A symphony only recently discovered. Classical music still has its wonderful; surprises. Many thanks for this version.

I programmed this lovely symphony for a tour of Sweden in the 1990s. We were asked NOT to take Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert. The orchestra loved discovering something a bit different.

Magnificent symphony! Had it been written by Beethoven or Schubert, it would have been performed much more frequently for sure. Such a pity that Vorisek died so young.

It is not recently discovered. I have played it as a cellist in my youth orchestra several times in the 90ies, and it was known as the most important czech symphony before Dvorak (besides the much later Václav Jindřich Veit, as we may add today, who is REALLY re-discovered only recently) to everybody interested in Czech music. It was even recorded by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under Thomas Hengelbrock for deutsche harmonia mundi, as well as by the Czech conductor Petr Altrichter with the SWF orchestra for the label arte nova in the 90ies.
