they would go up and have 2 m90s to pickup when I get back from my FFL
I have quite a few preban Chicom spikes, mak90s, SARs quite alot of siagas when they first started coming in with dimples cheap of different calibers same with Veprs most are square backs with different calibers and barrel lengths.
I was lucky to get all the front end conversion parts from Russia before the fun time.
But the amount of guns and ammo my uncle and me have is just crazy he is an FFL but used to import firearms and ammo.
Even with all that ammo I'm converting steel case 7.62x39 cases with a modded decapper and I load it with a full charge and shoot cast bullets with homemade gas checks out of old cans that have been powder coated and resized.
If I collect the cases from one gun and reload it for that gun they last a very long time but I have to put a drop of loctite around the large mag rifle primers.
It's cheap shooting.
You could do it with 5.56 but you would have to paper patch it.
If the ammo problem never improved (forgive me father kalasknikov for my heresy)
But the cheapist way to shoot would be a 5.45 or 5.56 with a .300blk barrel and 5.56 mags.
The brass well you can get 5.56 and. 223 for free or very cheap, form it Into .300 and a full powder charge with a cast powder coat bullet would be cheap.
US made 7.62x39 will be .308 prices.
I hope psa pull though and can offer steel case ammo under 30 round.
It's just a sad time for any AK lovers as parts kits cost a fortune but the export ban would not last for very long unless another full blown war in the baltiks happened.
If it was a ban by the US then it would be bad.
We need someone in government to push to resume Chinese exports.
I have some ARs but I don't get much joy in shooting then and the fact you can get a high quality AR with a FNH CHF CL for a cheaper price than a wasr is insane but to make good AKs for a low price you need those huge factory's.
When I look at the guns I have and especially the ammo it really is one of the best financial investments you can make plus it's safe.
I do hope Ukraine wins and we can get all those parts kits.
Someone should really look into
1. The type 81 made in Bangladesh and the ammo.
2. Vietnamese AKs and the ammo.
And try to unban mild steel core as in 7n6 and chicom 7.62x39 as they overruled the ban of 5.56 green tip.
In 7.62x39 they do it just to save on lead.

As a former (but in remission) car guy, I have to say that there have always been cars that give the average car enthusiast pause. For example:
Cop cars and Hearses.
While there may be a certain cool factor for some, you just have to accept that dead people and criminals have spent more time in there than you. Bad vibes.
It's the same with certain firearms. How many starving and desperate North Koreans do you figure those parts have ended? There is a zero percent chance that those weapons were ever fired in anger for something as noble as national protection. I hear people comment on folks who buy FBI HRT builds because "that's the weapon of government raiders and agents of the state." Technically correct if a bit paranoid, but still something you have to accept if you're collecting/ larping.
Certainly, from the perspective of historicity and a more complete collection, this would be a very rare and difficult item to obtain however this is basically a horse pistol for Korean people, right? I'm curious how you look at this. Any collection of 'enemy' weapons large enough is eventually going to include something that was only ever used as an oppressive tool against non-combatants.
If nothing else, at least you've taken one out of the DPRK. A bit of a coup in and of itself. ✌
Believe it or not, i understand exactly what you mean. These though were contracted guns for export customers. So chances are they were built, shipped out of DPRK, and served elsewhere. I am sure the gov't traded them for resources of a different type that it desperately needed.

I get what you mean. Old Nazi guns have given me similar vibes whenever I've seen them up close. A lot of history there, most of it very bad. On a side note, a shop nearby me when I was growing up built a hearse drag car, and it was very cool.
