That's a great suggestion! I've been looking at doing a Massive Attack video but they usually only use a sample or two and then record the rest of the instrumentation in studio. I might still try to deconstruct and rebuild a track of theirs in the future.

Yeah, those drums were masterfully programmed. The energy they give is so unique and appealing. I do plan on making more videos soon, so thanks for the sub!
what are you doing at 7:43?? the way you were pulling and lining up the hi hats with the sample above it?!?! does that have a "name" so i can find a tutorial? When I play samples together I have to screw around warping them and the results are lackluster.... hey AWESOME video BTW....
Thanks Brian! I don't know if there is a tutorial out there specifically for that cutting and moving, but if you're using Ableton, you should be able to do it no problem. I make sure that the "fixed grid" is set to off (right click anywhere that the grid is showing) and then I place the cursor where I want to cut and hit Command + E on mac or Ctrl + E on PC and then I just click and drag to where I want the sample to be placed. It's much earlier when you are shortening the sample or speeding it up as was the case with this track because you are taking away a piece of the sample, so the pieces automatically overlap. When you are stretching a sample or slowing it down using this method, it can be a bit trickier.
I really enjoyed this breakdown, the extended overhaul mix is one of my favourite DJ Shadow tracks. Unfortunately, it does furnish me with the answer I need. Namely, where is the intro vocal sample from? "You got an organ going..."

To me, it sounds like the organ notes play the first half of the note twice, rather than the full note.

I wish I had the answer! It's likely from some extremely obscure record that will never see the light of day.
