I've watched this video on my other utube account too. It cracks me up every time ... that you are working around a pool in the sun AND then "The Honest Mike Tailgate" episode occurs in the drifting snow. This is one of the top 10 "Honest Mike Tailgate Review"
HI MIKE, FIRST OF ALL JUST WANT TO SAY GREAT VIDEO(INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL). I ALSO LAY PAVERS OVER HERE IN LAS VEGAS NV. I WILL BE FOLLOWING YOUR TH-cam PAGE FOR MORE VIDEOS. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE. TAKE CARE.
That is a beautify job, another advantage to pavers is if or when you need to work on underground plumbing or electrical and have to pull up your deck it goes back together without anyone being the wiser for the most part.
Wow!!! This is gorgeous. Love how it looks senseless seemless and all one level. We're putting a pool in next year. Had no idea we can just go right over the old concrete. Save us $$ that's for sure. 👌🏼
Looks nice. My front walk is something similar. I thinset red clay brick to the concrete. I left about 1/4" to 3/8" joints. Then swept in a polymeric "gator" sand that's made for overlays. And overlay is a solid non drainable base. I was thinking on "bagging" the joints....but I wanted something with a little flex to it. It's seems to be working good so far here an hour north of Philadelphia PA.
Beautiful job and you're correct pavers from Pennsylvania and paver installation in Florida is big difference in Florida we use sand not mortar underlayment. We apply mortar to the coping but we only sand underneath the actual pavers

@@MikeHaduck hi quick question I’m doing a new pool and patio i live in IL so same weather pretty much I want to put pavers around the pool but do I pour a rough concrete slab first ? Some was set on concrete some was set in pea gravel Also is there any concerns that water will sit in between joints where there is solid concrete underneath/ freeze / pop / mold ? Just wondering looks great !
Excellent coverage on this project, Mike. To follow a project for such a long time and edit all the footage together this smoothly is great work! Maybe you should start doing documentaries for Discovery Channel. I would definitely watch the Mike Haduck show. The only thing missing from your youtube videos is the fights with psychotic clients and material suppliers :)
Great job and awesome pool! Slow and steady does win the race. Beautiful chocolate lab, is that your dog? Merry Christmas and happy New Year Mike! Thanks for the videos!
My pool deck is in need of some major updating but I seem to be stuck when it comes to the existing coping. It is the C channel aluminum coping. Is there a remodel coping that would install over it? I am afraid of cutting into the concrete due to cost and integrity of the deck. I love the style of coping you used but it looks like you are using a thin paver over the existing concrete and for my situation, it would not match up to that paver coping thickness. Any suggestions??
Hi Jenn ,something like that you got to ask the pool installers and the pool supply companies, as far as pavers go every situation is a bit different, I would ask the local guys, thanks Mike
@@MikeHaduck I installed my pool what's called the "River Pools Way". compacted crushed stone 2 foot surrounding the entire fiberglass shell. I'm installing flagstone soon and haven't decided if I wanted to mortar or glue the joint touching the fiberglass lip.

I would like to re-do my pool coping myself. I have old red brick coping. Can I just loosen one of them up and then work around the pool to remove them all or is there more to it?
Hi Mike, I love your channel. I have a question. I live in Eastern coast, so we have freeze and thaw weather. I have a nice and cracked driveway that need to be redone. I want to install a new paver driveway. My contractor told me to do paver overlay on concrete. He said he will remove the existing concrete. Install new concrete and drain. Then cement paver on top of concrete. He told me it will last for decades without crack. I have been reading about it. What do you think about it? I just don't want to spend so much money and the it give me problem or crack in a few years. I need your expertise and advice. Thank you so much.
Hi Jenny, I have a whole series called "paver installation " part seven is the driveway, Mike haduck, weather ,, patios ,sidewalks or driveways, I lay the gravel, wire, concrete and then the pavers , I never had a problems, I try to avoid drains if I could, thanks Mike
@@MikeHaduck Thank you Mike. I watched the video you suggested that. I have question about the durability of concrete vs paver overlay on concrete. Do you know if paver overlay will last longer than concrete itself? Or paver overlay is just for the look? Some website suggested they do not recommend paver overlay on concrete driveway because the underlying concrete doesn’t allow for the pavers to give, so they’re more likely to rock and crack. Since paver over concrete will cost $30000 while stamp concrete will only cost half. I m still debating if it is worth to do paver over concrete. Is it more durable than concrete? What happen if the concrete slab crack underneath the paver? I originally want to do paver without concrete but the contractor insists on paver overlay concrete because he said sand will be washed away. But then I just want to make sure the money I spend will be worth. The whole project is making me very nervous. By the way, why u said to avoid drain. I thought drain can direct water out to have less impact on the concrete. Is that not the case? Thank you so much for reading and answering my question.
Hi Jeff, I really don't know, but if you go to a masonry supply that deals with pavers you will find them, every year they got new colors and styles, you can never get the same ones after a few years, thanks mike
Hi Mike, I'm in Canada, so we have freeze thaw challenges as well. I'm curious about your neighbor's concrete decking that is now being used as a sub base for the pavers. It looks pretty solid, do you know what the sub base is for the concrete deck? Is it 6-8" of gravel/pea gravel? Thanks
