It’s impressive when Shadow layers a lot of samples together. But you have to appreciate how he created an entirety unique and new song out of a short loop. It’s easily the most dream like song from Endtroducing.

Funny, I absolutely love how the Kraftwerk sample is used in the track.

for me, this one kraftwerk sample has made the whole shadow's track brilliant

      It's a great usage.

More great deconstructions straight from Karl's garden! _chef's kiss_

And for another deconstruction recommendation. Xtal by Aphex Twin would be cool.

That's a great track. I've got some other videos coming up, but I'll take a look and see if this one's possible! Would love to be able to do an Aphex Twin deconstruction.

These types of Videos are way underrepresented. Super interesting

Wow these videos are fascinating can’t stop binging them 😅 there are several samples in Moby Play that are yet to be identified which I’ve been trying to track down for years

Haunting and beautiful. The perfect soundtrack for a nightmare. Great deconstrution.

Thanks for another great deconstruction! I always thought the Kraftwork sample was a unique addition to the song, without it the rest of the song would kinda be more of the same. I do see how people dont find it fitting or that it dominates too much but you can't deny it's unique.

Thanks for your thoughts! Good point about that sample making the track more unique and interesting. Unlike most Shadow tracks, this one is somewhat limited by the single sample where the drums and main elements are all indivisible.

I like the kraftwerk bit. Although ralf is saying "one" in German, it sounds like "I" in English which goes well with the theme

Thank you for this, shadows technique in this era is truly mind blowing,To my knowledge I don’t think anyone has really replicated anything like it with the multiple samples and genres in one track and blended so smoothly

I definitely agree. It can be hard to appreciate just how much time and patience goes into all of these tracks. The crate digging, the hundreds of hours listening to records, the ability to hear when a break is "special" or even usable, cataloguing and organizing the samples and then the ability to mash the samples together in a meaningful way. As with most art that is well made, it's more of a time consuming, marathon effort than people realize.

No sample? No problem when you can just make your own. Nicely done!

The What Does Your Soul Look Like (Pt. 4) remix off the Endtroducing Re-Emagined album contains a more isolated version of that unknown piano sample. It's an interesting listen since it's probably the closest we'll get to hearing that sample in a clear state.

    • @KarlBoltzmann
      @KarlBoltzmann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Hi, do you have a link for that? I'd love to hear that sample more clearly.

It's a very straightforward remix. It's like a Footwork version of the song. The piano appears at 1:35 alongside the saxophone sample. And it's also at the end of the song.
The piano sample is a very choppy loop. And I hear some resemblance of a bass being filtered out in the background.

@@hihihi8447 You've got a great ear. Almost sounds like a classical guitar or maybe a harp? Very strange sample whatever it is.
