  • If you’re swapping the stock tires and going bigger or want better low end for slow and low Rock crawling, getting a gearing reduction can help you keep the speed you want or help you do that low and slow rock crawling. In this video, our friend Scott from Project UTV shares with us some of the benefits of getting a gear reduction done and why it is a much better option than just adding a clutch kit.
    If you live in Utah and are considering getting a gear reduction done, reach out to Scott on Facebook and he'll get you set up!

    Great info! So my 21 RZR XP 1000 Trails and Rocks edition came with a 50% gear reduction in low range and 30” tires. Does this factory gear reduction mean it’s safer for me to bump to a 32” tire without adding undue stress on the drive train?

    I’d be curious to know exactly what gear sets he is using. I’ve been researching this for a while for my Pro and trying to decide if i want to gear down or not for 32s. It seems pretty happy on hard pack but feels like a total slug in the sand even after dropping tire pressure to as low as 7psi.

      The gear set is from RCR, but you can reach out to Scott. His info is in the description below. 👍 -Garrett

    I desperately need an answer that even polaris themselves can’t answer! I have a 2018 570 utility that comes with a factory gear reduction, i know i go about 10 mp/h less than a normal model but i dont seem to have more acceleration? What tire size could i put on to be about like the normal ones i have 25 tires how higher could i go without going to far

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a 570, probably 28s would be the max size in my opinion.

    I'm not out West. Do you have any recommendations on where I can take my machine to have gear reduction done to Turbo S. Plan on running 35s, and carry gear tools. The 60% in low I think is what I want too.

    SO what about the front end gear ratio when you get into 4 wheel drive and the front and rear locked together!

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From Scott: The driveline connects to the transmission so the front diff will always spin the same speed as the trans no matter how you gear it. Think of basically that the transmission acts as the rear differential, and transfer case all in one. 👍-Garrett

      @@DerangedOffRoad Garrett, I may be wrong but I think what Wayne Owen is saying is that it seems with the current set up the following will occur:
      Although the trans output will spin the front drive shaft the same as the rear, once power goes through the pinion and ring ratio, the output at the axles/tires will be different.
      I hope I made sense what I said…

  • @ChristopherMCross

    Are you doing the gear reduction due to the 32s?

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did it mostly due to the use this machine is going to get. It will spend a lot of time in the rocks and we’ll probably eventually go bigger than 32” tires . Plus we wanted to be sure that the trans was properly aligned with the engine so we can have the best possible belt life.

    what if you put on 4in portal with a 15% gear reduction ? do you also do the rear end

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can depending on how much you want to go down. -Garrett

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The great thing about a gear reduction is it is more customizable. You can gear low and high individually where with portals you are essentially doing a 15% across the board. Not to mention portals are big money compared to what we did.

    Garrett, does anyone make a gear reduction for the KRX?

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I know of, but at the same time the KRX is geared pretty low so that’s probably why most just mess with the clutches on them. -Garrett
