    My dad brought one back in the 80's and it was so cool and non of the people we knew have this model C7 but it had it's share of repeated malfunction over the years especially the rubber bands and other electronic problems . But it was awesome and i still have it but it is not working . Thanks for the nostalgic moments .. Electric Blue was my favorite ....

    Hi James, look at the video again from the 14:00 minute mark onwards. The tension arm on the left is stiff and not taking the tape across the erase head. On unloading it will move the tape back into the cassette. A drop of 3in1 oil on the pivots and push/pull it back and forth and it should then be operational again.
    Cheers,
    Richard.

      Hi there, thanks for commenting, I did wonder why the tape wasn't lacing over the erase head, when I was editing the footage!!

    Hi. I currently have one of these C7's and would like to rejuvenate it the same way as per your series of videos. I am. not finding the video where the belt kit is replaced. Did you ever do such a video?

    Hi And thanks for the video,I'm not a pro at this but as an. engineer I can work things out gradually, I have fitted all new belts and everything works except rewind. unlike your video I cannot see the mechanism working without the tape in. I see you pushing down on a contact at (your video 6 min 30) which seems to activate the loading and wheels to turn.I cannot activate this. Im suspecting the tyres to be at fault but would like to understand the workings. Do you know where to buy the tyres? Cheers

      If you remove the idler tyres (they come off with some gentle persuasion) you can measure their diameter and width. You may find something destined for a tape deck, that might work. I have also had some success with removing the tyres and boiling in water, not fully boiling, but simmering for twenty minutes or so. This can renew them to a degree. If you want to leave them in situ, rubber renew also works wonders, but use it only, in well ventilated areas.....it is rather strong. Once dry, you should find the grip to be far better.

    I need to run the machine without the tape to understand what happens with the spools especially if I can engage rewind

      Sorry for the delay, there is a switch in the cassette tray area, that when pressed, will lace the machine up. There are a number of idler wheels which will drive the supply spool (the left hand one) which do respond well to a clean up and some rubber renew. There is also a single belt from the head motor, that drives a central idler, on the underside of the machine. Also check the back tension arm, these sometimes stick, and don't loosen off enough to allow for an effective rewind.

      @@JCTsFascinatingHobbies Hi,thanks for the advice, I heated up the tyres as you suggested (lost a circlip to one of the rollers as I was nervous about taking the tyre off) seemed fragile. just received replacement circlip and fitted. just tested and we have play,FF and FR. still cant get it to spool up without the cassette in, I know the switch you are talking about but it won't operate the spooling for some reason?Now have to put all back together and see if I can connect it to a tv. next issue? I guess this won't record anything anymore as tv is digital? I have a load of tapes im trying to put on DVD but need to see whats on them 1st.thanks for your great video and advice, I only did this for some therapy in lock down. Best regards

      @@JCTsFascinatingHobbies Sorry should have said fitted new belts as well. Internally this is a very clean and serviced unit.

    Thanks that’s a good suggestion as I’m not able to find replacement tyres. But how is it I’m not able to operate the load without having a tape in?
    Thanks

    A Sony Betamax tape in a Scotch box, with VHS stickers. We are now in the Twilight Zone.

    • @JCTsFascinatingHobbies
      @JCTsFascinatingHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran out of Betamax specific stickers, so used a spare VHS set to label up the cassette. This was around twenty years ago. I was using a mix of VHS and Beta machines, for recording purposes......

      @@JCTsFascinatingHobbies Many, many years ago, I rewound new cheap VHS tapes into Beta cartridges (the size of the tape is the same). Do not forget the necessary part of the guide tape, which must not be missing, so that the device at the end of the spool can turn itself off. After such replacement of the tape, it is necessary to rewind and rewind several times so that the tape settles in the cassette. It is necessary to use a completely new tape, because even a perfectly erased VHS recording can adversely affect synchronization in Beta.
