Ultimately, I feel bad for her. Not only did the gold medal ruin her career, she got so much backlash out of it. Her performances aren’t bad, they’re just not gold-medal worthy. At least in my opinion
I used to absolutely agree with this, until I read about the rudeness and arrogance of Adelina Sotnikova at press conferences. She was apparently acting extremely entitled and cocky so ... shrug. We love you Yuna Kim and we're sorry you got robbed

It was very close because the judges pretty much gave her +3 on GOEs. Technical score for both Sotnikova and Kim was 39 point something. They also inflated her PCS they both received 35 something. It’s a total joke!
To be honest it’s not that bad but there’s a big difference between her and YUNA…
And Between her and Kostner, and Mao, and many more.

The scoring scandal really buried Adelina's career, which is such shame. I use to be so annoyed she beat Yuna (I still firmly believe Yuna should have won), but now I just think this is sad that this actually very talented young girl, who put out two fantastic (but not gold medal) performances, became the target of international hatred. If she hadn't won I believe she could have stayed in the sport for much longer.
Absolutely!!!! Finally someone has said it. Although her jumps came off the wrong edge with pre rotation, look at the size of them!!! I actually thought she did a quad the first time I watched this since I wasn’t paying close attention. She was so extremely talented, just had a few rough edges that needed to be fixed, she could have gone on to be world champion or even maybe Olympic champion in 2018, who knows. but her career was very abruptly and forcefully taken away from her at such a young age. And look how much she was smiling here, it looked like she was just having so much fun and was loving being on the ice. So sad

Not to mention her artistry is not bad at all ,she was young and it's normal to have juniorish ss and body movements (people like kim and Asada who born with artistry skills are rare ) even carolina was very juniorish at the same age yet Adelina had such fire and understanding of music that she showed it with her facial expression, people here are very baised.
And it looked like she was having a lot of fun during this performance.

Sotnikova’s win was made by Russia only for Sochi. She doesn’t have any remarkable programs or scores at all.

Here’s the thing, it wasn’t bad. It was youthful and showed great promise. Her expression is lovely and she clearly feels the music. As well, her jumps are high and powerful. She should have gone on to be great. By holding her up and gifting her the win, the judges and federation did her no favours. They essentially ruined her career. And for what? Everyone knows Russia plays dirty and this didn’t deserve the win. It’s shameful for so many reasons.
Your comment is so on point! I mean her skating is not Gold material nor a podium finish one, but I'll give that to her that she can still improve and do have that potential. Russian federation did her bad (as well as all the skaters that was underscored) and those people who conspired to let her win. People will really remember Sotnikova as a fraud winner, Rusfed kinda ruined her career because of her win.
But I also think the reason people hates on Sotnikova is that after her win, her sportsmanship is just plain rude 😭 like on interviews she disrespected Yuna several times, so I think more than the stolen gold people will also remember her as someone disrespecting Yuna and plain rude. Though again, the main problem is Russian federation cheating (I mean even now Russian ladies can actually skate but they are still overscoring them, I feel bad for present skaters as well that deserve fair scoring in today's competetions).

It's a great short program with lots of speed, great spins and big jumps but the combination was only 3T-3T when Yuna did 3ltz-3t and Carolina did 3Flip-3T, more difficult combinations, and it didn't have the same edge quality of Carolina and Yuna. She should have been behind Kostner too in the short with a score around 70-72.
it should've been 1) Yuna Kim, 2) Carolina Kostner, 3) Gracie Gold, 4) Adelina Sotnikova. During 2014, there was a viral video on TH-cam of leaked camera footage showing Adelina hugging one of the Olympic Board members after the long program performances with Gracie witnessing it.

The 2014 Olympic year was a huge doping scandal itself. So many athletes used doping and faked their blood results through the famous FSB-covered Sochi laboratory lol. I wouldn't trust any Russian gold medalist from that year.

Yuna jumped 3lutz-3toe(the hardest triple combination) whereas Sot jumped 3toe-3toe(easiest combination that even junior skaters rarely jump)…and their score was same 74. Yuna’s steps were level3 and Sot’s were all level4(Only 2 russion skaters got level4 in both steps. Were russion skater’s steps that better than all the others??) Sot was the only skater who was not downgraded jumping Fluts(=Wrong jump, Lutz jumping inside edge.) All other skaters were downgraded. I don’t even know when I can finish criticizing all. Those were just major major problems.
The hardest triple combination(besides the extreme things like Ilia Malinin’s 3lz-3a) is a 3lz-3lo, which is what 2018 OGM Alina Zagitova had

Oh, she skate well but this score with 3T+3T. Shame on you, judges.
It was a fabulous routine. A lot of it was quite stunning. Her jumps are actually better than I remember. Yuna was still superior...timeless...yeah, I'd still take Yuna over her, but not by much.
