    This is the most useful video on TH-cam for the Dodge New Venture 4500 transmission. Thanks for posting this detailed, “How to...” video!

    As many other folks have said, thank you so very much for your video series on rebuilding this transmission. I've always wanted to do something like this, but things I see here on your videos, you just can't comprehend when read in a book. Thank you!

    Huge thanks for your videos, I just rebuilt a 4500 using your videos only and it took me roughly 3 hours. Not bad for the 3rd trans iv ever built!
    Great job buddy!

    I'm in the middle of this repair right now. Thank you so much for these videos, as they are invaluable. I have a '95 one ton Dodge with the V10. I bought the truck new. It upshifted and downshifted fine except for 1st gear. While it would downshift fine into 1st, it would violently throw itself into neutral. I haven't gotten down to 1st gear yet, but I see no gap in the synco. I expect to see more problems. That locking collar on the end of the shaft was finger tight....I bought the bullet there. I do see some wear on 5th gear just like in your video; both on the shaft and inside the gear. At the very least I want to replace that gear and maybe find a better locking collar. I don't know if I can afford the newer shaft design and I definitely don't want an aftermarket shaft made in China. All the gears and the counter shaft gears look very pristine....no play in either shaft. I guess it paid over the yrs to keep changing out the gear lube with good synthetic.

    Snap rings / lock rings are Tapered so that you can get a hold of them with your snap ring pliers or lock ring pliers to remove them. Putting the sharp edges down it’s gonna be really hard to get a grip on those without your lock ring pliers sliding off

    Sorry for the dumb question, but I've got a nv4500 from a chevy and I have no low gear. At all. Won't even shift into low with engine off. I'm planning on rebuilding the transmission anyways but would a worn out synchronizer cause that? Love the videos by the way, pretty much shows a step by step rebuild

    In reference to the snap ring looking beveled; its more than likely beveled from the method used to create that gap. More than likely that snap ring started out as a complete circle, next step would have been to cut or notch out the small amount of metal, probably done so in a shearing action which causes the snap ring to look beveled.

    Did you just buy a rebuild kit? If so which one did you get and does it come with literature?

    • @groutaone
      @groutaone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes I bought one off Ebay, no information with it just parts, some kits are more complete than others, I ended up buying more than one kit with different parts, buying the most complete kit I think would be best

    Very impressive!
    Question I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 2WD with 5 speed NV4500. It has a low gear then 1 - 4 speed and reverse. The truck pulls like a crazy horse but will not run over 78 mph and fuel consumption is poor because of the low gear in the transmission. I have changed the rear ended from 4:10 to 3:55 made just a bit of difference. Can I change the low gear to just a first gear?

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      just pull away in 2nd if the truck is empty, 1st gear is really only for steep slopes or hauling especially if you have 4.10s and stock tires youre barely moving in 1st

    Thanks so much for the information you have given me the confidence to do mine on my own. But I was wondering how to do 5th fear you didn’t show much on that??

  • @SmudgyContent

    Can’t get shaft back in the case, trying to prevent the 5th gear mishap. It’s not much like maybe 4-5milmeterz I need, about ready to tap it in with a hammer 🔨

    Whoever has to work on that trans in the future is going to be pissed at you. You are putting those snap rings on upside down. The bevel is there to allow grip of the snap ring pliers. With the way you installed the ring, the pliers will keep sliding off.
