Dutch was a man who had dreams about life but no visions in life. John was a man who had visions about life but no dreams in life. RDR2: Dutch is organized and clean while John is disorganized and dirty. RDR1: Dutch was disorganized and dirty while John is organized and clean. Dutch’s dream of being against civilization fell apart, while John’s vision of protecting his family built him up.
I think John's feelings about Jack were always there. It's just he couldn't bring himself to face what he felt. The biggest clue is that being true in my opinion is, when he gets angry let Arthur for taking Jack fishing something that a father would do, and it served his reminder of the piss poor father John knew he was at that point. With Arthur doing that and Abigail turning to Arthur like she did, John began to feel that he was being replaced and so jealousy and guilt arose in him.
Exactly you hit it right on the head. John KNOWS Jack is his but he doesn’t want to accept responsibility bc of how being a father can clash with his current life on the run as an outlaw. Deep down he does care, otherwise he wouldn’t have returned from his year long hiatus. He wouldn’t also get mad at Arthur for taking Jack on a fishing trip and Arthur even calls out John for getting mad “If you say the boy ain’t yours what’s the difference?” and John deflects the question with another one “Why are you so interested in my life?”
@@tammykolu1242 Agreed but in that one instance where he found out he took Jack fishing he does show some jealousy. But Arthur is more jealous of John and over all angry with how good he seems to have it being Dutchs and Abigail’s favorite and John not being appreciative at all about it. As Dutch grows more resentful of John, Arthur starts to let go of his grudge and basically forgives John for everything especially abandoning the gang, and I’m not saying that Dutch not liking John is the cause of Arthur’s actions but it’s interesting how Dutch and Arthur inverse each other in development and even in their relationships with other people
Red Dead Redemption 1 is in my opinion a perfect game. One of the only reasons I rate it slightly above Red Dead Redemption 2 is because of how it presents the unstoppable cruelty and indifference of time. In the first game you spend hours and hours catching Bill, Javier and Dutch, and then the government betrays you and murders you. The saddest tragedy about the ending is how Jack Marston ends up just like his father and Arthur. The game shows the march of "civilization", infrastructure, law and order and industrialization into the Old West. It's hard to watch the gangs, bandits, gunslingers, snake-oil salesmen and heroic sheriffs be swept away by the soul-crushing might of civilization. There is something charming about the chaos and mischief of the Old West as displayed in the game, and we watch history fade before our eyes.
I personally like to see a game where we play as Mac calendar, having survived the Blackwater massacre and setting up a new life out west, where he uses his skills to protect a town under threat. I’d set it around 1901, maybe featuring a cameo from Karen Jones and we could potentially save her from a life of alcoholic prostitution as part of Mac’s redemption
Corny idea if you go the Mac route his redemption will end at the black water heist cause pikertons pronounced him dead and mysterious guy with the hat also said he died so you will have to start the story years prior to the heist leading up to it then play a epilogue as Arther Morgan end of story or play as Arthur prior to black water heist
@@elvisrolon1862That’s even worse bc there is no redemption, Charles literally says he died a vicious outlaw and that’s all there is to it. Honestly there is no more room in this story worth making a game on besides maybe Jack. The next red dead will hopefully be its own original story
@@josephstalin2606 I agree to the jack being main protagonist but after he kills the Jim what is there to the story after that game already in 1911 at that point and the Wild West ended in 1899 only route in my opinion is either play as Mac leading up to the black water heist and his redemption will be at the heist some type of sacrifice for the gang or just start over will a whole new story time line etc but yea I agree
That’s bc we’re seeing the aftermath of a huge event for the gang, Dutch is indifferent to John bc John is being more open about his doubts so Dutch is kind of ignoring him to filter out any negative feedback. But prior to Blackwater he’s Dutchs favorite, especially after he abandoned the gang and was welcome back with open arms and is given his own tent while everyone else sleeps in a shared space (except Arthur but he’s older than the other gunslingers and was running in the gang longer than any of them)
In the prologue before Dutch starts letting his mask slip he trust John enough to send him into the mountains before Arthur despite Arthur protesting … i believe there was a nugget of that favoritism there… but the whole game after that is about Dutch letting his mask slip slowly and unraveling into a monster and abandoning/betraying everyone he definitely gives up on and abandons John earlier so I can see why you think that though
I think a good video topic for the future is “could Cleet have been redeemed?” His situation is pretty similar to Kieran or even Arthur & John. A dude who fell in with a bad crowd and was in way over his head once he realized how truly bad things were, and he ends up paying dearly for it in the end after he tries to leave. People don’t tend to see him that way due to being an associate of Micah, but I think his situation is more similar to ours than many of us like to admit. It was honestly kinda fucked up when Sadie executed him even if we choose to spare him. I think Micah was to him as Dutch was to the player characters.
@Garland846 Everything about Sadie contradicts what the story tries to teach you. Revenge is a fools game unless your Sadie Adler than Arthur will casually forget his motto and help her get revenge for basically nothing. She also becomes a bounty hunter later and doesn’t see the irony in the fact she was an outlaw herself and now she sees herself as above them, even John questions if what they’re doing is really right and she basically tells him she doesn’t care if it is
@@josephstalin2606 You're off the mark. Arthur only helps her in exchange for her help in saving the Marstons and the game even gives you an option not to. Sadie, on the other hand, is not exactly living a fruitful life in the epilogue. All she has is vengeance and bounty hunting is clearly just a means of enacting it without consequence. She still hasn't moved on, and doesn't care if she dies. Sounds like a fool's game to me.
@@KicktheSky34 Except she gets off scotch free and rides into the sunset for all we know. Everything you said would be spot on if the writers had the balls to kill her off at the end, yet they didn’t which unless they’re planning on continuing her story seems like a bad ending for me, you say she’s doomed to suffer playing a fools game yet she seems to be living her best life, the only time she shows any sadness or emptiness is immediately following her revenge all those years ago. And the fact the game gives you the option not to help her get revenge would be great and all if it didn’t punish you for it by giving low honor, which goes back to what I said how Arthur somewhat betrays his code by helping her, even tho she still helps Arthur regardless of whether he helps her. It seems weird that Arthur always preaches how revenge is a fools game yet when it’s Sadie than it’s suddenly a high honor thing to get revenge, while it’s somehow low honor to stand by Arthur’s code
“Scotch free”, she was a civilian who’s husband was killed by the Driscolls, and she only ever killed them. She committed no crime. What? I swear people who say she got off, “scott free”, are often just women haters. Alone, hunting bad men for money, leaving the very few friends you had behind? Yeah. Sure. Scott free, my ass.
Something I never heard spoken about Dutch throughout all the RDR2 character analysis videos I've seen is that he is prime Example of a Machiavellian. A word twisting, manipulating leader who strikes a perfect balance of love and fear amongst his followers!
This is well made and a great idea. I think to have a variety of content is always a good thing because everyone is different in the content they digest
Why not a game centered around Javier. He had a whole life story before ever even meeting dutch, he was a revolutionary after all and it would be set closer to the golden age of the wild west
@GallfTHEBOY probably hung you mean, and that would be applicable if one I hadn't said set before he even met the gang, and two the government offers deals alll the time and then just as john found out, they also tie up their loose ends.
I would want the third game to be about young Uncle, but we don’t know we’re playing him till the end. I feel like Uncle is a pretty mysterious character for being in two games and not much is known about him besides his exaggerated stories
The Uncle mystery has a lot of potential I mean we only know him as Uncle we don’t even know his first name. Rockstar can really get creative with his story by making RDR3 about him and his upbringing. I personally think the Arthur - John Saga ended the perfect way and there’s no need to carry on with these characters anymore.
Stay with me here if you want: Chapter one of the game on re-plays is better each time. You start to realize, they could’ve just went west. Dutch fucks up, Dutch gets mad, Dutch shoots someone in cold blood, they run from the law, our friends end up dead, Dutch gets scared, Dutch gets mad, Dutch fucks up, they run from the law, more of our friends die, Dutch gets even more scared and mad, and you realize all our friends are dead because Dutch was scared and mad. Dutch’s wrath is legendary, and it’s all because he’s free from consequences. Imagine if it wasn’t illegal to act upon your most primal emotions. Do we not kill cuz we’re “civilized?” Because we’re moral? Or do we not kill because of the consequences? Most of us are the former, less of us are the latter, and even less than that are like Dutch. But they are out there. 5/5-ass game right here.
A great contrast between my experience playing both John and Arthur was that I found Arthur to be an a-hole when I first started and didn't like him much, and John to be more likeable and personable in the beginning. I still loved them both a lot to the end, but with Arthur, I grew to trust him more and gained a deeper understanding of why he acted like an a-hole (his loyalty and deference to Dutch and the gang), while I began to question John the further along I went through his story (the Mexico chapters in particular, with the human trafficking and playing both sides). The way Rockstar wrote both of them is so good and your video really supplemented things I already found so interesting about John's character and his relationship to Dutch. Thank you for this!
I feel like its less of how far you’re willing to take it for your family and more of how much of yourself are you ready to lose for your family kinda situation for John and even Arthur in context of the Gang as his family.
I want spin off of the van-der-linde gang and red harlow or landon ricketts with each other. I also want a better nemesis system in the future games. if you clear a town of one gang, then another gang will come and take the town but have more members there. And when you kill someone other people will remember that can fight you every time they see you
I have thought a lot about what could be a third redid story and I. Keep coming back to the idea of starting the game is comb's brother and then becoming arthur when he's younger, just starting in the gang
See I don't agree with this narrative that arthur was almost being manipulated to do things for the gang which is true very slightly but he was raised up to veiw all these people as his blood family he wants to protect the people he loves he always has we saw that with Mary Linton but he couldn't stop protecting his family
Tbh a game set around the time of the start of the Van Der Linde gang as Dutch, and we have to build it up would be a great spin off, or hell even a prequel
could the young boy from the German family Arthur and Charles helped El Rubio from GTA V Onlines great grandfather? There are pictures of them in the compound and he mentions that his grandfather was a german
No bc they’re not the same universe. GTA is completely separate from Red dead. Any small references like the book by “J. Marston” in Franklins house is just a mere easter egg and not meant to prove anything
I’d like a DLC where you can play as each member through some important parts when Arthur isn’t around like when keiern got taken or when Micah got arrested. That would be amazing! Or when you stumble upon Bill tied up by the river from some bounty hunters and Sadie when her husband passed!
I think the best spin-off game would be one where you are Dutch because he has been the main character of both games. If you really think about it, if it weren't for him, none of this stuff would have happened
Loved this video! I wanted to mention that when you were talking about Arthur being willing to go above and beyond to protect other gang members, SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT WANT ANYTHING RUINED . . . . there is a brief conversation he has with Tilly at Camp where she tells him she is nervous about heading South as opposed to the original plan and Arthur sort of dismisses it and Tilly says "Come on Arthur, you're not as shallow or dense as all that" she then tells him how she had family that were slaves. Arthur says he will protect her but Tilly responds still uneasy, Arthur then responds a bit more softly yet more authoritatively (if that makes sense) that he would protect her. Oh and as for ever having a day where when I'm in a bad mood and I take it out on the first person that talks to me....have you been reading my Twitter? LOL Sorry for the long response
Great series of videos... I strongly disagree with your take on how the camp hideout should be attacked more. (It would be a more believable world) . As someone who doesn't play much, I was pretty overwhelmed with just the BH ambushes. As i've played through 2 times now, I understand where you're coming from, but I think you feel the way you do because of how much time you put in the game. Rockstar does an amazing job of making a playable game while adding things for lifestyle gamers to seek after. I wish I could be like I was in my 20's, but yeah. I'm thankful Rstar thinks of everyone. RDR1 & RDR2 are my favorite games ever. I would hate to struggle through 3 because of not being able to put in hours every week.
Maybe the reason John left for a year is because he already saw the true colors of Dutch. He only came back because he wasn’t sure if it’s true (doubting his instincts) or he came to his senses to save his family from Dutch (but of course, he doesn’t show much care to his family from the First and Second chapters of RDR2 cause he doesn’t know how.)
The remaster was nice but honestly just felt like a glorified update to run on standard hardware, I would love a remaster of the 1st game with added life and full map from rdr2 at the end game, lengthen out jack’s character with epilogue side quests or an extended epilogue to properly end jack’s story, I would be more than happy with that kinda thing over a new game
I think a game about Landon Ricketts could be a good idea, obviously they would need to find a new voice actor but seeing the height of the old west would be awesome, and then at the end we could see the federal government trying to clamp down on the west, leading to Ricketts leaving for Mexico as he doesn't feel like he belongs in a civilized America, but he knows he can't fight it.
Cynic i have a question ,do you think that Johns opinion on Arthur changes depending on ending E.g going for money ,like i find it weird John says Arthur saved him when he actually went for the money
I think if arthur servived he would of been lost as he had loyalty and thats what he believed in and after what dutch did dont think arthur wouldnt of been able to trust anyone after that
What if Rockstar made a sequel to Red Dead 1 that was a spiritual successor to LA Noir. You play as a member of the newly formed FBI and you’re tasked with solving the murder of Edgar Ross and tracking down Jack Marston.
Mary-Beth was a babe! It's a shame that I'm not a bunch of pixels too. LMFAO!!! And, yes.. I realize she is in the second game, but fuck it.. I am going to mention it anyways. haha
It wasn’t Arthur’s fault, John and Straus got caught Dutch could have chose different but ultimately it’s his fault You smoking shit Belle, I came from the opposite direction
I completely disagree with you. John is loyal to his gang. Which is his family. Just like Arthur and the gang in the first game they are met people, some more scummy than others and some more likeable. Yes, I agree that John was more stupid by the way he tried to play double teams in Mexico. But is just like they did in rdr 2 where they played both sides with the braithwaite and the grays. The only different is that the gang did it to gain money and John to be reunited with his family. Also, to say that John´s friendship with Bonnie and his father was "just transactional" it´s just delusional. He saved Bonnie from a gang, helped his father and much more, because you can really see that John recognizes that they have a heart of gold and so he allows himself to be vulnerable and kind with them.Unlike with the other scummy people he finds himself along the way where he has to put this "scary" macho faced to get his way.
With the idea of new protagonist for a red dead 3... Sadie in South America during or after the events of John's story in RD1 but before jack does his thing at the end of RD1.
He obviously wouldn’t have, bc Arthur would still be long dead from TB or Dutch getting him killed if he stuck around longer. But let’s pretend Arthur didn’t have TB and the gang still broke up the way it did, Arthur would probably just move on with his life and live under the radar. The reason Bill and Dutch were targeted was bc they were still running around the country with large gangs at their back and causing chaos, and the reason John was chosen by Ross is bc Ross already knew where he was hiding bc he killed Micah. Arthur wouldn’t have been a target bc he wouldn’t still be running around in a gang or doing any of that he’d be living peacefully like the other gang members who weren’t targeted

God, RDR2’s story is so good, I’m almost shocked that the original story of red dead redemption was first!
“ You’ll damn us all “
I think the best spin-off game would be one where you are Dutch because he has been the main character of both games. If you really think about it, if it weren't for him, none of this stuff would have happened
Perfect I just started work
Loved this video! I wanted to mention that when you were talking about Arthur being willing to go above and beyond to protect other gang members, SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT WANT ANYTHING RUINED

there is a brief conversation he has with Tilly at Camp where she tells him she is nervous about heading South as opposed to the original plan and Arthur sort of dismisses it and Tilly says "Come on Arthur, you're not as shallow or dense as all that" she then tells him how she had family that were slaves.
I love long videos. Thank You 🙏🏾 ❤
Maybe the reason John left for a year is because he already saw the true colors of Dutch.
Dutch's take on John coincides with yours.
I think if arthur servived he would of been lost as he had loyalty and thats what he believed in and after what dutch did dont think arthur wouldnt of been able to trust anyone after that
Love your vids but sometimes your mic sounds horrendous
Love the videos but the gold gun spam really takes me outta the cutscenes 😂 I get it…but just looks wrong.
What if Rockstar made a sequel to Red Dead 1 that was a spiritual successor to LA Noir. You play as a member of the newly formed FBI and you’re tasked with solving the murder of Edgar Ross and tracking down Jack Marston.
Looks at last of us. Yeah safer not to do that
The reason i never played RDR1 is its impossible to access these days.
It's been re-released on modern hardware
@@slimkickensthere’s a common bug especially on Xbox that doesn’t allow players to sign in to play
Maybe rockstar makes a wwi game with jack Marston hiding in the us army or he gets a pardon if he enlists
No cause that’s not very ‘wild west’ as much as it is ‘western front’
Can you make a video on the calendar brothers and I think one of them might be the mc for rdr3
16:05 what the fuck did were you attacked by demons

Mary-Beth was a babe! It's a shame that I'm not a bunch of pixels too. LMFAO!!! And, yes.. I realize she is in the second game, but fuck it.. I am going to mention it anyways. haha
It wasn’t Arthur’s fault, John and Straus got caught Dutch could have chose different but ultimately it’s his fault
You smoking shit Belle, I came from the opposite direction
Can you make a video on if Jack got shipped to Italy instead of to bronte's
Yuh
With the idea of new protagonist for a red dead 3... Sadie in South America during or after the events of John's story in RD1 but before jack does his thing at the end of RD1.
Sadie would never be main character its called red dead redemption nor red dead vengence
Sadie sucks no thanks
You should do a video if John would’ve killed Arthur to if he was alive in the first rdr2
The first rdr2 💀
You got to many details wrong.
