    The book, “Ty Cobb A Terrible Beauty” by Charles Leerhsen, is an absolute must read. The book sets the record straight after he was and still is slandered by other authors and the general public. It also gives great insight to the game during that era. Fascinating book.

      We have another video we are working on with a ton of pictures we colorized and they really turned out fantastic. A lot of them are with charities and children, reunions and other situations they breaks down some of the tropes about him as well.

    I know it's just one interview but Cobb doesn't seem like the monster that the media has long portrayed him as...

      Much of the negative manner in which history has treated Ty Cobb is due to the false and defamatory biography written by Al Stump. It is the book on which the movie "Cobb" is based. If you're interested in reading about how Stump maliciously defamed Cobb the whole story is out there to read. Stump was a dishonest and despicable man.

    • @el_kabong

      The book written about him by Stump was essentially fiction. Complex man to be sure but no more a product of his time than any other man.

    My grandfather used to hunt quail with Ty Cobb at Magruder. He said Ty was the meanest man he ever knew. My grandfather got along with him fine but he said Ty didn't put up with anything he didn't like from anyone. They hunted in the winters when Cobb was still playing and after. He said Cobb wore heavy boots and ankle weights almost every day to make his legs stronger so he would be faster on the field.

      Al Stump’s “biography” was one of the worst contributors to the lies perpetrated about Cobb. Many of the outright fabrications of his book has been refuted, but the public typically ignores fact, in favor of drama. Tragic. Edit: And I’m not even discussing the idiotic movie “Cobb”.

      Goes to show just how long journalism has been a cesspool of shameless, pigs…. The part that has me scratching a hole in my head is…is how people listen to these corrupt, dishonest, shameless, trash to this very day. Ken Burns’ documentaries are being shown to this day. I’d like to think that people are finally learning to do their research, and learning to think for themselves, but you can never underestimate the jaw-dropping stupidity of human beings.

    Say what you want about Cobb. You cannot dispute his batting average that no one ever surpassed. I’d want him on my side in a ball game, in a fight, in any situation that was a must win, because you knew he would never back down from a fight and would always find a way to win. Yes he was a badass and badasses offend many people and make many enemies, but I can’t help but admire his fighting spirit, a spirit that reminds me of another man. Ty Cobb was to baseball what George S. Patton was to war - a brilliant and controversial warrior.

    You think nearly 100 years later, that this guy could hold his own against modern day pitchers?

    • @TheBreakBrothers
      @TheBreakBrothers  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I would think he’d still be a tough out, even today. He was a career .366 hitter, over 24 years. 4191 hits. And he faced some of the greatest pitchers ever, including Cy Young. Ichiro with an attitude.

    • @Gearjammer5150
      @Gearjammer5150 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Cobb hit .366 against Walter Johnson, who was considered the fastest pitcher of his era and probably threw around 95 mph. He'd have no trouble adjusting to another 5 mph. The one issue he would have is that pitchers would have much more advanced scouting reports and any tiny weaknesses in his swing would be exploited. I agree with the Break Brothers, he'd put up Ichiro-esque numbers.

    How much of the hatred directed at this man has been due to all the retconning of his life by woke sportswriters who needed to boil all the injustice they wanted to portray and write and talk about into the actions of one whipping boy for their sermons? On the field, he was a take no prisoners hardass and easy to hate if you weren't a Detroit Tigers fan. Off the field, he was no saint, but he was a product of his time like everyone else. I despise presentism. Isn't it funny how everybody suddenly wants to turn it off on D-Day?

    His dog loved him. Ty Cobb might have even fed it. Ty Cobb allowed the dog hairs to get on his nice suit. Why the Laurel and Hardy assinine music in the background? Ty Cobb was a nasty man. Base running, if he was going to be tagged out, he would run hard into the defender and knock the defender down.
