Pete my buddy has a large machine he used when he was a jewler that he does all the guns in his gunshop with. He said he likes it better then the other sonic stuff. Also he strips the slides since he has night sights and puts the slides in there and cleans them that way.. Never had a issue with it.
@bgomusicco You need thin so that it seeps into all the small cracks and agitates easy. It’s also not really the waves that do the cleaning, the ultrasonic action creates micro bubbles on the surface of the parts that burst and have a scrubbing effect. I use a 1:1 of simple green and distilled water because it’s not a harsh as some other cleaners.
hey man just a thought, you could get little plastic baskets to but in the cleaner to keep all the different gun parts separate so you don't get them mixed up.
I dunno if the bigger ones are different but the Lyman promo shows using one as a cleaner/degreaser and another for lubricant. I guess it would depend how many guns you clean and or how lazy/much cash you have to burn. Also some clothes dryers have a tray you can put in them which you could use to make sure all the residual moisture has evaporated.
Hey Pete... u still use ultrasonic for cleaning your gun parts? if so whats ur mixture these days - simple green / water? Thinking of using it on my AR15 bcg and just wanna make sure before I do it. Thanks.
can you try cleaning range brass in that thing, im not crazy bout puting my gun parts in water but if that will clean range brass up that would b sweet
Lift the basket out after cleaning with all the parts in, then move to another tank of warm clean water and dip the parts in a few times to rinse the last of the crap off, as it will settle in recesses. This is what you were wiping off with your rags! I use a small amount of wetting agent in the rinse water too a few drops (3 or 4) of rubbing alcohol or methylated spirits will work. This reduces the viscosity of the water, good for cleaning water too.
Pete, I am typing this October of 2024 so I know it is not timely as far as when you posted this vid, but..........I tried an RCBS ultrisonic cleaner to try and clean primer pockets in fired rifle and pistol cases. My result : Ultrasonic cleaners are garbage, they do not clean shit. It did not clean the ash residue out of the fired cases nor did it shine the brass at all. Fortunately I was able to take mine back to Cabelas and got my $200 back. What does work wonderfully for cleaning brass to reload is wet tumbling with stainless steel media. I swear this method makes fired brass look 200% better than ' new ' brass. And completely cleans the primer pockets ( of course you have to deprime before you tumble ).
@theARMORYchannel Thanks Brotha. Keep up the great vids.. Going to get my hands on the sonic cleaner soon. Heading to Shot show in a couple weeks.. I'll check out some of the new stuff for cleaning.
@CollegeBoy1990 Pruple Power is corrosive. It has sodium hydroxide in it. As long as you rinsed well with water you shouldn't have any problems. It is a fantastic cleaner. I use it to clean pipes that cryogenic oxygen flows through. It removes 100% of the hydrocarbons and oils that would otherwise cause an explosion if the liquid oxygen contacted any hydrocarbons.
Thanks for the video. I usually just hit with birchwood casey gun scrubber and then oil, but that stuff gets expensive and goes quick. I was looking for an alternative. I guess if you clean a lot of guns at one time would be great and worth the investment. and if saves a lot of time great.
With the two Glock 19's, don't the barrels have serial numbers that match to the slide and the frame? My Glock 22 does. That would avoid any confusion. Looks like a great machine, really cleaned those parts well.
@illusionistpro yeah sense WD-40 = Water Detourant ,40th formula ,invented for firearm purposes ,however the formula changed it used to be mainly made of fish oil and all natural now it should be called WD-41
Not quite sure why you wouldn't clean the barrel a little bit first. Run a bronze brush down the barrel and wipe the outside off. That would only make the cleaner work better? $69 from Harbor Freight for the same Lyman unit for $109...exact same with the only exception being the Lyman logo and the full size basket.
Better test would have been on some brass...pretty easy to tell clean and sparkly brass from dirty brass...and yea certain cleaners are gonna work better for brass than for gun parts
You hear of anyone using purple power for this process? I know my grandpa used to us it all the time at his body shop well i did when washing and detailing cars breaks the the residue left on your rims from break pad like nothing. However I do believer there are certain metals that they tell you not to use it on but I can't remember what they are.
great vid, try this recipe. 1 ltr water, 1 cup white viniger, 1 tablespoon of a good quality dishwashing liquid, if needed add a spoon of salt, run in warm water, rinse in bucket of warm water for 15 min, add a little bicarb /baking soda to neutralise the viniger if needed this one is great on heavy soiled gun bits and brilliant on brass, another simple one is just add the dishwashing liquid to water the machine will do the rest. then dry everything and put in a lubricating solution from lymans or brownells and turn on the machi e get every part lubed ans of course clean off the excess. just saying it works for me, try don't try its only a suggestion. Shoot well.
Great vid Pete! Is it just me or did everybody cringe when you dropped all the parts in water? I'm sure it's fine but I'm too chicken shit to do it! Happy and safe new year to you and your family Pete!
Will that thing work with something other than water as a base? Alcohol maybe? That wouldn't rust things I don't think, and even if it does just take the worst off and the rest will evaporate extremely quickly.
Jesus that guys 45 barrel was filthy! Ive never let any of my guns get that dirty... and ive fired some of them thousands of times! Of course i clean em after every firing session :-)
Pete, Just watched a video on a guy with a home made recipe that works even better than the Lyman gun parts cleaner. In the video he is cleaning cases, but it cleans inside the cases just as well as the outside. Not many cleaners will do that. I can't post a link here, but do a TH-cam search for "Homemade Ultrasonic Solution for Reloading" and it's by a guy called PilotWithAGun. I'm going to give it a try as well. Much cheaper than
dude try Purple Power , I use it in every thing I used to free up stuck valves on a Lincoln that hadn't ran in 20 years, its the best degreaser in the world just DONT GET IT IN YOUR EYES ,and try not to spray it it will take your breath like mustard gas
Glock barrels have a serial number on them. All you have to do is match the barrel serial number to the corresponding frame. It's MAGIC!
Pete my buddy has a large machine he used when he was a jewler that he does all the guns in his gunshop with. He said he likes it better then the other sonic stuff. Also he strips the slides since he has night sights and puts the slides in there and cleans them that way.. Never had a issue with it.

They work great for Anything you can fit in them, I like put trigger assembly in them, works great on the ones that are hard to clean with a brush
You have a bad ass cleaning setup Pete. Nice of you to clean your buddy's guns too.
I use Simple Green Aircraft parts cleaner. Works wonders on my guns and also on my motorcycle/lawn mower carbs.
hey man
just a thought, you could get little plastic baskets to but in the cleaner to keep all the different gun parts separate so you don't get them mixed up.
You're pushing more and more towards Ultrasonic cleaners and I only have a single pistol (maybe two soon)!
A friend that cleans guns! Why can't I be so lucky!?! I would definitely make more trips to the range.
Hornady has a nice cleaner for gun parts. When I get one of these I will try that will my barrels.
Hey Pete... u still use ultrasonic for cleaning your gun parts? if so whats ur mixture these days - simple green / water? Thinking of using it on my AR15 bcg and just wanna make sure before I do it. Thanks.
How would running them through it a 3rd time with clean water for like a final rinse. Do you think that would be an issue.
Cool vid. Very seriously considering buying one of these things right now. Question: How do you clean the cleaner itself?
@rogerpemberton why caused i hand dried them ? dude this thing saved my over and hour worth of work ok
I've heard you can also use mineral spirits to really leave it clean and if you run it through twice it would be even cleaner.
HI Pete
I wonder if Hoppes #9 would work better than 409? Overall, this looks like a good solution after a long day on the range.
Looks like a good addition to any workshop !
Thanks for the cleaning video. Not sure I would use an ultrasonic cleaner because I have a thing about putting my guns or gun parts in water.
Isopropyl alcohol works for me in the sonic cleanner. Mine is smaller so I just add a splash to the water.
and how was the rifling? In the video it looks theres still fouling in there but hard to tell
+notafraid06 seems like only the outside parts get clean. i dont know the ultrasonic waves can pass through the steel to the inside.
Cool, Ive been wondering how well they worked. Since having it awhile now...what have you found that works best.
can you try cleaning range brass in that thing, im not crazy bout puting my gun parts in water but if that will clean range brass up that would b sweet
how much do you charge to clean handguns and long guns?
last time i checked pete, the more dense the material the better sound travels through it..
imagine how clean they would have been, if you'd have actually turned the heat on, lol!
@SHWELL11 no theres no rinsing just let them air dry
Hey Pete try pouring a little Ballistol in the machine when cleaning. It should work, it is not to thick.
idk if it's been said yet but the barrels have S/N's as do the frames, so you cant mix them up.

HEy pete hows the sonic cleaner working so far ?
Pete if I skip the ad at the start of your vids do you still make money?
What man has another clean his guns?
a man that has to clean a fuck ton a guns.... i like how it looks. im going to buy it :)
Could you show us how it cleans spent brass for us reloaders?
Pete, I am typing this October of 2024 so I know it is not timely as far as when you posted this vid, but..........I tried an RCBS ultrisonic cleaner to try and clean primer pockets in fired rifle and pistol cases. You can buy the same exact cleaner minus the Lyman name for half the price on amazon. works great
@txmalcontent thanks man
@PatriotNotGovernment lol thanks
Interesting product for sure. thanks for sharing. Happy New Year to you and your subs!!!
Pete, here is an idea. Try throwing your wire brushes and bore wires in this machine and it will clean them too.
Thanks for the video. I usually just hit with birchwood casey gun scrubber and then oil, but that stuff gets expensive and goes quick. I was looking for an alternative. I guess if you clean a lot of guns at one time would be great and worth the investment. and if saves a lot of time great.

I'm curious as to how it cleans brass.
@illusionistpro yeah sense WD-40 = Water Detourant ,40th formula ,invented for firearm purposes ,however the formula changed it used to be mainly made of fish oil and all natural now it should be called WD-41

Ever have any issues with the Bluing?
Looks like it dose the job how expensive are these tho?
Pete, I understand you trying this out and all, but with someone elses guns? You got more balls than i do brother.
Awesome demo I might have to pick up one of those jewels
Better test would have been on some brass...pretty easy to tell clean and sparkly brass from dirty brass...and yea certain cleaners are gonna work better for brass than for gun parts
480 seconds, the longest 4 minutes EVER!
You hear of anyone using purple power for this process? @SoloPrepper I THINK YOUR RIGHT
Didn't like unit but would try it with ballistol, maybe that would work better.
Great vid Pete! Is it just me or did everybody cringe when you dropped all the parts in water? I'm sure it's fine but I'm too chicken shit to do it! Happy and safe new year to you and your family Pete!
try using the ballistol concentrate for the cleaner
@2Bad4u999 VERY TRUE
Of course i clean em after every firing session :-)
use it to clean your used brass ? like the hornady sonic ?
wolfman011000 I
@johniac7078 shit i didn't even think of that! great point man thanks!!
that's all i use for my hk vp9 frame as it would be a major task to completely disassemble it. kudos to glock and sig for takedown simplicity.

@069751 i wasn't feeling to well in this one.
@theARMORYchannel Good Goal keeping is key. But the B's have been scoring like crazy. let get tickets for the winter classic!!!!
Dude why so concerned with mixing barrels, they have a serial #, the frame and slide also have a #, you can easily read them and make sure you match
@thatguy66ish well im gonna get the gun solution today
The more parts you put in your cleaner, the longer you have to let it run to get the desired result.
I didnt read the other comments, but you def used more than a couple caps full.. Extra extra clean... I measure in SHOTS as in, Shot glasses.. lol
@achigurh no cause you dont have the waves
@theARMORYchannel then why is it if you shoot a gun underwater the shockwave can cause internal damage and above water your fine
Haha that thing did awesome. Now I have to pick one up to try it out.
that IS pretty fkn good! Might have to pick one of those up. But i dont get why you wouldnt maintain your own firearms.
@halodudJ117 i did work good cause its too thick
that 1911 makes my pants grow
u can get these same sonic cleaners on ebay for $60-$65.... different name but its the same thing. all made in china....
its too thick u have to use a watery grease cutter
Another great video to get me thrue the day at work
You didnt turn on the heater first, you set the cleaning cycle. Put hot tap water in first, then turn on the heater (tc)
Why can't you use ballistol in there?
dude try Purple Power , I use it in every thing I used to free up stuck valves on a Lincoln that hadn't ran in 20 years, its the best degreaser in the world just DONT GET IT IN YOUR EYES ,and try not to spray it it will take your breath like mustard gas
@bgomusicco nope 100% wrong the thinner the better
great vid and channel , i just bought one of those to clean my brass
@556DOS45 he might have use cheap ammo
try oneshot by hornady that what they use for there cleaner thing its works great
@theArmorychannel The Wild had the best record in the NHL. I feel your pain. Last night was 8 loses in a row.
try using distilled vinegar.
@4nick8ter 125.00
OK, I should have waited til the end you mentioned why no ballistol...
Use Simple Green Ultra...it's safe for metals..not regular simple green
fill it with some homemade ed's red, disassemble and run it all for like 8 cycles.
@theARMORYchannel Yeah ur right pete. If u drop a marbel in water ur gonna get more ripples than if u dropped one in syrup : )
Careful as Simple Green will ruin anything aluminum.
Who has someone else take care of their guns for them?
Nancy does.
I hate to tell you but you just cleaned all the parts by hand........
I need one of these
Instead of warning it for 8 Mins, in this case 4mins can't you just put warm water in
