As someone who installs glass fencing for a DIY installation I must say you done a pretty good job. I was concerned when I seen the certification labels up top until you covered them with the braces, clever way of hiding the label. On our jobs we only use braces between panels in special circumstances of very large or small panels that need the extra support, so we always stick the label down the bottom and we make sure that all panels on a side have them in the same corner (I noticed you kept yours on a consistent side too which is good) since glass always bows out in the middle so doing this keeps the bow on a consistent side which helps with straightening and levelling the glass. Your gaps were a bit too small for my liking, though with your braces it does makes sense to have them like so. We try to stay in 35 to 50 mm range and generally aim for 40 to 45 mm, I feel this gives a good balance between not being too big or small while giving ample room to lift the panels out if needed. The Polaris hinges are pretty good, we used to use them all the time but we found they really needed to be packed out to combat the gate dropping and have had to go back out to numerous jobs to fix them up. These days we much prefer using Atlantic hinges (also soft close) and latches (we only use stainless steel, no plastic latches for us), we barely have to pack them out focusing only on the points that would receive most of the force and haven't had nearly the amount of issues we've had with Polaris. Still hinges from either will work great. You seemed to level the gate nicely, I am concerned about it dropping over time (if it hasn't already) so you may need to add additional packing. Also the gap between the gate and latching panel should be 10 mm, we like to just stick a 10 mm packer between them and move the hinge or latching panel. I've also never seen deck spigots (what we call these base plate spigots) screwed into a concrete slab like this, we only ever use them on decks and would use a core spigot on a slab. I can see the appeal of using them here on a slab for a DIY since not everyone will have access to a core drill, and even if you do there is more involved with in putting in the glass into core spigots such as additional supports and grouting. I do have concerns about the issues of height variance with using deck spigots though, I just know from experience how shocking the level some slabs have. One last thing did you put any protective coating on the glass to help reduce cleaning? If not I would highly recommend it. We use one called EnduroShield which works great by getting into all the little micropores on the glass creating a barrier that repels water (it just beads off) and limits dirt build up and comes with a 10 year warranty. Being 7 months since this video it is a long time to go without having it on (assuming you have no coating), ideally it's best to apply during installation as the glass needs to be as clean as possible.
We install the system with the shoe along the floor then we come in with the panels and cement them in. We also use 12 mm laminated glass and not tempered. We cut and polish the glass ourselves. It saved a lot of money
Great video, final pool looks amazing and so cheep relatively too!!! When I finally get my own home with a garden definitely will have a pool despite living in England and probably only get a week out of it each year 😂 ... Definitely will remember to put the caps on 😂😂😂
Where do you get those little shims from? We had an Aquaview fence installed and the glass is out of alignment in numerous areas, can't get Aquaview to fix it. Hoping that I can source the necessary shims to make these adjustements on my own. Thank you!!
Top video Bill. Yes, I spotted the caps not on early in the video and did the same thing when did my fence! ( I'm just a DIY guy). And I also put the same top bracket in too for the same reasons and also brings the glass into the exact some plane at the tops. I Like that centre punch tool...must get one. I've just upgraded our pool gear 6 years later. Switched to mineral pool and add the ph auto dose pump too, well worth it in the end, as in summer the pool eats acid. (Pool control XLS23 900 ppm low salt) Also had a $1600 robotic cleaner, but dug deep to a approx $3k one... (Maytronics with trolley) so much better and easy to clean the internal basket vs the internal bag on the old one. Has an app to for the iPhone (My Dolphin plus ) also does a feature to drive up to the top of the waterline so you can easily pick it up and remove... Bells and whistle too. Tip is not to leave it in the pool for days/ weeks as it will shorten the life of the blue power cable ( get all twisted and knots up) trust me on this fact! So each Saturday l put the unit into the pool and let it clean, 2 hours later my phone tells me the cleaner is finished. Buy cheap, buy twice otherwise. Hate the pool hose going into the skimmer box, gets in the way when in the pool, or you have to remove it when you have guests over. Reading enjoy your channel and content 😎👍
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. My pool pump is a salt water but produces the chlorine it’s self. I have been considering having to a mineral as mine can be changed for a few hundred dollars. I need to look into a auto dose as you’re right in the summer we lost much of the water and acid so a pool cover is needed. I looked at the maytronics dolphin and they are so expensive so I am hesitant to buy one. 👍
@@billshowto yep, 100 % get a blanket, I need one too but not sure if paying a lot gets a lot better result?.. cheap ones are crappy though from what I have seen. Mine still makes chlorine, but runs on very low requirement for salt levels, I add the magnesium into the 💦, just need to make sure your pool shop can also test for minerals not just salt levels like most. Yep, cleaner is 👆 there $ but I will take care of it, it’s good only having a cleaner in the pool when cleaning once a week max… I store it looked away in the garage, as too expensive to leave out, and all these bloody little young turds now days have no shame to steal things… I’m real pissed 😡 about this topic I see on the news most nights. Hose off the salt water 💦 splash on the glass so it doesn’t bake on. Like your nice long bench seat in the pool. I busy doing a complete bathroom gut and redesign… drains , concrete etc etc weekend warrior. I’ve gone the hard road and recessed the shower zone to make for a no screed main bathroom floor… not a fan of the step up at bathroom doorways. Shit I waffle on! … feet up time now, Home and away is on LOL 😂 😂
We usually put a rail across the top but I guess that’s more money and up to the client. I like that idea of using the studs and the adhesive in the hole . Can’t believe u forgot to put on the plates! Omg.
I was thinking the same thing.... .. where I live in Canada I would probably have dead waterfowl birds as they are coming in for a landing and hitting the class. I would have to either put a design on the glass or tinted glass.
Thanks for this! We love our robotic cleaner, had it for 3 years with 0 issues. Cost $750. Comes with a caddy as well. Search: Polaris 8050 Robotic Inground Pool Cleaner & Caddy Cart
sorry about the initial footage, just another life lesson 👍
You are only human. No stress ;)
Was very disappointed. Thanks 🙏

Thanks for a great video. First time for me and about to install our glass fence on Monday or Tuesday. Great help to show where to start.
You’re welcome 👍
Mate this is by far the best video online.... well done and please post other stuff as well.
You are good Bill. Cheers mate

Brilliant work Bill. Lovely finish.
👍
Great video and nice and easy to follow
Amazing, meticulious work, love you man!
glad you enjoyed it 👍

What if your concreter put a "fall", away from the pool, on the finished concrete. Do the spigots allow for "lean" adjustment?
Hey @billshowto
What pool and colour is that? Also what size tiles did you go and colour?
Video is awesome and super helpful
Cheers
Good stuff Bill. Cheers
I just loosened my lug nuts to remove a panel. The panel won't budge. Is it glued into the spigots? Or do I just have to somehow wedge the panel out.
Have a look at the Rebel pool cleaner, uses suction rather than electric plus easy to store/maintain and its a work horse of a cleaner
Thanks I’ll look into it👍 doing it old school takes so much time lol
Great video mate. Super helpful…. 🤙🏼
sorry to be a pain...should be using 316 stainless fixings...esp if a salt chlorinated pool. Theyrre all going to rust
Nice work 👍🏻
👍👍👍
Thanks alot

DIY work to be proud of, until you realised the caps are missing, right at the end of your hard work. 😤 Great video Bill.
Lol👍
Great Video! How long did the job take in total?
I did it slowly over a few days 👍
How to maintain the angle, I mean the straight between two pegs
Get a Zodiac MX8. Second hand ones work well.
Someone else has also mentioned this one to me. 👍
Where can i purchase the SS braces from?
nice 1 m8
👍
Is anyone aware of a similar product/calculator for use in the United States?
I may watch this clip later , if I don’t I will make one later
can I have the chance to work with you
So hard to find DIY kits sold in the US, that company there has ridiculous prices!
Did you ever find anything similar in the U.S.?
Great work Bill. Thanks for sharing. We also sell such products. If you need, please feel free to contact us.
You should be voted Australian of the year...there's nothing you can't do
Have you had many birds flying right in to it yet?
I was thinking the same thing.... .. where I live in Canada I would probably have dead waterfowl birds as they are coming in for a landing and hitting the class.
I would have to either put a design on the glass or tinted glass.
Only just finished the fencing today , so far so good. I hope it dosnt happen
May have to be an option , I’ll see how the next few weeks go 👍
Another easy way is to use GlassMate glass pool fencing install tool.
👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Beautiful but a really bad idea.
Thanks for this!
