Around the turn of the century, we bought a 'job lot' of ßetacam tape to reuse. We've had a number of machines, cameras and accessories over the years.
You are truely a master in what you do. I know it's not the same but I disassembled a Betamax C7 and it's been in that state for over one year. Can't figure out how to put it back together haha
Were there warnings not to use a metal tape in a non metal beta machine? On the tapes or in the instructions to the players? If not, people would just use them improperly and wear out the heads .
Someone was not paying attention. The record lockout tab on the metal SP tape is on the opposite side and the record tab is missing where a conventional betamax is looing for it. So if one was to put a betacam SP tape into a betamax and try to record it would eject the tape. You didn't just walk into best buy and buy betacam SP tapes. These were professional tapes and you bought them from the pro dealers at about 50.00 each. So, no someone with a home betamax isn't just going to put one in by mistake and record. If t hey went to the trouble to cover the hole on the cassette and use it on a betamax wearing out the head prematurely and then going to the service shop the tech would just say, sorry bud you used the wrong tape, you wore out your machine, 250 to fix it. That would be on the user. Nobody else would be responsible. As we used to say to people that wore out the heads on their camera because they put a cleaning tape in and recorded on it, too bad so sad.
I am still trying to iron out the kinks of who's wrapped the cable like that years before me. TBH I don't recall any factory unit coming with the end knot but what's irreversibly curling the cord is the spiral... that is pure EVIL. I can't stand it, I have to change the power cord if it's mine.
One of my hf3000 from japan won't eject a tape properly due to front plastic been broken and cracked you have to hold the flap open for the tape too eject I also have the hi band SL-2100 fatal damage in description when i bought it but a tv repair shop fixed here in Australia for $200
Can I send you my betamax Sony SL-HF300? I replaced the VU led's, and tried cleaning my tapes, I cleaned the drum per your instructions, the heads, everything. I am still having trouble recording in HiFi, which was the only reason I wanted the deck in the first place. It acts like it's recording in Hifi but when I play it back its only mono. I can sometimes hear the heads hitting the tape sometimes. I tried lessening the back tension, and then it wouldn't play at all. I am getting really upset with it and feel like I wasted 50 bux
@@12voltvids yeah I'm in tennessee, it would be expensive... I haven't tried to get a picture yet, If I have a clean picture though, and no hifi, could it be my tape? or is it most likely the fm modulation? Why would my heads be hitting my tape? My drum didn't look all that shiny actually, but all these tapes i have are from about 1980... I thought the droppouts were from the heads hitting the tape because in places where the heads were quiet I had clean hifi, but then now i have no hifi at all after cleaning my tapes. I'm thinking about trying to respool a tape with vhs tape to see if it's just my tapes being worn out causing all of this, but can I remove the heads from an SL-5000 and put in the HF300? or can I use a set of heads from a parts vcr?
@@heavymetalnewsdeskthe 5000 series is a totally different drum. Not interchangeable. However if you have a picture it us not heads or preamp as it uses the same heads. Betahifi inserts the afm signal between the color and luminance. So its a problem in the hifi circuit.
@@12voltvids I lessened the backtension, maybe too much, I have to have the spring on the last notch to keep it from getting the tape out of alignment. Hifi is working much better, way less noise from the heads slapping the tape, Hifi drops out occasionally. So should I just try to split the difference between where the backtension is now from where it was before? Seems like that was the issue.
@@speedyboishan87 I only used VHS I have never used Batamax so I don't know if there are any difference between the each device. It also sucks when Tapes wear out.
LOL that 3rd rock from the sun promo the station is FOX 29. There is also a FOX 29 in San Antonio

I know someone who ruined their Betamax heads by attempting to play a Betacam SP tape. When they realised SP uses a metal tape it was too late...

Woopeeeeeeeeeee! This is why I watch this channel. Sony Betamax repairs. The rest is just filler. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The audio sounds demonic like with the Tape not being sinked up correctly.

I'm sure more will fail, the plastic is getting pretty brittle.

I'm in canada. Don't know where you are but shipping is more expensive than repairs unless you are local.

Can u help me diagnose my Vcr ?
Isn't it annoying when a Tape gets jammed?
Worse when it gets chewed or jammed yes its so annoying and frustrating.
