What happened to the Ford F-150 Lightning? Why aren’t they selling?

  • Why can’t Ford sell their F150 Lightning? I’m seeing lots of these just collecting dust on dealership lots. Nobody is buying these EV Ford Lightnings. I wonder why? Personally I wouldn’t buy an EV truck but I remember there was quite the buzz around these new trucks are they were coming out. I mean, lots of excitement. What happened to that? Are they not selling well across the US?
What do you think of the 2023-2024 Ford F150 Lightning? Would you choose it over for the Tesla Cybertruck or Rivian?
    Thanks for watching as always.

Best parts are the frunk, extra closed locked storage, being able to just charge at home and no longer needing to stop at gas station, way less maintenance, rides way smoother than my old F-150 and being able to power my home when the power goes out is sweet.

Supply caught up to demand, people aren't paying $20k over MSRP for gasoline vehicles either, does that mean people don't want gasoline cars either? With a recession looming and high interest rates, it's not surprising ALL vehicles aren't seeing the same demands as last year.

Overall, I went EV in mid 2020 when gas was cheap and nobody wanted one. after 3 years of not having to deal with gas-based vehicles I really just have no interest going back. I do want a truck again, but the only full EV pickups on the market in the US at least are all over 70k and full size. I think if any manufacturer can get an EV pickup with onboard power and 300+ miles range for under 50k new, they'd start selling again. dealerships with their nonsense "market adjustments" only make everything else harder, and they're not really as incentivized to sell EVs in general since the routine maintenance is functionally non existent compared to ICE vehicles.

Non expert opinion here but the reason why I believe ev's aren't selling the way some people thought they would is because of a few various reasons. For starters EV's right now BENEFIT a niche group of people, you have to have really good access to a variety of dependable, fast, and reliable charging stations and preferably a home charger. Secondly you have to be able to afford an EV which they are not cheap and the quality of these vehicles are a mixed bag which is bad at these prices IMO. You can do travel trips but it can be very frustrating if you plan incorrectly or something goes wrong because of the lack of charging stations in certain areas which leads to a delayed trip. And to top it all off the push for EV's is pissing a lot of people off for various reasons but a few are people that are big fans of certain vehicles or have a family history with them are having to accept them being forcibly changed into something completely different and may end up ruining the brand for them entirely.

Range is bad and also it looks just like a normal F150 which used to be a selling point but it seems people who buy electric trucks want to stand out that’s why the GMC Hummer sold pretty well and why initially there was all those mark ups on them for resale And then also the cybertruck is coming out, so why not buy that and make it look like you’re driving a spaceship. Since it seems the people who buy electric trucks want it as a status symbol and an F150 lightning doesn’t do that. That is my guess though.

Countless channels reporting how it couldn't really do "truck" things as well as modern naturally aspirated truck could. With an $80k price tag that doesn't help very much either since the people who buy fords with that money want something.....well with a more typical engine.

Ford F-150s are solid pickup trucks. They’re built for a multitude of purposes. As to the F-150 Lightning, I think it has potential and with a range of over 200 miles(on some models, over 300 miles on others)a drive from Miami to Las Vegas won’t take too long. But I may be wrong here. Honestly, I would spend the extra money on a premium model (if I had the money, of course) and drive it to work everyday. A longer trip will require planning(charging). I guess I would get a large old school window bed cover for carrying large loads.

All drains those batteries. This leads to range anxiety.
Plus the electricity has to be generated somewhere so the carbon footprint is debatable.
I feel the motor industry has shot itself in the foot by jumping headlong into E/V’s and SUV’s!!!! Build vehicles with small clean diesel engines. It should not all be about BHP.

It intrigues me because it is so much like the ICE vehicle. The gimmicks and funky, spaceship designs are turn offs for many people. The F150 doesn't have that anywhere near as much.
The reason I'm not buying one is that price. I also think battery tech needs improvements in both size and range. I heard something today that EV tires wear out much faster than ICE vehicles because of the weight, on top of the tires also being much more expensive.

So you’re honestly all over the place. I live in California and we get subsidy for purchasing. Compared to a truck of similar size it’s half the cost to run and no oil changes. I understand it’s easy but 0 routine maintenance means it’s ready to go more than it’s not.
It’s clear you never owned an EV so your ignorance is why you don’t understand. Now the brass tax. It’s simple, it people can’t afford something they cannot buy it.
Dealerships are you mentioned are snakes. It’s why Ford would like to do direct to consumer. Also America runs on credit. I shouldn’t be shocked but I am shocked that an increase to 8 APR would halt most economic activity. That makes a car that sells at 80k before fees a mortgage payment for some.
And lastly most Americans lost their job.

You can’t tow 💩. The range drops off a cliff and Electrify America charging stations are always broken and the free charging owners get doesn’t always work. I had a Tesla Model Y to drive Uber/Lyft and I was spending more to charge each week than I did to put Diesel in my BMW 328d sedan and only made $300/wk more with the Tesla while spending $60 more in charging, plus since I didn’t have a home charger I was spending up to 3 hours waiting to charge and charging (2hr wait to get a charger when 3/4 are broken)

I own one and it's a fantastic truck. I think there are several issues.
    1. Price. Battery tech is expensive and there is a significantly cheaper gas alternative.
    2. Use case. It has a weird use case. I live in a city and it is a phenomenal commuting and weekend truck. If you commute more than 100 miles each way, I wouldn't recommend this for you.
If you're buying this for use to do trucking things, it's great with payload and HORRID for towing long distances. It can do trucking stuff in city and close-in suburbs well.
    3. Cold weather. People just aren't ready when their range drops by 20-30% in the winter months.
    4. Fast-charging infrastructure. It just isn't ready for prime time yet in the middle of the country- which is where most fans of pickups reside.
You can fit about 90% of the reluctance for the EV pickups in these categories. If you know what you're getting into- and can afford the truck- it's an amazing vehicle. Best I've ever owned.

Most people buy a truck for towing, and this truck was strictly designed for consumers. At the high price point, they are now stuck between the pro and the consumer!
The extended battery only gets a 320 range new, figure 5% less 10 years down the road (or less) as soon as you plug in a trailer, it drops down to half the range...it's a huge disappointment for such a truck...
The replacement battery currently runs for 30k installed...WTF

Their not selling now because of ford raised the prices 20k on base model, dealer markups and charging network. It was supposed to be 40k truck, and they raised price to 60k on base model.

I'm sure the batteries will cost more than the vehicle itself down the years. So, now you have a vehicle that is inoperable and unable to sell. So much for trying to save money all those years. This is a money pit that will cost you more down the road. I agree with this guy, I would rather buy a diesel or V8 aspirated engine. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

It's not just EVs that there are lots of vehicles on the lots. If you need range and don't have a place to charge nightly, you should stick with diesel and gas. Don't look at the fuel savings over the life as you can afford to keep paying daily for fossil. I for one was.not sure at the beginning about EV but now with the power, torque and ownership savings don't see why anyone would go back to ice. But if you have not driven an EV at least make judgement after driving one.

Had mine since July 22 and it’s hands down the vehicle I’ve ever owned. Notice how many owners say the same and how many who criticize it have never lived with it. It does everything that 80% of truck owners would need and it does it better. The vast majority of truck owners don’t need it for towing more than 100 miles and don’t need it to go more than 300 miles in a day. For those who need that, a gas truck is still the way.

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@darrinseelye2091 It's so "bad ass" that you bought one right? I'm betting you didn't. Ford has been building EVs for a very short time and is LOSING money on EVERY SINGLE ONE they build. This truck just came out and you have no idea what its reliability will be. Not impressed by any Ford EV yet but they just started and are learning from what Tesla has already done. Elon allowing competitors to charge at their Superchargers shows how generous Elon is but this will definitely impact the experience for Tesla owners. They will be waiting for EVs with slower charging rates to finish charging. I charge in my garage so I won't be affected unless on a road trip. Money from others using the charging network will help the stock go higher so thats good for us share holders.
