This is fantastic. I already have my people grouped by shared matched and labelled. I have 5 uncles that I am going to use this to try and merge data into file. Thank you so much!
This is fantastic, thank you, what a massive help. Someone else has asked if it's possible to do this using Ancestry groups? And can the formulae be copied to work for more than 100? I've been spending days (!) recently doing this manually for a large subset of over 200 matches who are mostly all connected to each other and to me/my Dad via a mystery great grandfather... Bit of a monster of an excel spreadsheet! Now I can face making sense out of the top 100 matches for all the kits I manage :) EDIT: had a thought re the Ancestry groups - it should work to a certain extent if I've got the matches of matches all labelled, lots more fun to be had! Am loving this tool already.
I couldn't understand why I was having a few issues until I noticed that I was still using a copy of the Master version 1.14 Skills dated 18 June 2024. When I downloaded and made a copy of version 1.02.Master last updated: 26 October 2024, checked box C1 on the "My Top 100 Matches tab and filled in my name in B1, many of the issues I had melted away. But I'm now seeing Column AM prepopulated with "False" that doesn't get overwritten with "Common Ancestor" for those that do have Common Ancestors. Also, my groups in Column AO are being called out by their color names in parenthesis. Any help for what I might still be doing wrong is appreciated. Families Are Complicated!!!
I love the automatic "My Shared cM" tab! Could you provide a little more detail on isolating the clusters? What did you mean by " I'll move onto the next match that isn't already in one of the previous groups"? I really can't see what makes Alex "inside the second cousins group..." and therefore not the next sort...Help!?
HI there Jeri. What I was doing was visually clustering the matches of matches together, starting with the first one, and then grabbing any that are closely related (by the colour coding and number of cMs). Then, moved onto the next person, and grabbed their closest matches. Some may not have any close matches, so will stand solo (for now). It's also possible I skipped over Alex since he doesn't have a lot of super close matches, and moved onto one that had more, which was more dramatic to demonstrate. Hope that helps.
Hi, this is fantastic thank you. The only problem I have is that even though I put the ?itemsperpage=50 as advised in the new tab, it doesn't change it so I can only copy and paste the first 20 into the shared matches tab. Can I repeat the process for page 2 or will that not work? Thanks
the parameter itemsPerPage is case sensitive, so that could be the issue. Sometimes what I do is to click the button at the bottom to change from 20 per page to 50 per page - then you'll see the exact syntax, and then change that to 100, The same parameter (itemsPerPage) works on both the initial DNA Matches page as well as on the Shared Matches of Matches page. (but only with values 20, 50, or 100, no other values seem to work)
Ok so I tried that and it didn't work BUT i noticed that the wording in the URL is slightly different, so I copied and pasted the following to the end of the line after matchesofmatches: ?currentPage=1&itemsPerPage=100. I dont know whether it is because I am on the UK site but hey presto it worked. Hopefully someone else in UK might be able to use this method.

Thank you Greg. I have learned a lot using this tool. Wonder how it can be used for Ancestry groups. That is, a group of matches that you have identified as belonging to one part of your family tree.
If you have a group of matches identified by assigning them a coloured dot / group, then filter by that group. Then, use THAT list of DNA Matches for your first step to populate the "My 100 Top Matches" tab, and then go from there (using only the people in that group to find their Shared Matches of Matches). You'll definitely want a separate copy of the spreadsheet for that specific group, but you can always grab a fresh one from the Master Copy.
Felt victorious when everything worked just fine up til...clustering. I understand the concept but had trouble following the steps (and the reasons behind which cousins are selected, and when). Will rewatch for the 10th time and try to make it all make sense. I do realize this is a 'me' problem. Regardless, thank you for a wonderful research tool.
I am also struggling with the clustering. I might have to refer back to the basic steps for the Leeds method, so I can apply the logic to the spreadsheet.
Is this similar to the Leeds Method? Yours obviously seems to be easier since it's all automated vs. having to type everyone into an Excel spreadsheet which I did years ago.
I'm looking forward to using this spreadsheet, but when I change the url on the shared matches page, i.e., ?itemsPerPage=50, and refresh, it does not change the number of shared matches displayed, so now I'm stuck. Any suggestions?
Finally got the appended url to work. After typing in ?itemsPerPage=50, Google was changing the text to lower case, so I copied and pasted the syntax from the Ancestry DNA matches url, ?itemsPerPage=50¤tPage=1, and that worked.
Thanks for all the hard work you have put into this spreadsheet. Unfortunately I am also having a problem with it. The "name column" is not populating names but relationships. The names are falling under "notes". I am not sure how to fix this.
So I am working on a Mac and I don't think that should really affect the formulas, but what I have discovered is that the formulas for Name Column and Relationships are reversed. Not sure why that happened but I went through and corrected each one and now the names are in the name column and the relationships are in the relationship column. By the way I am only working with 6 names until I get this figured out. Everything is working ok now until I get to the Shared Matches and the cM are not entering correctly. If I can figure it out will let you know
Unfortunately, I am also getting the relationship data in the name column when doing the raw data paste. Looks like this would be a great tool when it gets sorted out.
If I use the old raw data tab, the macro picks up the relationship data and places it in the proper column, but now puts nothing in the name column. I do have Pro tools and should be at the current version.

I have cleared all data I've removed duplicated names in the comments section, I'm on the new 2024 version of Ancestry matches , I just don't know what else to do. Can anyone help please.

If I fgure out what it is I will leave a comment. This is an exceptional spreadsheet and a real improvement to the shared match feature of Ancestry so hopefully I can get this to work. Even if it doesn't work perfectly, it will make a great shared match template for hand entry.
I figured it out. If in a comment I mentioned a match, the parsing formula picks up the name. To fix on some of the pastes I just went down and deleted all the comments in the raw data paste. Comments are not ian issue in the OLD Raw Data paste (I'm still not converted). Many times in the comments I mention the relationship between two maches to each other so that's why I am picking these up.
I found another little bug. Again fairly minor. I have two matches in one test managed my others with the same two initials. In the paste raw shared step the second JB got populated by the 7440 but no big deal. Just deleted. The two matches don't match each other so I can't see if there are further problems. What could be the problem?
I am having the very same problem. Going into the first match shared matches, copying and pasting into A7 on the shared raw data tab and nothing happens in Column T.
For anyone having issues with pasting shared matches data into the 2024 Raw Shared tab (after the first shared match), be sure to select Clear Data first, then after the Script runs to clear the data from your previous match, place your cursor on cell 7A, do Ctrl V, then go up and change the number in cell 3C to the corresponding number for your shared match that you just copied the shared matches from, and then go over and put your cursor on the Row # in Column O for the number you just typed. This will populate Column T with the new shared matches data.

I am still having issues after following your instructions above. No data is populating in column T.
