    MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

41, technically, since her birthday is at the end of the year and something tells me that the speech at the stadium wasn't scheduled for late December, but that's getting too bogged down by the details. The point still stands: she ain't in her forties.

The lack of any plausible explanation at the end made it feel less like a mystery and more like an illogical mess. But I loved everything other than that, such as the acting, the camera work and sets etc...

Maybe in part due to the fact that i was really enjoying it up until the end. There was no explanation for anything going on, where did the doctor go? what was she saying to make everyone run away? why was the fairy circle there to begin with? was the prime minister character even human? i'm just so lost on what went on, both within the episode as well as within the writing room when they were coming up with it.

After the Space Babies I was afraid, we're not gonna get back in shape. Devil's Chord was nice, but it lacked something for me, I don't know... the notes flying through the air and binding like ropes were a bit too literal. Boom was great and made me believe there's still hope... But I am a Moffat fan, so I was expecting it to be satisfying. But This! This is amazing! This is awesome! Chills all over my body. I think that's a very good point and I think it's pre-showrunner Moffat who was more atmospheric, creepy, mysterious vs post-showrunner bombastic, show-off, even more quippy. This felt like pre-Moffat even though it wasn't. Like Empty Child, Blink, Silence in the Lib were all mysterious, strange, scary.
I'm not sure if he really wrote any like that in his showrunner phase except maybe Time of the Angels?

I love this episode so much, very gripping from start to end. I love how we are not sure how it ended and what the 73-yard woman (who is pretty much older than Ruby) said to make everyone fear younger Ruby (maybe we will know later on in the season). honestly, I love how little we actually know about the ending and the women, if it was revealed I would think it would hurt the episode charm. very close to 10, but I give it a 9.5. might change to see what I think about the other episodes of the season. 100% is my fave episode and I can see why Russell loved this episode, high praise to him.

And I loved the pub scene, winding up tourists with tall tales based on local legends is something I've taken part in myself lol. This episode helped me like Ruby a lot more as a companion. One of my gripes so far with the season is that I felt Ruby was quick to go along with everything when first introduced to the Doctor and she wasn't cautious like previous companions when they first encountered him (I could be wrong it's been years since I've seen old series' and I skipped the Chibnall Era).
BUT, I think this did a great job of fleshing her out more and the pacing of the episode helped with that a lot. While I have liked the faster pace episodes and I assume that's what they're going for to keep kids interested in what's happening, we've been needing an episode like this as I see it as quintessential DW and what made people fall in love with the show to begin with.
I'm so glad you loved the episode just as much as everyone else, I was looking forward to watching your video the moment I finished the episode

Apparently this episode 'split the fandom'? And like why? Its really bloody good, and I dont get why unanswered questions, or cliffhangers, or not finding everything out before the end of a series is such a big problem nowadays for people? Yes its confusing, but will likely make more sense in hindsight once Ruby's arc is complete, but before that we get to have fun speculating on wtf we just watched, and anticipate the reveal. I dont get this issue of not having everything spelt out to you.
    Patience people lol.

This episode reminded me of so many things I’ve seen before (in a good way). The lone female protagonist in an unfamiliar place walking into a rural pub with slightly odd characters inside reminded me of the 2022 film Men. The spookiness in general had a very Inside No. 9 feel to it and the hospital room scene near the end, as well the whole being followed by a creepy figure thing, was really similar to the 2017 film Ghost Stories. I absolutely loved 73 Yards. I've not been feeling Millie's performance & character until "Boom" & now "73 Yards" but here she was incredible 👏
There was honestly 4-5 episodes worth of story here though that really could have been developed & expanded on. I seriously would have ended the episode when Ruby said she was going to save the world & told the old woman to come with her.
That kind of ending would have created tons of suspense & a week of debate (maybe in the old 13 episode format maybe)
You don't get many answers in the episode but it made me "feel" more than any Doctor Who episode has in a long time & left me shell-shocked after. It's an episode which stays with you & you really felt for Ruby.
It's incredible to think what Old Ruby could possibly have said to make everyone run. Another appearance by Susan Twist but this time Ruby noticed her but it would seem that's now lost because of the aborted timeline? Can "Mad Jack" Roger Ap Gwilliam really be done? It would be a waste of a villain if so. Sooo many questions.
The implied "Trumpian" abuse of "Marti Bridges" gave me shades of "Lucy Saxon" & do I need to remind people that Harold Saxon's party was "The Albion Party" Hmmm.. (but that could just be another kick to our British Conservative party AKA The Tory's)
Kate said something interesting about Ruby's timeline " I think this timeline might be suspended along your event" too, it's always nice to see her but that wasn't a throw-away line!
I have my theatre tickets for the finale in Britain & I hope some of the events here will make more sense in that 2 part finale.
    A captivating episode!! 🥰

I think this is an episode that you can't overthink as many of the uknown elements of the story won't be answered, I think maybe the core purpose of the episode is to show off more of who Ruby is as a person, as she uses her new found power to "save the world" even when everything was looking bleak for her.

  • @speeeee35
    @speeeee35 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I just don’t get why Ruby was keeping people away from… Herself… But even if we say that that was necessary for some reason… I don’t get why deathbed Ruby was able to go back in time and live an entire life of 60 years. Like was she a ghost? Is she magic? Why is she able to live for 120 years? Like everyone’s caught up on wanting to know what she said to the people but I’m fine if that was just a magic spell or something… What I wanna know is how Ruby is alive for the length of two lifetimes lol
I just hope some of that stuff and some other things like… why 73… is explained by or in the finale… and that it’s not just a total throwaway episode that means nothing to the overall story because of her fixing the time loop, and that the explanation for the things I just said isn’t “because of magic by the fairy circle!” and that it’s actually a real reason that we find out that affects the overall plot.
As far as entertaining and looks and performances, that episode was amazing… But the more I think about it, the less sense it makes… So I’m just hoping it will eventually so that I can continue enjoying it as much as I did before I thought about it too hard lol .

space babies: 6/10 fun introduction and characters, slightly lacking in the story but beautiful visuals
devils cord: 8/10 always a twist at the endddddddd, fun characters, fun concept, jinx monsoons performance was incredible
boom: 9/10 tense, bone chilling story and great acting from ncuti, also really great Mandalorian CGI
73 yards: 9.5/10 creepy, eerie and tense at the start, millie gibson is amazing for her first episode filmed (it really is!) great storyline, great characters, underrated ending imo, the twist, while quite predictable, still got me hyped, everything about this story is amazing, only lost a half a point because a 10 is reserved for blink and heaven sent

rogue: 7/10 tbh honest i dont really know much about this episode but it looks fun
LoRS and EoD: 9/10 really cool looking concept, finally tying up the ruby sunday plot line and we finally get a susan twist explanation, finales are always good (ignore ranskoor al kovos), +1 point for unit inclusion

I think the fact the doctor accidentally told Ruby about earths Future caused this to happen, not the circle being broken, tying in with the Cause and Affect stuff, starting after wild blue yonder, Mavity, butterfly affect, goblins erasing Ruby in time etc.
Because Ruby was told of this future she’s bound to live that future without choice.
7am thoughts, take with a pinch of salt.

  • @user-dy5ku3gd7r
    @user-dy5ku3gd7r 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I dont know about the hand gestures and why exactly 73 yards, but i do have other theories.
Where did the doctor go: he was the one who broke the fairy circle, so maybe his disappearance was a type of punishment. And why didnt Ruby disappear? She was the one who took the scroll about Mad Jack and read it, so taking down the PM had become her mission alone, although she didnt know it yet.
Why did the woman make everyone hate Ruby: I feel like it was a defence mechanism, coz nothing should hamper Ruby's mission of dethroning the PM. If Unit, for example, successfully intervened and captured the woman, Ruby would have never been able to deal with the PM. So, its like: you try to approach her or talk to her, then you are repelled by her and driven away from Ruby, so that Ruby's mission can be completed without impediments or distractions. Nobody tried to approach the woman after Ruby dealt with the PM, so we don't know if this theory holds.
There is no paradox. The episode occured in an alternate timeline. And in that timeline, Ruby stopped the PM. When the timeline is reset in the final scene, Ruby does not live a life where she will stop the PM, so it isnt a paradox. Her original timeline is restored. In the final scene, the doctor again tells Ruby that the PM will "lead the world to the brink of nuclear-". Going by the exact words of the Doctor, the PM will indeed come to power in 2046, but clearly doesn't do any catastrophic damage. He simply acquires the weapons for symbolism.
This entire episode was in an alternate timeline and trying to be all meta coz in this alternate timeline, Doctor Who does not have a title sequence.

have watched it twice - the first time the lack of answers really bothered me (how was ruby teleporting around, what could she have been saying to make everyone freak out and run, why was she making people run, why does it have to be 73 yards, where did the doctor go, how did ruby travel back in time, what was the "point" of the episode if it all gets reversed and nothing really happened to begin with, ruby doesn't remember and presumably that guy is still going to be an evil prime minister), but on a rewatch I kinda just shut my brain off and accepted that stuff was just sorta happening for the sake of "supernatural shenanigans" and I had more fun with it. I personally enjoy answers more than ambiguity, but for other people I totally get this is their jam.
I also totally agree with the acting/directing/editing/music etc, everyone was bringing their A-game and it was like watching a movie.

Someone in another reaction said something about, the old Ruby didn't say anything, it was just they saw Ruby and noticed something. But I'm not sure. My question is, WHY, why are they just noticing this now. Especially Karla who has had the better part of 18 years with Ruby. and that Echo, "Don't Step" did make it seem like she was actually saying something but what, and if it was old Ruby, WHY does she want to isolate her younger self. Especially when Karla and Cherry are so intagural parts of her life. AND MY FINAL QUESTION. HOW? How did old Ruby time travel? Was it supernatural, does Ruby have an innate ability she doesn't know of yet? Overall, to me, the concept was interesting but I think. it would have made much more sense if they had played it kind of how they did it in the "god Complex" where it was a creature or entity, playing Ruby's fear. Which is where I THOUGHT the episode was going.
Now, it could be a "Turn Left" scenario where the Bug actually came from the future and and so does whatever they notice on Ruby..... but even that, in this context, I just don't feel like it works.
Also, IF the Doctor was effected, why was the TARDIS not, it just sat there for 80 years....
This was a bottle episode and thats all I will remember it as. A bottle,. throw away episode. I don't want to be harsh, but to me, this was another good example of message vs story "Nuclear War bad." Okay good enough, lets move on.

@@yuuuuuuuuuuu756 Anybody, it's illegal to sell or rent out a piece of upholstered furniture that doesn't have a fire safety label. Most commonly it comes up if you donate the piece of furniture to charity, they can't take it without the label. But it'd also be illegal to list it on somewhere like Ebay.

Yes, the best DW doesn't have any Doctor or Who in it. Apparently. But this generic sci-fan episode isn't Who, nor that great.

Personally wasn't my favorite. If they touch back on this episode in future episodes and explain some of the unanswered questions then I will like it more. I had two main problems with the episode.
1 - it was way too early in the season for Ruby to have her own epsiode without the Doctor. I am not emotionally invested in her character enough to care as much when she goes through her own hardships. Of course it's still sad watching her go through this, but if this episode was later in the season it would probably have been even harder to watch.
2 - Too little of the mystery is solved. How was old ruby able to appear in the past in the first place? Why would anyone who talks to her immediately hat the younger Ruby and run away? Why don't the cameras work when photographing her? I like the mystery and I think it adds to the creepiness but having very little payoff at the end was dissappointing. It was dissappointing for them to do what they did with Ruby and her Mum and then end it the way it did.
Still a good epsiode. The shots were great, good acting, good framing, good sets and the concept was great. But it left me a little *too* confused by the end

Let’s hope Russel keeps this up with the good doctor who vibes not the ooo woke stuff which everyone’s complaining about. Only problem is we started off badly, which has worn off a good million or two viewers. But yk

Ah i wouldn't go that far into saying this is the best episode in years lol there have been better episodes it was alright it wasn't extragaganzing or amazing it was just ok but i am not really the greatest fan of Doctor lite episodes and i don't think Ncuti has earned enough to have a Doctor lite episode since this is only his fifth full episode i think it's too soon Ruby was good in this episode but i'm kind of getting sick and tired of companions being made important why can't they just be normal people and the politics in this was abit in your face but the first two acts were good but the third act was very, very confusing it was just a recycled episode of "Midnight".

This new “series” of Doctor who hasn’t been as bad as Jodie’s run but goodness this is not what doctor who is at all. At this point call it “Ruby who” with how much they focus on her and not on the actual character of the Doctor. Been watching Doctor who since about 7 years old and it hurts to see the disservice this has done.

@@MrChiddler yes they have but within those they have showed how brilliant those companions are. 73 yards shows how empty Ruby is because like I said. Instead of looking for the doctor of confronting the woman just quite literally just lays down and dies.

Boring and lazy writing to leave so many things unanswered, the episode began with so much promise and ended in the most boring way possible, probably would have been better over 2 episodes to really build up the guy running for government
