Old Airport Road Hawker Centre is one of Singapore’s most beloved and historic food centres. Located at Block 51 Old Airport Road, near the Geylang area, it has been serving delicious local fare since 1973.
History and Significance
The hawker centre was established to resettle street hawkers from the Kallang Estate area. It is named after the nearby Kallang Airport, Singapore’s first civilian airport, which ceased operations in 1955. Despite its age, the centre remains a bustling hub for food lovers, offering a wide variety of affordable and authentic local dishes.
Popular Stalls and Dishes
Old Airport Road Hawker Centre is home to over 150 stalls, many of which have gained a loyal following. Here are some must-try stalls:
Western Barbeque: Known for its garlic sauce and delicious grilled meats like pork chop and lamb chop.
Xiang Ji Lor Mee: Famous for its thick, flavorful gravy and generous toppings.
Dong Ji Fried Kway Teow: Offers a spicy and well-coated char kway teow with a perfect wok hei.
Wen Wen Pork Rib Big Prawn Mee: Known for its robust seafood hotpot, featuring a variety of seafood and meats.
Freshly Made Chee Cheong Fun: Offers delicate, silky rice sheets with various fillings, perfect for breakfast.
Accessibility and Atmosphere
The hawker centre is easily accessible via the Mountbatten and Dakota MRT stations. It operates daily from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM, making it a convenient spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, especially during meal times, as locals and tourists alike flock to enjoy the diverse culinary offerings.
Cultural Experience
Visiting Old Airport Road Hawker Centre is not just about the food; it’s also a cultural experience. The centre reflects Singapore’s rich hawker heritage and offers a glimpse into the daily lives of its residents. Still very crowded indeed, I thought renovation expands the size of the Hawker Centre? Still looks the same to me, just newer with fresh coat of paint and the food price more expensive now. Wondering what they renovate, which took up to 3 months long?
😢😢😢
Our pay and pay 4G leaders 😢 silent policies of artificially boosting our ever higher costs of living 🥶🤢🤮🤮🤕🤕🤕
First hdb flats ridiculous high prices now hawkers food ….
Transportation & basic utilities like water, gasoline electricity….kept going up but mrt still kaput😢😢😢
Even our youngsters salaries are not even catching up at all….
Pity our younger generations ….😢😢😢
Nice sharing..thank you. watching live here
Thanks for your support 👍❤️
Thanx for the updates
Thanks for watching too❤️👍
个人觉得还是茨园小贩中心较好:宽敞,干净,通风,明亮,座位充足,小贩们都友善。。
Why no charge of architecture design and structure?
Nice good to hear
Hope you have enjoyed. 😊
I commented too … in the other videos… that I hardly see any difference. What was the 4 months’ renovation about ?
Most obvious change is the toilet. No more toilet smell emanating to the stalls.
There are not enough seats during peak hours. How come the planners did not think about this?
After 50 years then renovation. Amazing.hope old timers hawkers didn't run away
Mostly still there 👍
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
👍👍👍
😊❤️
Visited this place yesterday and quite disappointed because a few of my fav stalls were still closed. I spoke to one of them and was told the stall prep is still not ready for business.
Still as messy and cramped as before. You see when people queue at the stall, there’s hardly any walking space?
Plenty food around!
Yay ❤️👍
Huh huh.. finally opened.. good.. tomorrow qiong there
Enjoy 😉👍

The only difference are the new coat of pain on the roof and the installation of big ass fans!
Why did it need so much time to make so little changes?
How come there isn’t any halal stall? Or you chosed not to show in your video?
at 17:52 bro
Still as narrow. Still as dimmed.
No effort has been made to improve the seating arrangement; merely replaced the table tops n seat. New Hi-vol fans are not so effective with low ceilings installations. Only noticeable change is the restrooms n hoping that it stays dry n clean.
I went ydae evening for dinner, still as smoky, as cramped, as messy as before. Obviously, the renovation did not work on improving ventilation. I will not go there again, no appetite to eat in such environment.
Some of this comments are just so funny. Complain about the place being cramped and crowded then go during off peak hours. If it’s messy then just dine at restaurants
10:57 so cramp that wheelchair bounds cannot enjoy 😢 their body language says it all
Should have at least change those tables to rectangular ones!
Round tables take up lots of space making the place looks disorganized and cramp!!
sooo much nostailgia from childhood lol
Hope it’s helpful 😉
still cramped and dark as before .upstair such big space remained as ghost town and downstair narrow and cramped as usual ,poor ventilaion even after reno ,no different
Complete waste of time to renovate this way. Just look at how modern Hawker Centres like Kampung Admiralty and Bukit Canberra. So well designed and windy plus spacious. 😊
Anyone like me? Who feels like walking down so dark alleyways??? Especially that whole stretch behind.... where dirty toilets are & over-piling of unorganized returned trays with shortage of cleaning staff nowhere in sight!!!! And, those dirty & irritating birds everywhere!!!!
For as much as I've to any hawker centre, never ever have I dared go to the toilet!!!!
Government only cares about our airport trying to be top with such clean toilets there but never ever bother about their people in all neighborhoods!!!!!!!!!!
I BET all these so-called "renovation" costs are all beared by the hawkers themselves....
Not a place for lunch on weekends. Overcrowded, overpriced and rude. Maybe the rents have gone up. Only one famous fried Hokkien Mee there worth eating but 3 hour wait so phone in orders if you are really desperate.
Oh please share phone number please
What is the purpose of showing people... people and more people.???... tables and chairs are the same... not wider for wheel chairs to pass through. Where are the old stalls like the famous prawn noodles ( 4 x famous stalls) , hokkien mee stalls, rojak, char kway teow. Just walk around aimlessly and showing people. Can't even see the names of the stall except those you possibly like ...chicken rice, curry rice and nothing about the favourite coffee stalls. This vidwo is a FAILURE ! So what there is painted railings and painted signage. Does these tell us where are the old stalls? Are they back in the same place or moved out? TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED !!!
