Thank you for this. I have quite a wide pillar, 300mm, mounting inside would look not great and would be a tight fit for the car. So externally mounted will be the way to go for me. Could you tell me the dimensions of the box the roller goes into please?
Are these any less compromised from a security perspective with the door frame/box being mounted on the outside? I think this is the only option for me but am (perhaps wrongly) thinking this is somehow less secure.
I would assume it must be. You would have to somehow remove it from where it is bolted into the wall though. I have to be honest. Security was not my aim with this so I didn’t ask those questions.
Fantastic solution. Exactly what I also require. Tried the link you posted but couldn’t get the right details. Do you have your garage man’s direct number / details please ? Great help this video thank you 🙏
I have a very similar problem with protruding wooden frame. I am very impressed with this installation. What make and model is this door? and secondly how do you open the door in the event of a power cut? Thank you for posting your excellent video.
Hi, if the door fails there is a cap you remove on the underside of the white metal box that houses the roller and a winding pole that you use to manually raise and lower the door. Not sure on the brand as ‘Essex roller doors’ (essexrollerdoors.co.uk) don’t state the manufacturer. Their service was spot on and the instillation as you say is very good indeed.
Cheers. The door cost just over £1500 all in and that includes around £200 for a 5 year warranty. The company I used is linked below. essexrollerdoors.co.uk
This is the EXACT dilemma I have. Couldn't think of any solutions, until this video... Absolutely brilliant. How is the box holding up since its mounted outside? Any issues with water etc? Thanks mate
Nope. Completely water tight. No issues at all. It is designed to be external like the ones on shop fronts. I can’t say enough how much of a difference it has made.
Exactly. We currently have very drafty wooden doors fitted externally, and we are massively limited with depth of garage as it's been partitioned. I can fit my bike in there currently, however if we fit an internal roller door then it wouldn't fit. I've already gone on a few websites to get some quotes and ask if they fit external electric doors. Thanks again bud 👍
@@andrewl4878 sorry for being dim. Are you literally referring to the number of horizontal slats? What difference does it make? I can count if that helps but will only be a count of the visible slats.
@@wheelsandwatches No, it is the width of the individual slat so there are narrower 55mm slats and bigger 77mm slats. There would be less slats if 77mm and this apparently makes the door stronger/more secure especially if very wide.
Great stuff. I have a similar issue but mine is that my garage is 11cm too short with the up and over to fit my car. If mounted externally, I'd get an extra 30cm, so could get the car out of the rusting sea air! I'm tempted to fit it myself, as it doesnt look that complicated. Did the company you use have any issues? Btw, it looks great! Congrats!
I'd suggest a small carpet off cut or even an old towel to protect the coiled cable from rubbing on the wall......the tape won't last long.
I would put a 50 x 50 pvc angle trim floor to ceiling instead of tape

It has been a game changer for me.
8 inches tall, 8 inches deep and 95 inches long.
Great stuff. Very interested in this solution. Could I be cheeky and ask what it set you back? Just a ballpark figure would help. Many thanks.
Not a problem at all. It cost £1520 and that includes £120 for a 5 year warranty.
@@wheelsandwatches Much appreciated. All the best 👍
Lovely door, that’s what I’m looking to do with the externally mounted one option, how much was it all price wise all in,fitting and door
It was around £1500 👍

I’ll update the link. This is the company I used. It has made a significant difference 😃

@@wheelsandwatches it looks like a hormann roller door but I don't know if they make their own in the exact same style
Very interesting and informative video. Now I want one but how much did it cost and what make of door did you buy? 😀

Problem is the doors are very flimsy, you can push your way into the garage without any tools, alarm or no alarm system.
This is significantly more secure than the up and over I had before it. They would have to lever the frame off the wall to gain entry.
Hi just seen an ad for these, my immediate question. How secure are these, could they be broken into easily?
I was told very secure. More secure than a standard up and over garage.
Literally 30seconds to open this door you might as well leave it open mate
Is it still working 2 years on
It is indeed. No problems at all. If you research them and buy from a decent company they are very reliable.

Great vid! 55 or 77 slats?
I have no idea!
Yeah, really good video. I’d be interested to know the slat size too as I am deciding between 55 or 77 and yours looks great!

@@andrewl4878 they are 55mm slats.
Aren’t the slats the wrong way around ?
Not for this style of door, no.
yes they are, the door is fitted back to front. This is utterly tragic......
It is the same implementation used for shop frontages. So the slats are reversed.

Hi, they had no issues at all. I used Essex roller doors.
How wide is your opening?
Not sure, it’s a standard single. They came and measured it to ensure the correct door was chosen. I can measure it if that helps you in some way.
@@wheelsandwatches if you could mate?
It’s 90 inches wide at the opening and 104 inches wide internally. Hope that helps.
@@wheelsandwatches great thanks
