    MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

It's so weird, I think going to the cinema actually hampered my experience. There were cheers after LoRS finished, and that was a lot of fun, but as the finale was going on it felt like the energy was being sucked out of the room. After the finale had finished the only conversations I could hear as we were walking out were of people saying they felt a bit let down. Nobody clapped or cheered, most people didn't even stay to see if there was a trailer or anything for the xmas special.

5:30 this is what I expected out of Jodie when she literally saw the entire universe almost erased with the Flux. Also I guess Sutekh cares because he's so self obsessed that the idea of one thing he can't solve drives him insane. I also really loved that the memory TARDIS is from Tales of the TARDIS.
But the funniest thing out of all of this is that a 15 year old girl wore an ominous black cloak on Christmas eve, walked to a church, dropped her baby off and then pointed at a street sign that nobody could see besides the CCTV and somehow the church knew what she meant....actually no the funniest thing is that if Sutekh has been on the TARDIS the ENTIRE time then he's been on it when the Silence blew it up, he was on it when it shrank in Flatine...hell during Day of the Doctor there were 3 Sutekhs at one point and later when all the doctors flew around Gallifrey, each one had a Sutekh so there were 13 of him.

It didn’t feel insulting like chibnalls era, I wasn’t bored, and I left the episode feeling like I ld had a good time.
Just feels nice to have decent Doctor Who back. Also I was hoping to high hell that Ruby would just be someone normal with a normal mum. I’m so fed up of these chosen ones and “important” people. So yeah I’m happy. I can see why others might not be.

I watched in the cinema and you're right, the experience is amazing. I could hear so much more in the Legend of Ruby Sunday soundtrack to appreciate! There's a choir chanting "Sutekh" way before his name is revealed! I need to watch Empire of Death again because I think I actually missed some of the plot details because it subverted my expectations so much. I wasn't happy with the Sutekh resolution or the reveal of Ruby's mother, but now that I think about it more, the latter is good: the idea that things become important because of the thought and feeling we invest in them is a bit like how fans approach the show itself. I don't buy that a fifteen year old girl span around and pointed at that sign in such an ominous way though...that was bizarre 😂
I love Sian Clifford and think she will be back as "the kind woman". Perhaps she is Susan?!

The show expects investment into Ruby's character but it didn’t earn it. 8 episodes is not enough for me to feel anything at that end scene.

  • @AnimeFanOmega
    @AnimeFanOmega หลายเดือนก่อน +2

RTD has said he took inspiration from The Last Jedi's twist, and I like that twist because it was REALLY based on fan expectations rather than what the story was setting up. Here tho, literally the reveal doesn't make sense. How is Ruby able to manifest snow? Why was the face of her mom not there? Why is there LITERAL music that happens with her? There are soooooo many questions that only make sense IF Ruby has something special about her or something special happens to her. To have the reveal be that we were "putting too much importance into it" makes absolutely no sense. She can just break the laws of thermodynamics because... she puts a lot of importance in being abandoned? Huh? Can EVERY human being conjur snow or other elements? Also the resolution being that they just needed to initially travel to the future to get a blood sample to figure out who Ruby's mom is just paints both the Doctor and Sutekh as absolute idiots. Why would you not think to do that at first when you have a time machine? Lmfao. It just doesn't work.

Ruby being a normal foundling is perfect. Anything else would be a bit hackneyed.

I will be honest and say I didn't mind how Sukteh died because he did achieve his goal tbf and I suppose he was distracted for a split second then allowed him to be tied up? Idk tho, however, those mativity gloves are pretty OP lol. I also like how you appreciate the kind women scene, as it goes to show that the most important thing in his wasteland is something ordinary object and that causes the tardis to wake up. (Although miss the opportunity to do the scene that the 12th doctor did with the spoons lol). I also liked that Ruby's mother was just an original person, but did find it weird how quickly she was accepting of Ruby (she also must not have had any family if there were no DNA matches). Also love the fact while Ruby might not remember 73 yards, it's still buried deep in her brain and was made canon. Overall I did like this episode, I just think there were too high expectations for everyone and everyone felt underwhelmed.
My guess on why Ruby can make it snow is because the doctor intervened by rescuing baby Ruby and this gave her the ability to create snow, maybe from the memory tardis? As she did seem shocked when it happened in space babies. This either won't be explained or will be explained. Also, another Mrs flood teased again, her reveal better be worth it RTD

It took me re watching it three times to realize that the Susan Twist cameos are really an upwards curve trough the series. her roles keep increasing in "power", influence, fame, etc. in the beginning, she's a servant, and in the last few eps her characters have money, or titles, or some sort of authority. it culminates with her being a billionaire and genius about to change the world. such clever writing. as her mystery becomes more important, her character also becomes more influential. and it ties it in so perfectly with Kate's theory on 73 Yards... so sad the ending was rushed and kinda meh. Feels like Russel wrote himself into a corner with how almighty he made Sutekh, and had to downgrade him at the end so the Doctor could win.

Genuinely terrible. Sutekh is an absolute joke in the ending, what a bastardisation of a brilliant classic monster. Defeating him by towing him through the vortex… what? The whole spoon scene with random woman: why? Useless scene. Gatwa screaming? No thanks. Ruby’s mother being nobody? Ok, and I like the message that anyone can be special, but that directly contradicts the fact Ruby makes it snow, the fact Sutekh’s interested, the fact the memories keep changing, etc.. Not bringing in Carol Ann Ford was a massive missed goal. I’ve really liked Boom, 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble and LoRS, but this was the worst of the series because of just how flat it managed to fall. Worst Doctor Who Ep since The Timeless Children or maybe even Orphan 55.

UNIT dying had 0 impact on me because Rose was there. If Rose wasn't in that room I could've believed it for a moment. So I had that "Oh this is getting reset" moment pretty much instantly.
I really don't know why people don't like the Sutekh cgi.
I think all Susan Triad was is just to be bait for The Doctor. But since he went to Earth so many times she was a tangible person rather than some randomly inserted one off.
Like you said, MANY bigger mysteries. Like Sutekh just didn't care that The Doctor is from some alternate reality and the last/only one of their kind? That wasn't a bigger mystery??
It was all just bait, a blatant lie. It's not that the fans were just overhyping a mystery and expecting MORE than the show ever implied like WandaVision. RTD intentionally misdirected. It was cheap and incredibly poor writting.
Also, 15s Tardis is a copy of 14s. So there's a copy of Sutekh just chilling on Earth.

Just typical RTD unable to stick the landing.

Even when my thoughts on the episodes are different than yours I can usually see your point of view. Which is rare amongst so many reviewers. I see so many critics just bashing RTD for the sake of it.
Before the final episode we had tons of the theories at least about Ruby's mother. And from all of them I really like what has been done. This empowerment of an ordinary, scared person. Was the resolution of Sutekh a stretch? Of course, but it's nothing new in Doctor Who. Could the finale be better? Probably. But it could easily be so much worse.

honestly we have at least one more season with Fifteen so I'm not super worried about his development or lack thereof this season. Ncuti rly worked for me and basically carried the season.
I cannot fully explain why but the real downfall of this series to me was Ruby Sunday. She is not the worst companion ever by far, shes def better than the "fam" and Clara. But the show rly wanted me to believe in the relationship between her and The Doctor and I just...didn't. Probably has to do with the shortened season but I also just dont think shes a well-written or compelling character. Even the episode "73 yards" which i rly did enjoy, was serviced more by the plot than anything having to do with Ruby herself, who the plot centers on.

For a breif window of time I felt like this was good, I also felt like it has the only moment that Ncuti Gatwa convinced me that he was the Dr and clearly a very good actor unpon his 1st confrontion with Sutekh sadly the convincing moments didn't last for me. This episdoe had to many unexplaned wins for the Doc it's was stright up lazy, like how come a whistle fires a huge laser from the Tardis at Sutekh is a prime example. The episode is an hour long and could have been condenced down to 15 mins, far to much of it relied on effects without the writting back it up and don't get me started on the gushing dialogue, both of these things were stright up filer. To recap at one point I was like, you know got this all wrong, Ncuti is a fine Dr and we so back to lilteraly me spontaneously telling the TV screen to f off. Yeah we are not so back. Still think Who needs to get canned for a couple of decades.

I was so let down by this episode man.
All the brilliant buildup for weeks and the reveal in the first part only to all end up in a lot of nonsense. The way they defeated Sutekh was like ????? what
And as much as I did actually like the Ruby's mother reveal and resolution, it still doesn't add up. Why did it snow? Why was Maestro scared by her "power" that felt similar to Sutekh's?
Perhaps, the story isn't over yet.
I wish the truth behind it was somewhat connected to the supernatural and the Pantheon. But I did like how it actually turned out.
I feel like for this series Russell literally focused on getting people to work on a lot of theories. It was very sort of meta. They revealed just the right information to push the theories in a certain direction. I think it's a good idea honestly but I kinda wanted more substance.
I loved Ruby's character and her chemistry with the Doctor but we've barely seen any of it - of course we know she is coming back in some capacity so we can see more. Still, the goodbye was very emotional.

Disappointing episode after the tension built up by the previous one and then towards the end it drifts into a soap opera territory. RTD's story telling has felt sloppy in this new era, I hope in season 2 we see new writers making a big contribution, so we might get more fresh and exciting new stories coming from different voices.

I'm teetering between underwhelmed & absolutely hating it. The virtual silence as 100s left the cinema at 1am was incredibly telling. There was audible anger at the Ruby ending in my screening & my friends couldn't say much positive about it afterwards, still in shock how bad a taste in the mouth the final 10 mins gave us & it broke my heart to feel this way 💔
    • The snow ❄️, indoors, outdoors anywhere in time & space???
    • The "Very wrong" Ruby??
    • The Xmas song hidden within her soul?
    • The 15yr old girl in a cloak from something out of the Traitors in 2004??
    • Naming a child by spinning around in front of no one being physically there to name your child by pointing at a road sign??
    • The missing 6 months of adventures mentioned in "The Devils Chord"??
    • Despite 6 months of travelling the 1st planet Ruby travels to is in "Boom"??
I enjoyed Power of The Doctor & The Vanquishers more than that finale & it hurts!!

I'm not joking when I say that this is up there with Game of Thrones S8, in how disappointing it was. For me at least. An amazing story, with so many mysteries and adventures. Episode after episode, building up the hype and tension. Theories being made because of how interesting this is. Entire videos dedicated to trying to figure out how this mystery will end. Only to just fall completely flat right at the end, for absolutely no reason at all.
Now, almost 24 hours later, I'm still in disbelief how terrible that ending was. It makes me sick to see a story I cared so much for and spent so much time thinking about, crying about and really vibing with was just taken out back and shot in the head, dead.
I've never seen a single episode of any TV-series do more damage to the previous episodes than this episode has done. Every single episode in this season has been trashed into the gutter for me, because the mystery was what made them compelling.
This ending was so bad, I regret even watching it. I think I would've been more happy not knowing how this all ended. Living a blissful lie, indulging myself in theories and making my own head-canon. All that was taken away from me.
Objectively speaking this episode is well made, great acting. CGI is well made (for doctor who), and excluding the last 15 minutes, this episode really hits hard and is up there with the rest of the season. Had it not been for the ending I would've probably given it 8,5/10. Unfortunately the ending part from me is such a horribly, disgustingly, terrible slap in the face. I give that part a 1/10, only because I cannot go any lower. Overall 5/10. Supreme disappointment. My words can't even describe how sick I feel even thinking about it.
A terrible shame and stain on the Doctor Who show. Worst episode I've ever seen of TV in my life.

I really was disappointed in this finale, like it ruins the series for me. I think the mystery that they built up was the main thing that was saving it for me, but for it to be such a flop payoff, it just isn't good. Like its better than Chibnall era, but that's not exactly high praise really. I wouldn't put it higher than any other series except those 3.

I'm not trying to be negative... but I genuinely can't tell why anyone would have liked this lol. Sutekh seems like an absolute afterthought and is too easily dispensed with, and the deal with Ruby's parents just felt like a wasted opportunity, since every other fan theory seems much more appealing than the reality we were given. That and the plot holes in this episode just make it too hard to enjoy and it really takes away from the suspense of TLORS.

Yeahh the "third act" kind of fell off for me and got me slightly (and I mean slightly) worried about RTD's writing. As this was his weakest finale yet, BUT I really liked this episode. So I'm neutral atm. Left with more questions, but at least there was an happy ish ending.
