    Hey guys, honestly I love your videos. I've been around since the long long ago chad vader days and you always seem to just make videos (beer and board games, rated rpg, etc) that YOU want to make and I've always enjoyed it. You are like my friendly family on youtube and I appreciate you for it. Long days, pleasant nights, and much love.

    Aha! The Dutch Girl was singing: "Sinterklaas kapoentje, gooi wat in mijn schoentje." Literally translated: Santa Claus kapoentje, throw something in my shoe. It's Dutch tradition that Sinterklaas comes to the Netherlands and the children can lay their shoe beside the fireplace. The next morning the shoe will be filled with presents and candy. fun fact: kapoentje actually means castrated turkey.

    Having been a cartoonist in Boston in the 1980's and 1990's, I can attest a lot of that suicide "humor" was just to underline two things: 1) The intensity of the hopelessness of a situation to add drama, 2) The cartoonist likely is feeling despair as the cartoon itself is an outlet. Consider very early Charles Shultz comics where Charlie Brown is depicted as a cartoonist himself and mutters he wants to commit suicide. Not quite "humor" as "drama" and an "outlet" for the artist himself. The outlet actually is drawn and the need to do so is "exorcised" from the artist that way.

      FLHBR although they share a similar name and (thanks to coca cola) look alike, they quite a different origin story. Santa being based in peagan tradition and Sinterklaas having strong Catholic roots.

    @BlameSociety - "get back to work Chinaski" - I got drunk with Chuck Bukowski's wife one night in 1980 in West Hollywood. I think her name is (was?) Linda. I had just finished reading Hollywood (the novel) and I laughed myself silly. Linda got Charles off the hard booze and into fine wine in the last few years of his life. Check out Robert Crumb's portraits of Bukowski. Good show.

  • @OfficialChrissums
    @OfficialChrissums 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I think suicide is funny as a concept because it is an example of the classic "comedy is about defying expectations" thing. The expectation is that people want to live. It is also an expectation that morbid things are not to be played for laughs. However, the combination of someone defying the expectation that they want to live creates a joke, and that joke being morbid further defies expectations, and having met those two criteria, creates comedy.
