Another option to put the long bolt in Is to go from the bottom since the car is jacked up Your able to see the hole that the bolt needs to go thru instead of trying to put it in by feel I used a long screwdriver to help I was limited with tools and thought I would share for anyone else searching for another option for this job.
At the 15:30 mark, When loosening up the tensioner, make sure you loosen the bolt on the pulley first. If not, no matter how much you loosen the tensioner, the pulley won't budge, and the belt stays tight. The video skips over that part.
Great details on the video. Saved me and my dad a ton of time helping a friend swap out her alternator on her 07 Maxima. That long bolt on the bottom was the hardest thing to get back in place but everything else was pretty straight forward.
Thank you tigerstrike65 for viewing my video. Yes, that long bolt was pretty tough. Patience will go a long way. Once you've done it enough, it will just get easier. So they say lol. Sometimes a long magnetic tool or a long needle nose plier can be useful guiding that bolt in. I am happy that the video helped.
Like when u get to the part, “All u have to do is remove this bolt” 🤨 dude I came to your channel to see how u removed it, or for that matter how to reinstall the main bolt that holds the alternator, u totally skipped that part
same thing, like the one part we need to see. eventually my girl got under the car and blind fish hooked it in while i guided from the top... real PITA position on that one without a set of long pliers
The simplest way to install that alternator bolt is to go underneath the car while someone up top helps to keep the alternator aligned. You can see a straight shot to it underneath.
I had to remove the alternator partly a few years ago to replace a timing chain guide on my fiancee's Maxima. I remember getting that bolt back in was the single most frustrating part of the job. It's not that any part of it was easy, but that single bolt was the worst. I was afraid I had to remove the fans to replace the alternator. I hate having to bleed the cooling system. When my coworkers Cavalier had a bad alternator, I just removed the intake manifold to get it out rather than draining the radiator. Everything is a headache with these damn Maximas though. Just to replace a headlight, I had to remove the entire bumper. And the power steering pump isn't exactly a cakewalk either, it's kind of the same deal as the alternator, the long bolt goes through the back. You have a little more room, but you can't actually see what you're doing lol
Man can you please tell me where you got that swivel socket to take out the bottom alternator bolt. The universal ones are not working. Yours seems more flexible and practical...
I am having trouble finding a video for replacement of my 07 3.5l altima alternator. Would the replacement process be the exact same as the way you just did for the maxima? -Tyler
I just had the alternator replaced on my 2004 Maxima but the car is not the same. It’s shaking and the check engine light came on. When I went to pick it up at the Goodyear shop he asked if I had smelled smoke. I said of course not. The car’s brake and battery light went on and then it died on me and that’s why I had it towed to Goodyear. By the way they charged me $700 to change alternator. 😢 I know this doesn’t cost so much. He said some wires were melted behind the engine. I took my car home because I don’t know what they did. Again my car died on me in the street and there was some smoke and burning smell. I had to have it towed to another shop. I got 3 codes for the check engine: P0303, P1615, P1610. Can someone please give me advice and tell me what went wrong? I don’t know what to do. I’m so upset 😢 I love my car but I have spent so much already. I can’t find an experienced mechanic who is honest. Is the new alternator causing the issue? Is it electrical? Hope someone can help. I would really appreciate it.
Rich here 06MaxSe - 5sp Atm! Great video..and you make it look so simple..with basic tools..thanks..question?? How long did it take you?? About to attempt this today..keeping my fingers crossed..Love My Car..
Hey Machine Head! You skipped when and how you took out the Radiator. You showed taking out the fan, but suddenly I notice that the radiator is out! What's up with that bro?
How you gonna skip the hardest part and just show the bolt after u got it out. Someone else must have had to do it for for so u didn't want it on camera. That one part screwed up your whole video
This guy makes a big mistake right off the bat. To get the alternator out you HAVE to take out the radiator. The alternator will not come out with the radiator installed, there is simply not enough room. So the first thing you do is take out the radiator drain plug to drain the coolant, do not take the top hose off first, you'll make a huge mess! It also makes unhooking the connections and the bolts on the alternator much easier to get to, so again, do this first! Also, don't bother taking the fans assembly off the radiator first, just unplug the fans and remove the radiator and fans as a single unit. Again, much easier. Look for separate videos about removing the radiator on the year and model of this car.
You not have to take out the radiator. Just remove the fan assy. Slide the alternator from left to right and remove it just before the upper hose. It would be best to put some cardboard against the radiator fins to protect them.
I just recently did mine and did not have to remove the radiator, only the fans. Only had to drain just alittle, enough to remove top hose without leaking.

That high pressure steering pump hose is a total nightmare. I know it 4 years old. I just a flashback.
Oooh yea that is one nasty timing chain rattle. That motors got problems.

Where u the new alternator connector from?
Where you get extension from I need for my 2000
Great video. Every step is very clear and well explained. Thank you.
Why did u leave out the part of taking the nut off the bottom bolt?
This is the best video I've seen
Do I need to Maxima if I change the alternator
How did you remove the bottom bolt?
What tool did you use to get the bottom alt bolt.
Its good procedure to replace the alternator of nissan maxima. Thanks, 👍👍
I am having trouble finding a video for replacement of my 07 3.5l altima alternator. Would the replacement process be the exact same as the way you just did for the maxima?

The Altima and the Maxima with the 3.5-liter engine are the same.
How do I disconnect the fan connector
When did you remove the radiator?
somewhere between minutes 16 and 18 the radiator disappeared

Great video man keep up the awesome work
Thanks guys...! Really helped me out
Where did you take your alternator to get tested
Any big auto parts store will have a tester ex. Auto zone, advance auto
Hey buddy thanks a lot for the sharing of your
Thanks!! Its a great video thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Do I hear a Timing Chain Guide rattling?
Hahahaha hella
If the timing chain was replaced, did the mechanic mess with the alternator at all?😅
yes
Can you please give details on how you were able to get the long, lower bolt back into place on Install?
He literally did that in the video.
Through the bottom
Bro all u need to do is wiggle it in place it will pull thru
It only helps to disconnect the battery as long as you don't allow the terminal to touch the post. Lol
Well explained !!!
Thank you
