i have been on both and they are not in the same family. If on methadone, for example, you still must taper safely from benzodiazepines (no matter how you want to look at it, the discontinuation of benzos must be psychiatrically sound ) .
The agony of benzo withdrawal for those who really need it (panic disorder, agoraphobia) can result in Grand Mal seizures (there is more than decreased respiratory drive with seizures). Also, it can result in suicide.

It’s so refreshing to find a doctor who truly believes in harm reduction. Suboxone & benzo addiction are tricky but this doctor knows it’s better to be under a doctors care than left with no options. Especially for the patient who truly wants to get clean. ❤

The problem our society has is drug addiction is treated as a law enforcement problem instead of a mental health problem. And chronic pain is treated as addiction. I despise politicians, the lying media, and dea thugs.

I am on a methadone maintenance program but I am bipolar and have stressed induced seizures and I only asked my doctor if there is nothing helps when I go into panic and it last for days my doctor will call me in very few Valium. I have tried everything to help my attacks i go to counseling. I workout, I meditate, I also do stress relaxation techniques. I have tried every meditation to try to help with no luck is there anything else I could do besides the Valium. I feel guilty asking my doctor because I know its not good but nothing else works.

I can't pee so I can't get into my suboxone clinic. I told them it was easier to find people on the streets and continued to harm myself with Kratom until I found a phone app for suboxone
I would have been clean if tested
I had a false positive with a cotton swab test and have other proof where I passed clonazapam test even on probation. It said I was prescribed clonazapam and it says negative for benzos!

I just got myself off of methadone with suboxone I have to obtain let's say creatively because in my state there is no Dr willing to help me because I've taken 1mg clonazepam once a day for 15 years and that was with methadone!! If anyone was automatically going to die from those two I wouldn't be typing. It wasn't fun transitioning from methadone, nobody would help me and when I can't buy subs I just suffer because I know nobody cares. It's dark and stigmatized in alabama. I don't want to be on subs either but the withdrawal and likelihood of ending up where I started scares me to death. Loved your video. Wished there was a smart kind dr here,I'm sure they are smart, just telling me to get of the clonazepam then they would prescribe suboxone is insane. Benzo withdrawal in my opinion is 3 x as bad as opiates.

My doctor prescribed me suboxone to help produce dopamine so she said because I couldn't get out of bed i was so bad and I've had opiate problems in the past.. my anxiety, tremors, shakes, are still there from the benzos. I dont know what to do , I need advice dr b im desperate.

Very informative. I have a family member that has struggled for years with abusing pain meds and has been in treatment now for over a year using suboxone. Recently that family member told us they were prescribed Valium or Ativan to be taken daily with there suboxone , they take I think 2 strips of suboxone daily. Of course many family members thought those meds were absolutely not to be mixed or taken together and worried they were back sliding into drug use.. so glad to see n hear that it is actually treatment that can be used together and they weren’t lying to us.. it’s hard to believe when dealing with someone who has past of using and doing whatever to get money for there habit..

By the way, why do doctors never talk about the risk of seizures in abrupt discontinuation of benzos? It cannot be predicted when they will happen (behind the wheel of a car or in the shower , as an example).
Also, this means possible blunt force trauma to the head and theres a chance you may not come out of it alive anyway because your body (respiration and all goes haywire). Its a 50/50 chance of survival. They speak of it NEVER However, overdose is always a favorite topic. The impairment of benzo withdrawal is severe enough that if i knew my patient were distraught and in a state of panic and was about to get behind the wheel of a car,, i would not permit that to happen. In other words, the person who has been on benzos will drive perfectly brcause their brain is used ro them and is now dependent as well just to be normal. Without it, a tragedy waiting to happen.

Now Iam Desperately Going To Be Fighting For My Life Quitting Cold Turkey Both Suboxone & Benzo's.

This has been my struggle. Concurrent use of benzos 6 mg alprazolam and opioids; 6 mg suboxone daily. I’ve ran into so many suboxone doctors who say I can only choose one or the other. I can’t stop doing benzos abruptly, I tried. Didn’t work. Benzos are worse than opiates for the acute and post acute withdrawals. If given a choice id get off the suboxone. But discontinuing is a bad choice for me.

When I told my psychiatrist that I was on methadone, he immediately took away my Clonazepam and replaced it with bullshit-ass Buspirone and Hydroxyzine, which is a joke of a script for someone that suffers from a ton of anxiety. He asked me if the methadone clinic knew I was on benzos; I told him that they indeed knew and he got fucking pissed at them, mentioning that they were irresponsible and didn't give a shit about me.
I ended up putting myself in a mental health hospital to quit heroin and methadone. They put me on 800 mg Gabapentin 3x a day, and Clonidine (100 mg?), Lorazepam 1 mg 3x a day, and Seroquel 100 mg 2x a day for withdrawal symptoms alleviation.
I didn't get my Clonazepam back but at least they gave me Lorazepam. Not as good but much much better than the non-benzo alternatives for anxiety disorder treatment.

Thank you very much for making this video. I am a co-occurring patient who is now in recovery and prescribed suboxone (3 years now). Due to the nature of my mental health disorders and circumstances in my life that are very stressful to say the least, I am experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, and cravings are getting to become very common. I am also prescribed an ADHD stimulant. I am in need of an anxiety medication (that works), but don't know how to communicate this with my doctor. I asked him if I could try Lyrica (as a last resort before a benzodiazepine) and he actually lied to me saying that he could not prescribe it because it does not have a generic. Which I looked up and found out was a lie. I have been honest, and taking my medications correctly for 3 years (since they were prescribed), and he won't even have the conversation with me. I know how it looks being on these medications, but once you're on them as long as I have been I barely even notice I took anything. Cravings are getting really bad, and the stress is making it difficult to cope with them. I am trying to do good in life, but how can I succeed if I can't even manage my anxiety? Not to mention the long-term health complications from suffering from anxiety my whole life. I am 28 and have no top teeth due to my past (and I believe partially the suboxone)... I just got diagnosed with asthma and another mental health disorder. I want to go to college but I need to be able to cope with my anxiety. I'm also staying at a clean and sober house... I just found my first white hair, i'm scared to death all my hair will turn white from stress. I'm trying the medications he prescribed me but the side effects are too much or they don't work at all. Also drink herbal tea to no avail even extracts... I have been on benzodiazepines in the past and they worked for me, since then I have not found anything that has been able to help much. Anyways I appreciate you making this video. I wish more doctors were like you. Also forgot to say i'm trying to quit cannabis but having a really hard time and due to my lounges I have to quit smoking tobacco... My anxiety is terrible, and I haven't even quit yet.. I don't know if I even can, especially without my anxiety being treated effectively.

Suboxone helps mildly which is why it is taken as the mu receptors control your cough center and respiratory. Many other survivors are having severe lung issues some are getting cancers already all the local doctors are overlooking it

I feel compelled to respond. I am sorry for your health issues. But, what you are saying does not add up. 1. Your resp rate “dang low” from subs and benzos? That is just number 1. In addition, you would not know if it is going low?! If you did, you would increase it. Are you having someone watch you? Why do they not call 911? What is the count? And finally, what benzo, dose, and dose of subs? That’s just first question

I get precribed diazepam with dihydrocodenie in uk ,i used to get a high off it but now it just makes me feel so called normal ,doctors here dont like precribing benzos or opiods theres been quite a crack down ive noticed for especially the last 3 years i think diazepam is now precibed at 2mg 3 times a day as a general rule instead off 5mg tablets, doctors have tried to cut dihydrocodeine a couple off times and it never went well so am stuck on the dose that am on 8- 30mg digydrocodine per day ,dam i wish i never took them and never understood what opiod withdrawal is like until it was to late and then it was me going through opiod withdrawal, its unexplainable how debilitating withdrawal it is .its like god and the devil all in one pill ,please stay away from opiods and behzos if you can

I take 110mgs of methadone daily for 18years have only missed about 7 days of doses here and there among that time, I also have been using 2-4-mg of Xanax daily for about 3 years and have used them periodically for about 15 years for panic attack disorder and GED.
There are people who could walk into your office on 110mg methadone then take 4mgs Xanax or more and basically not have any effect and stand around and talk to you for 3 hours and wouldn’t even notice a difference.
I have almost done this same thing at my doctors office and do it in front of him just to prove I’m nowhere near od’ing and it can be safe, and he might wonder yeah but what about 12 hours later or when you go to sleep and I would be willing to stay all day just to prove to him that the tolerance is real and even after not taking Xanax for 2-3 months the tolerance is STILL there and I don’t know why. What do you think Dr. B ???

If a patient will take these meds the way they are suppose to there is no problem but now the way the system works against all Dr’s they won’t give these in most places !! Drs now days have a attitude against the patient taking these meds it just all screwed if you ask me !!!

I disagree. Benzos should be gradually reduced in dose and discontinued over a very long period of time. Treatment with non-dependency prone anti-anxiety medications should coincide. Patients are far more likely to overdose and die of opioid overdose when benzodiazepines are taken. The mechanism is understood to be hyperpolarization of excitatory neurons to prevent its life saving glutamine neurotransmission. The reflex for restore respiration is blunted in doind so. The argument that benzos should be prescribed for long term gain is dwarfed by the respiratory depression created. Patients prefer benzos over non-benzos for the same reason they abuse opioids-- dopamine surge and pleasure. If anxiolysis is truly the intent, non-benzos work just as well.

median lethal dose, LD50 is the scientific standard for how we measure our medications. The Dose is the Poison or the Danger…

Listen, this "o only give you pills for 5 days" statements gets me intensely furious. I'm tapering down for over a year know without going off my tapering plan. NOT EVEN ONCE. To say "oh you abused this substance for whatever amount of time and now you telling me that..." is so hurtful, lets people alone and ROBS them any kind of self-agency which is a crucial part. I was let down by five doctors before I eventually bought stash to the exact date my tapering ends. I had to. Because not even e single person believed me. Instead, they pulled out the same stigmatization standpoint you did. Who you guys think you are `? I don't want to even start about talking HOW LITTLE psychiatrist in Germany know about the topic at all and how insanely far away we are from actual science when it comes to Practice. Just imagine for a moment. You visit 5 reputable psychiatrist and realize after 15 minutes that you yourself were way deeper down the rabbit hole on how to taper correctly due to actual science. Ridiculous and slightly arrogant approach tbh, without wanting to offend anybody. Needed to get this off my chest.

      I Feel You!
Exactly 100% Right. Complete Waste Of Time To Even Go Visit Any Dr's At This Point For Me, I Still Hope I Can Find A Dr That Is Not Ignorant In This Medication Class.. If I Talk To One More Highly Trained Professional aka Specialists Dr That Says I Can Taper/Quit In Less Than 2 Weeks... Well I Dont Know What I'll End Up Saying This Time.
I Try To Remain Respectful But I Reaching A Point Of No Return With These Doc's & Their "Opinions"!!!!✌🏼

Heath ledger's death wasn't good time for opioids use with benzos and it cut off many people scripts. Since then it's hard time going any Dr to get any mix of either types. I say it's going harder going onwards. Rip heath ledger and he was going to several docs and had 3 benzos 4 opioids for one guy who addicted killed many people. I had a oxycodone and temazepam mix and it's very severely bad. He was on both those last night saw the story got me thinking.
