    my sb910, a seldom used flash just died with no warning, Nikon wants $ 200.00 to fix it. I will try to find a Godox to replace it.

    I got my first TT685ii recently. Comparing with my SB800, the color temps are very close. TT685ii is about 2 stops more powerful. A bit of disappointment is that the TT685ii is about 2/3 under exposed consistently in TTL mode compared with my SB800. Dial up the FEC to +0.7 will correct the flash exposure. Did you experience under exposed image in TTL with the Godox flash?

    Great video! Is the exact same power cable used to go from the external pack to each flash? Or does each flash have a different external power connection port thereby requiring a different connector at the end of the cable?

    great video! i like godox products and recently bought their pb960 power pack. question: when one uses godox speedlights with the godox pb960 pack, there is no need for other batteries to power the speedlight? when i use my nikon speedlight with the godox pb960, i still need to install batteries to the nikon speedlight for the speedlight electronics. when using godox speedlight and the godox pb960, do you need to install batteries in the speedlight or can you use power from the godox pb960?

    How accurate is the i-TTL with Godox TT685n compared to the Nikon SB910. I had the Yongnuo YN568EX and i-TTL was off by anywhere between 1-2.5 stops with no consistency of how off it was going to be, either on camera, off camera with yongnuo ttl triggers or corded cable.

    • @emotivephotographytraining4862
      @emotivephotographytraining4862  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Martin, Does the TT685 TTL wander, yes it does, but one of the reasons i was dissatisfied with the Nikon SB910 was the TTL wanders. The question on what causes the issues is bigger than first look.The camera takes the information from TTL and requests a setting, the flash then interprets that and fires the flash, Its possible its a mix of two issues. This is my understanding of how it works.
      1. TTL is only a guess by the camera and is influenced by exposure metering mode etc (spot metering, scene etc).
      2. Interperation of the info by the flash. All flash have diffferent powers etc, they have to translate to match there equipment specs.
      I can't tell you which is worse the Nikon or the Godox on my own set up but it gives me a idea for a future video!
      Great question Martin!

    • @martingemmell3089
      @martingemmell3089 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was asking only because I was thinking about getting its big brother the AD200 that has ttl, but if ttl is hit and miss affair, I will stick with my all manual setup of the TT600 and the AD180 with the 2 in1 cord.
      Personally I think the Godox X1 system is the best all round value on the market today, now if they could only integrate it with a light meter-------

    The Godox X1 will not work as a wireless shutter release with flash... the flash fires and then the shutter opens, leaving a black frame.

    910 has strobo mode, which can be used for complex lighting. And you can use Nikon CLS system without any other triggers etc. That's why you pay more.. 3rd party flash system were always around. Godox is just one of them.
    I had so many issues with godox triggers and flash system not being consistent.

The Triggers activate and then the camera shutter rolls, trouble is the flash is premature ... do you know how to solve this? And do you know how to trigger my Bowens packs and heads using the X1,R and X1,T triggers... They work on Godox, but nothing else it seems????? Advise is welcome

    Multi Nikon speedlight user here ( SB910, SB900, SB700, SB600 and SB80DX lol ) and likewise have been triggering with pocket wizards. However once I invested in Godox's AD600 I've been a convert to their system too. Full wireless control is a boon and way better than Nikon's outdated CLS system. I'll be adding at least one AD200 and a Godox speedlight to give me a full Godox system, no more Nikon speedlights for me going forward. 😀

      It all a matter of opinion. Do they work Yes, are they as robust as Nikon No. I have had a TT685 snap at the foot, but i have had Nikon flash fail electronics. At the price , it works for me especially for the off camera work. I can buy several TT685 for the price of a Nikon flash. It is personal choice and my choice is to use both Nikon and Godox for different scenarios.

    The full output of the flashes aren't the same to compare the recycling time. I suppose it's about one stop difference or more.

It's show me M1/1 on the screen but flash isn't have actually power, it like M1/4 of full power of SB-910. It's picture of issue static.hypercomments.com/data/images2/guest/1502212703947887

      LivanAlex - (I am a multi SB-910/PW-Flex5/SD-9 user and yes, at 9 speedlights that is a lot of money.) The problem is with the Guide Number (Gn - real light output) specification between different vendors. Whilst Nikon is very honest by specifying Gn at the angle of a 35mm full-frame wide angle lens, most of the cheap ones specify at 200mm, 105mm, or 85mm focal length. With that angle on the flash, the light is more concentrated on a smaller area. If you calculate the width and height at (say) 4 meter of the 35mm area and compare to the 200mm, the difference in area compares to about 5 F-stops. This is to say that the incredibly high Gn of the cheaper flashes at 200mm angle is misleading. And testing without taking this into account is misleading too. Guide number being the multiplication of correct exposure at a distance with the matching aperture (F-stop) at a certain ISO, has two incarnations, one related to distance in feet and one to distance in meters. The electric energy put into the flash tube by the SB-910 I would rate at 75 Ws (Watt.seconds or Joules) in comparison with serious studio flashes. My theoretical calculation of Guide Numbers with the cheaper flashes comes to a much lower number (1/3) for most of the cheaper ones. This would explain why these do not get hot and may recycle a bit faster. I use two SB-910s in a large softbox and have run into a situation where the AC-3 controller on the PW FlexTT5 could not go low enough for correct exposure and I had to switch to i-TTL. With the external battery pack at full power I get recycle times that are fast enough for a model-directed shoot but i generally do the photographer directed approach which takes a lot less pictures per hour. A Guide Number (feet, ISO 100) of 220 at the comparable angle of a 200mm lens could give you F-stop 11 at 20 feet distance. If the difference at the angle of a 35mm lens is 5 F-stops worse, then you get F/2 at the same distance, or a Gn of 40. Mind you, Gn directly relates to exposure or light output, whilst Ws or J only relate to electrical energy and are almost meaningless to exposure as they take the efficiency of the flash front end out of the equation. Brands Profoto and broncolor will specify guide numbers for their studio flash kit for specific reflectors as an example. By the way, a 1200 Ws studio flash is only 4 F-stops more powerful than a 75 Ws speedlight if it had equally efficient light output, however you need 16 SB-910 to get to that amount of Ws. Is the speedlight approach without issues? No, certainly not, but that is another story.

    Godox ving 860 are even faster and no nedd to change AA-batteries....it works for about 650 full flashes...the version 2 doesn't need a receiver, its build in...still for very good price. The trigger xT1 N is fantastic because so simple to use.....

    • @emotivephotographytraining4862
      @emotivephotographytraining4862  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great point, I also looked at the 860 and its a great flash, but it came down to the application for me, I personally chose the TT865 because I use it for weddings and the flash is always powered by a battery pack so recycle times are great as the AA batteries are only there to run the electronics, not the flash itself. The other reason is that during all day weddings we could shoot thousands of shots and it was simpler for me to able to swap cheap AA batteries than buy extra Li-ion polymer batteries if I have power pack failure, But if was going to use a flash for general use then your spot on, the 860 is a great option. Totally agree with the X1, best transmitter i have used, I have made a quick basic get started guide to offer camera flash set up here th-cam.com/video/lgb6k20Eso0/w-d-xo.html

  • @worldstudiosphotography7535

    I do not agree with this because Nikon engineered their flash to work with the Nikon camera. If you are a Nikon user you should become familiar with the Nikon CLS system , you could control several flashes and the pwr output to each separately, from the camera are the master flash (SB 900, 910 or 5000). Not to mention, NO EXTRA EQUIPMENT to inventory a better yet... less possibility of malfunctions (triggers)! I have know other Nikon photographer to experience focusing problem when introducing off brand equipment in low light situations. Not discourage anyone from purchasing other equipment but, Nikon equipment work very well with Nikon cameras and lens.

    • @SonoNessuno
      @SonoNessuno 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can control different off-camera flashes and their individual power output with the Godox system as well, either from the old xT1 transmitter, the newer XPro, or from another TT685 mounted on the camera as master flash unit. They all have their included transceiver so there's no need for external transmitters/receivers combos. They also support strobo and High Speed Sync.
      And price; flagship SB-5000 costs €600.00, which is 6 times as much as the TT685n (at least here in Europe). Considering that, for one sixth of the price, you get a quasi-equivalent speedlight, I'd say it's more than enough if you're not a full-time professional with a dedicated studio setting.

    nikon costs more because it was the one who actually did Research and development meanwhile chinese Godox copied the the material blueprint and made something better for cheap as always due to their industrial might. Research and Dev is always expensive as you are coming up with something from scratch meanwhile duplicating a thing is a whole another story.
