Tim. NamVet Jim here. 3tours. 67, 68, 69. 2nd tour during Tet. Heavy battle at the Ben Hai river. We made a landing there. The tracer bullets were non-stop for hours. Deafening heavy artillery. Damaged my hearing. Looking forward to catching up with you when Arlene, my filipina wife and I come back to visit our college kids at our Cebu condo.
Good job on the Vietnam run. It was intense to see some of my active locations. Better when half the country isn't trying to kill you. Still not sure I would risk a visit. I do not have a gentle history there. Try to help that Back Pack goof step up. He's a good kid, but...🙂

Much respect James. I have had a few mentors who were Vietnam Vets from the Long Beach VA. Glad you made it home and raised a family. You are always welcome at the K house in Southern Leyte if you are in the area. Because of you, I was treated much better coming home from Iraq.

James as Vet, thank you, much respect and being stationed overseas 9 out 16 q/2 years I feel more comfortable in Asia the America, the US is a war waiting to happening! Similar to Vietnam but for different ideals

Thanks Tom. You're a good man. I never miss an episode. I wear a Vietnam hat to find my brothers. Just like my WW2 DAD, we are becoming rare. I'm 75 in March and still drive a big rig to support my college crew. After I succeeded in getting Arlene here to the USA, the condo became a dorm. I even moved our nephew from Leyte there to finish high school, and I'm encouraging him to become a crypto/computer tech. On my dime, of course. Changing the direction of this amazing family is an awesome adventure. Careful Tom. Dale is growing up soooo fast! Good on you and Krissy.

I’m loving this trip with all of you!! When I first went to Vietnam I thought the people would hate us for what we did and may have deserved. I was amazed at how nice and wonderful they were to me as an American. Beautiful people but as we’ve learned don’t piss them off.

The motorbike packing is pure US Army style. Dan Rather lives! Great narrative Tim of the 1968 Tet offensive. I missed the draft for the military by 1 year. But I have vivid memories of watching the horrors of the Vietnam war on TV every night. I lost friends, my friends lost brothers, we all felt the anguish of the war here. This Vietnam series is amazing! Thank you

Fantastic work, the locals are so hospitable, from North to South. In Da Nang, I would go to random neighborhoods and they offered photos with me (2016). The generations lost in misfortune is unfathomable and spirits are still kept high 40 years later.

Hello, Vietnamese here, 17:08 the quote means "The south (is) in my heart". Oh, a tip for you heading to the south: the weather might get wetter and colder between Huế and Đà Nẵng, so be ready for some rain near the mountain range between those two cities. I'm really enjoying the Vietnam series! Keep it up and wish you all the best on your journey. Form Hà Nội with love.

I'm always amazed to see that Vietnamese people today don't seem to hold any sort of grudge against America for what happened, and they're still paying the price of it today with many Vietnamese babies still born with malformations and diseases linked to the countless amounts of toxic herbicide dropped onto their country from 1961 to 71. It's incredible that they have managed to go forth, not to forget but to forgive, where other people seem to hold an eternal grudge for past events that date back centuries.
