This is a great addition. Unfortunately, my 2000 95 has no functions (besides looking rearward, hahaha) so I have no clue what the process would be to even get autodim, let alone compass. Thanks for all the fantastic videos!
Ezra B There is a way to add power so you can, by tapping into the power from the sunroof switch. Read more here and see if it something you'd even attempt. Auto dim alone is worth it! photo.platonoff.com/Auto/20071007.Saab_9-5_Auto-Dimming_Rear_View_Mirror/
Great video. However, the older Saab's have three wires feed up into the roof cavity, but the newer Saabs that this mirror comes from have 5 wires. I'm not sure what won't work. It is likely that the older cars don't have the dimming exterior rear view mirrors.
Andrew Aliferis They do not. However, the majority of those additional wires as I understand are for disabling Auto-Dim in reverse gear. Which is a negligible feature
@@saabross3171 Hey Saab Ross. I realize this video is from years ago. My Saab has a plane Jane mirror too. I have a spare mirror with homelink. Any pointers? Edit: Nevermind! I saw your link below that you replied to someone else. Now I have something to do this weekend!
@@hausmeisterengineering5952 Best of luck! It's a pretty easy swap. Honestly I just love having the compass feature; I did a seperare tutorial on how to calibrate it but never uploaded here. If you have any questions lemme know!
I would like to add that autodim mirror to the car that did not have one before. So I guess I would need to know what the rest of the wires are there, apart from + and - EDIT: Found this, means basically if reverse un-dim and side dimming is not needed (installed), you really need only red + and black -. 1 Grey: dimming control for LH door mirror 2 Blue: dimming control for RH door mirror 3 Green: reverse un-dim 5 Red: +12V (ignition feed) 8 Black: ground
Peter Chomanič Thanks for clarifying, for purposes of swapping a mirror that already has Auto dim this video was strictly how to add Compass/Homelink. However there are great resources out there, here's where I started reading: photo.platonoff.com/Auto/20071007.Saab_9-5_Auto-Dimming_Rear_View_Mirror/

Thanks, I just installed dimming mirror in my OG 9-3 and it works great.
Are you familiar with upgrading a 9-5 that doesn't have auto-dimming to an auto-dimming mirror?
