I love how you take the games "fun factor" into account instead of just judging the more negligible elements like less then fantastic tex quality. I play games for fun, not to gawk at how real virtual rocks look. I know that quality graphics help with immersion but it doesn't take much for me at least to get completely sucked into a game if it's enjoyable to play.
Couldn't agree with you more mate. I can't stand reading over the comments in some videos, people complaining that the rocks in the distance don't have a 1080p shadow or something ridiculous like that.
I've been getting really deep into this game lately and I must say, i'm in love with the graphics and the sound. Walking around and exploring new locations, inspecting nature and listening to nature is genuinely relaxing
Myles Newman Games shouldn't be released in a broken state to begin with. The Industries apparent new ethos of "f#ck it - we'll patch it after release" is horrible and needs to stop. At least this games seems pretty stable on the whole.
Ever consider that they did not have enough time? Would you rather a game be delayed half way to hell, eventually get overhyped by the target community and end up like Watch Dogs to iron out bugs and such (a lot of which were fixed and can still be fixed by patches)? Aside from the game not needing to be patched, a patch can show that developers are still putting time in the game, and still working on it. Not the whole "it's out there now lets forget about it" deal like some games.
Myles Newman You have a point, but at the sime time, would you like to buy a brand new car and have to get it fixed every month? No. they charge us $60 and spend millions to make the game, only to extenuate. Is that not what testing is for? If the problem is so simple it can be patched, why didn't they patch it in before release?

I always thought it would have been cool if you had to kill one of the Golden Path leaders....and then found out you were tricked into your decision by Pagan, and killed the wrong one....learning that the other was working for Pagan all along.
Also you can get a chopper pretty early in the game which allows you to travel very fast. This thing is also usefull during fortress attacks where one is rising hell on the ground and the other let it rain grenades from the air.

I found what you said about the main protagonist being quiet pretty interesting. I think having the absence of voice sort of allows the player more to fill in more gaps about the main character. Since he doesn't say much we give him personality from ourselves a bit more creating something more immersive.

It really bums me how Ubisoft has been doing this a bit more frequently with their prime villains. The script is great, they hire some top notch actors, it's almost a crime knowing that their screen time is short lived. :( I will say though knowing this game introduces some lesser seen guns is a VERY satisfying thing in my book. That Webely has to be my all time favorite revolver mainly thanks to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Despite my criticisms you know what, you're on the right track. We, reviews AND gamers a like tend to forget there is a fun factor which is seemingly lost as of today when we analyze games. Thanks for pointing it out more and more in your reviews as of late. Even with the massive controversies regarding Ubisoft's "anti-consumer" methods as of late, that doesn't necessarily mean their games aren't fun in the end. I sympathize for disgruntled gamers but sometimes people view things too objectively. So, again, thank you for bringing the ideologies of why we game back into your reviews, especially this one.
Great Review. I'm kind of a sucker for this series. The gun issues won't bother me as I played FC3 98% with the bow. How frequent are the flying machines? (i.e. Can you reliably find one fairly quick if you want?)
Most disappointing thing about this game is that there is no weather system. No rain, thunder and lightning. It really takes away from the experience, not knowing when the rain is coming. The sound and experience of it all. I thought FC4 was going to have the most polished weather system of the previous games. Oh well as I keep saying with each game maybe the next one. Ubisoft must not know how to create weather in games, because The Crew does not have any either. FC2 and 3 had rain, thunder, and lightning even though it was not that good, at least it had something...

AngryCentaurGaming Have you played the PC version ? So far it has been shit. Playing at custom settings (Most settings at ultra and some settings at high) and it looks not even remotely different from Far Cry 3. Hell, there is no option to adjust FOV. Oh and it has terrible mouse support so I used a controller (Strangely, it felt perfect...guess it was optimized for that, unlike Far Cry 3.) But guess what, when you play using the controller, the game's map breaks with lot of areas not loaded and NPCs freeze. I was running around while Pagan's security guards just stood there doing nothing. Ubisoft has done it again!!

This guy and Angry Joe do straight up non biased reviews. They really know how to capture the audience when it comes to wanting to know about the game rather than a "forced" felt review by IGN/Gamespot. Will be ordering this on PC. Anyone know if the PC game releases midnight GMT? When do Ubisoft usually unlock on Uplay (during release) Steam is always slow.
I find it annoying sometimes because the NPCs always send you all alone invading/infiltrating a highly guarded place. I can't feel the importance of the mission because they weren't there to help you. They just send you like it's a suicide mission. And everything feels like your responsibility, you do this, you do that, and it doesn't look like the NPCs did any work at all! They're just voices in the game. And that's what bothers me in the game.
Just finishing up FC3 for the 360, long but very enjoyable except when my wife just so happened to be watching me defeat the crazy tribal Demon smoke god and then get rode bareback by Citra,,,,,,I had no idea that was going to happen!! Figured I would see if FC4 would be worth getting into, good review.

Hmm, the skill system is kind of bullshit and arbitrary(have to get a skill to actually reload while running???), and the :whole lot of stuff to do" is pretty spurious as well. You take one thing and copy paste it like 50 different times with no real change ups. Your first 5 hours marks how you'll be playing for the rest of the game, and it also is pretty much what you'll be seeing in terms of locations and enemies as well. The weapon selection is nice, until you realise how broken a certain 2 weapons are and once you have them, you just need a sniper and another gun of your choice and you'll be rolling over everything.
Fighting malaria, bullet sponges know as enemies, vehicles that broke down after three shots, self populating checkpoints that spawned every 10 seconds, and AI that could see in every light spectrum, was tons of fun!
I rarely take the time to comment on anything but I just have to say your reviews are amazing. Your choice of vocabulary is splendid but never incomprehensible. Your rating system is simplified and answers the real question that concerns viewers. On top of that, you manage to genuinely make me laugh at your metaphors and comedic relief which is something IGN and gamespot could never hope to accomplish. You got a natural talent for this my friend. As long as you review new games I hereby wash my hands of those shameful review channels and pledge subscriber loyalty to you.
i honestly dont know why ign raters play games they seem to hate them all except for cod, still even after watching this great review im so stumped on getting this, Although i absolutely loved far cry 3s story the gameplay was just too repetative for me and it took me a year to finish the game, i dont want to see a repeat of that boardom.

AngryCentaur, quick question, can you go a little more indepth on the issue of graphics? Judging from the gameplay, Im not totally convinced, because I did notice quite a bit of screen tear and what not. From what I remember, Far Cry 3 looked amazing on the 360. Does it surpass Far Cry 3 graphically?
Mr Centaur. Can I make a suggestion? I like the way you clearly segment the review and address different areas but one area that most reviews, including yourself, don't seem to cover is difficulty. I've been playing games for 20 years. One of my biggest gripes with a lot of newer games is they are too easy. I had to refrain from choosing the extra health perks in Far Cry 3 and even then, it wasn't that difficult. I've seen some younger dudes playing games and they're happy to just run in, die, run in, die, run in, die. Over and over until they succeed. But if you're actually trying you best to not die, taking your time etc, Far Cry 3 was a bit too easy to be honest. How about this game?
Some game's graphics are detailed but unimpressive, and some were limited by available technology, and yet more memorable memorable due to smart art design. I'll take graphucs similar to splinter cell, theif 2, deus ex, or even the simplistic style of Daggerfall over the sensory overload found in so many newer games.

I am thinking of getting this for 360, but fc3 was a little annoying with the inconsistent frame rate, as well as the slightly annoying graphical problems. Does fc4 have better all around graphics and does it run smoother? thanks!

2 questions: 1)In the UK , the game costs £50 which is about $75/$80. Is that still worth a buy or shall i wait for a bit? 2) If the game is set in the himalayas, is Mount Everest there and if so, can you climb it? Also, another great review that came out really quickly. Keep up the damn good work
After dumping so many hours in to Far Cry 3, and playing other open world ubisoft games, i found this game excruciatingly formulaic to the point where the sense of exploration or change was non existent and it completely destroyed the vibe and fun factor for me. The tedium and repetitiveness was just too much. I found the environment and setting to be uninteresting as well. So far, from what I have seen, Far Cry 5 seems to have broke this trend. Cannot wait for your review. Either way, excellent review. cheers
Karak, which location did you prefer out of this mountainy one and the Far Cry 3 tropical island one? The layout in this looks more interesting to me than the previous one, but i'm just wondering how fun it is when hunting and killing people compared to 3.

Loved the review! I usually went to AngryJoe or a few random YTubers but they were always long winded with 20 min.+ videos. You make the best use of the time and cover a lot of ground in such a short time. I'll probably pass on Far Cry 4...I don't know what it is but I'm just not as excited for it as I was Far Cry 3. I'll play it eventually but not right away.
Good review as always but did you actually play it at all on ps4/xbone? You barely cover the differences graphically between them beyond stating some obvious givens such as increased draw distance. The footage seems entirely of the 360 version, I find it odd that you would play thru on 360 if a ps4/xbone version was on tap as well.
AngryCentaurGaming fair call mate. Well the game looks spectacular and as a huge fan of far cry 3 I'm definitely gonna snap this up. My biggest dilemma is whether to go PC route again or play it on the ps4.....I'm leaning towards the ps4 simply for the big screen TV and couch lol.

Despite my criticisms you know what, you're on the right track. We, reviews AND gamers a like tend to forget there is a fun factor which is seemingly lost as of today when we analyze games.
Thanks for pointing it out more and more in your reviews as of late. Even with the massive controversies regarding Ubisoft's "anti-consumer" methods as of late, that doesn't necessarily mean their games aren't fun in the end.
I sympathize for disgruntled gamers but sometimes people view things too objectively. So, again, thank you for bringing the ideologies of why we game back into your reviews, especially this one.

Great Review. I'm kind of a sucker for this series. The gun issues won't bother me as I played FC3 98% with the bow. How frequent are the flying machines? (i.e. Can you reliably find one fairly quick if you want?)

Most disappointing thing about this game is that there is no weather system. No rain, thunder and lightning. It really takes away from the experience, not knowing when the rain is coming. The sound and experience of it all. I thought FC4 was going to have the most polished weather system of the previous games. Oh well as I keep saying with each game maybe the next one. Ubisoft must not know how to create weather in games, because The Crew does not have any either. FC2 and 3 had rain, thunder, and lightning even though it was not that good, at least it had something...

Darth Vader walked down a hallway for less than two minutes but that was actually the best part of that particular Star Wars movie.
Nice review, BTW why the fuck do they always limit the interactions with the coolest bad guys, In Far Cry 3, Vaas wasnt in the game enough and in this game, it seems to be the same with Pagan Min, come the fuck on Ubisoft, let us enjoy the bad guys you've created

AngryCentaurGaming Have you played the PC version ? So far it has been shit. Playing at custom settings (Most settings at ultra and some settings at high) and it looks not even remotely different from Far Cry 3. Hell, there is no option to adjust FOV. Oh and it has terrible mouse support so I used a controller (Strangely, it felt perfect...guess it was optimized for that, unlike Far Cry 3.) But guess what, when you play using the controller, the game's map breaks with lot of areas not loaded and NPCs freeze. I was running around while Pagan's security guards just stood there doing nothing. Ubisoft has done it again!!

This guy and Angry Joe do straight up non biased reviews. They really know how to capture the audience when it comes to wanting to know about the game rather than a "forced" felt review by IGN/Gamespot. Will be ordering this on PC. Anyone know if the PC game releases midnight GMT? When do Ubisoft usually unlock on Uplay (during release) Steam is always slow.
I find it annoying sometimes because the NPCs always send you all alone invading/infiltrating a highly guarded place. I can't feel the importance of the mission because they weren't there to help you. They just send you like it's a suicide mission. And everything feels like your responsibility, you do this, you do that, and it doesn't look like the NPCs did any work at all! They're just voices in the game. And that's what bothers me in the game.
Just finishing up FC3 for the 360, long but very enjoyable except when my wife just so happened to be watching me defeat the crazy tribal Demon smoke god and then get rode bareback by Citra,,,,,,I had no idea that was going to happen!! Figured I would see if FC4 would be worth getting into, good review.
I bought the game for 10 pounds looks like a bargain to me.

Hmm, the skill system is kind of bullshit and arbitrary(have to get a skill to actually reload while running???), and the :whole lot of stuff to do" is pretty spurious as well. You take one thing and copy paste it like 50 different times with no real change ups. Your first 5 hours marks how you'll be playing for the rest of the game, and it also is pretty much what you'll be seeing in terms of locations and enemies as well. The weapon selection is nice, until you realise how broken a certain 2 weapons are and once you have them, you just need a sniper and another gun of your choice and you'll be rolling over everything.

Fighting malaria, bullet sponges know as enemies, vehicles that broke down after three shots, self populating checkpoints that spawned every 10 seconds, and AI that could see in every light spectrum, was tons of fun!
More reviews than Angry Joe, and more in depth without being bloated. This guy's channel is awesome

I rarely take the time to comment on anything but I just have to say your reviews are amazing. Your choice of vocabulary is splendid but never incomprehensible. Your rating system is simplified and answers the real question that concerns viewers. On top of that, you manage to genuinely make me laugh at your metaphors and comedic relief which is something IGN and gamespot could never hope to accomplish. You got a natural talent for this my friend. As long as you review new games I hereby wash my hands of those shameful review channels and pledge subscriber loyalty to you.
Also I swear if they handled Pagan Min the way they 'handled' Vaas i'm going to be so pissed off.

still even after watching this great review im so stumped on getting this, Although i absolutely loved far cry 3s story the gameplay was just too repetative for me and it took me a year to finish the game, i dont want to see a repeat of that boardom.

Judging from the gameplay, Im not totally convinced, because I did notice quite a bit of screen tear and what not. From what I remember, Far Cry 3 looked amazing on the 360. Does it surpass Far Cry 3 graphically?

Mr Centaur. Can I make a suggestion? I like the way you clearly segment the review and address different areas but one area that most reviews, including yourself, don't seem to cover is difficulty. I've been playing games for 20 years. One of my biggest gripes with a lot of newer games is they are too easy. I had to refrain from choosing the extra health perks in Far Cry 3 and even then, it wasn't that difficult. I've seen some younger dudes playing games and they're happy to just run in, die, run in, die, run in, die. Over and over until they succeed. But if you're actually trying you best to not die, taking your time etc, Far Cry 3 was a bit too easy to be honest. How about this game?

Some game's graphics are detailed but unimpressive, and some were limited by available technology, and yet more memorable memorable due to smart art design.
I'll take graphucs similar to splinter cell, theif 2, deus ex, or even the simplistic style of Daggerfall over the sensory overload found in so many newer games.
I can't wait till this channel blows up, and everybody comes here for the best game reviews!

Jesus probably wasn't real either.
After dumping so many hours in to Far Cry 3, and playing other open world ubisoft games, i found this game excruciatingly formulaic to the point where the sense of exploration or change was non existent and it completely destroyed the vibe and fun factor for me. The tedium and repetitiveness was just too much. I found the environment and setting to be uninteresting as well. So far, from what I have seen, Far Cry 5 seems to have broke this trend. Cannot wait for your review. Either way, excellent review.

So with FC5 out and having never played any of the FC games, should I get FC4 for $20 and wait for FC5 to go on sale or does not having ever played FC make FC5 a no brainer (I.e. is the only thing wrong with 5 the fact that it’s so similar to previous FC games)?
J C maybe I’m to late but Far Cry 3 is by far the best in the series. After finishing it I couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks and it became one of my favorite games of all time. Angry joe did a very good review on in, if you want someone with a more professional opinion

Loved the review! I usually went to AngryJoe or a few random YTubers but they were always long winded with 20 min.+ videos. You make the best use of the time and cover a lot of ground in such a short time.
I'll probably pass on Far Cry 4...I don't know what it is but I'm just not as excited for it as I was Far Cry 3. I'll play it eventually but not right away.

Good review as always but did you actually play it at all on ps4/xbone? You barely cover the differences graphically between them beyond stating some obvious givens such as increased draw distance. The footage seems entirely of the 360 version, I find it odd that you would play thru on 360 if a ps4/xbone version was on tap as well.

AngryCentaurGaming fair call mate. Well the game looks spectacular and as a huge fan of far cry 3 I'm definitely gonna snap this up. My biggest dilemma is whether to go PC route again or play it on the ps4.....I'm leaning towards the ps4 simply for the big screen TV and couch lol.
