I was directed to your channel by your fellow TH-camr Mark Wildling. The dilemma as portrayed in your video here is not something that I thought would ever happen. You and your family obviously care deeply about the boat and her structural integrity and, as someone who has always treasured and looked after my processions, I completely empathise with that. All we do at this stage is hope whilst bearing in mind that, by design, boats are strong and have a large degree of resilience. I await your next video with baited breadth. In the meantime our hearts are with you.

It’s a pity that you have had to endure this minor disaster in that damned marina. I’m sure that insurance will cover any damage caused to your boat, but the stress of this incident is immense for you and your family. For my part, I have enjoyed this vid. I hope I don’t sound churlish, but I don’t have a boat and I’m looking for lessons that I might learn in the event of me parking up my yacht in a marina. Ha ha! I can only think that in future, I would have the utmost concern when placing those bouys or buffers over the side. I’d have them substantial and plentiful. I do hope you recover from this fiasco without too much hassle. To David, I’d say, well done pal, it’s great to know that kindness and generosity towards our fellow man, in such times is still out there. You’re a star!

It is at times like this we remember the power of tides and especially those in the Irish Sea! I once saw the 50ft plus tides at Portishead and saw the value of triple keels on the yachts moored then looked UP to the gates of the dock basin! It certainly makes for challenging sailing and obviously (occasionally) for challenging mooring! You are shocked as if you had survived a nasty fender-bending crash when it does not matter what caused it, the disruption to your life is the real damage. BUT you guys are resilient and strong and focused, so I am pretty sure all will soon be well, if your insurance company is worth the premium! I have my fingers crossed for you!

Any boat can lay in the mud outside Portishead as it’s the wet soft mud.. I’ve spent many a hour in my fin keel waiting in the hole before the marina was built waiting for the next tide to enter the river!
The bilge keels come in handy when further down the channel when visiting places like ilfracombe where it dries to hard sand.

Really feeling sorry for you all. Its not just a boat, but a home. Although it looks really bad and there will be damage, your boat is very strong and its amazing what the boats hull can take and how it can flex. A surveyor will need to check the frames and stringers, but they are probably ok. The boat will not have had its full weight on the hull, due to the mud and angle. The sound of rubbing probably sounds worse than it is, I've had that when listing over in a drying marina with a bilge keel, its the slow friction rubbing on the hull, rather than cracking. It seems such a shame this happened so close to home and not due to the normal forces at sea, for which she was designed, but hopefully it will give you confidence in her strength. Greatest sympathy and good luck!

I feel for you. Having been in a very familiar situation once, there's no worse feeling than standing by helplessly, watching your boat being destroyed. (in my situation, mine was lost but we did manage to save 10 or 12 other boats).
Fortunately, the damage doesn't look too bad and I'm sure the marina is well-insured; just that all this cr@p puts your plans back so much.
Keep positive and I'm sure in a couple of weeks it won#t seem half as harrowing in your mind.

I can't think of anything more stressful or disheartening than watching your home hang on the precipice. Another example how there is nothing rational about the world we live in where bad things happen to good people.

You can model the framework in plastic pipe square or round though woods more stable and renewable.

Really your boat fine is just fine. That was just a bit of a leaning. The only spots I would inspect are the bulkheads tabbings where the chain plates are bolted on. Wouldn't worry about the keel. Boats are remarkably strong and a human would sooner break down and lose it before a boat will. Your boat was on its legs, leaning is all. Imagine what pressures are upon it when rolling over or pitchpoling in a big storm, so really this is just a bit of gel coat crazing. But new boat owner, nice family, you'll all be just fine. Good luck.

I assume that the marina management have a public liability cover for just these kind of occasions As managers of the lock gate they will liable for any damage done to the boat
