Hey, if you're coming back to singapore and more interested to explore more heartland spots rather than the usual touristy food spots, let me know! I don't mind hosting for a private tour for free as a collab!
I love that you guys did both research and keenly observed how locals would order/eat!!😆 That’s actually pretty smart! After watching many vlogs, I realised that a lot of tourists miss out because they didn’t do adequate research nor observe what the locals do…🥺
nice video promoting local street food . more videos like in this in near future . looks tasty and delicious hope to visit there someday and try your country street food .
That 3 coloured drink is basically tea or coffee with evaporated milk and gula melaka (coconut sugar syrup). Coconut syrup is already sweet so that won't be condensed milk as it would have been ultra sweet. Because you ordered teh halia (which means ginger milk tea) and you asked for the 3 colour drink as well, she assumed you wanted the tea option too. Appam is made from fermented rice (hence the sourish taste). That roast stall is super popular. You see people queuing before they open and they are preparing bulk orders behind the shutters lol. The guys are very friendly even to locals :) That soy sauce is usually made the "drippings" of the char siew as they roast and they will add other ingredients.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for all the info! Teh halia is a new favourite, it’s absolutely delicious - we are so pleased we got the tea version of three colour drink, but next time we’ll have to try the coffee one - that also sounds yummy! 😍
try teh halia from indian drinks vendors next time. As theirs would taste stronger and more authentic. Like those at Tekka hawker centre in Little India. You see them using real crushed fresh ginger.@@2Passports1Dream
@@2Passports1Dream adding onto what simplyme3306 said, the tri-colour from evaporated milk and gula melaka mellows out the coffee, so it is perfect for someone who is not too into coffee. Being a mix of culture, we also have other really great drinks (although you might also find it in neighbouring countries) like bandung (rose syrup with evaporated milk) and calamansi (a type of lime) with (preserved) sour plum to name a couple off the top of my head.

just an interesting note for you on why they add milk to the fish beehoon soup, the milk was originally to make the soup look thick and white like its boiled for a long time with fish bones.

Think your last dessert is similar to silken tofu, perhaps sweetened and flavored. I used to make nice desserts from silken tofu , enjoy seems your having a great time. ❤
3 layers should be gula melaka, a type of sugar. Appam, naturally fermented rice flour batter made into pancakes. 😊 come again next time, and visit Some satay store
FYI, if you don't want to wait in line for Tian Tian, then check out Ah Tai. Ah Tai is operated by Tian Tian's ex-chef, who had a falling out with the daughter of Tian Tian's owner when she took over. Some locals like Ah Tai more.
I’m sorry if you have ever answered this question before. You said you are vegetarian but eat fish, do you mean you are a pescatarian. Also recently saw your Australian content and you stayed at the Brady’s hotel 50 meters from my work. Glad you enjoyed Australia 😊
The Vietnamese lady running the appam stall did not know she was applying for a stall designated for Indian food. She had wanted to sell Vietnamese food instead. When she got the stall and was told she was expected to sell Indian food, she was quite dismayed but went out to learn and did very well for herself.
@@kamariahabdrahim6963 There is a certain balance, I think, to be maintained in hawker centres. Certain stalls are reserved for certain foods. Although I do find it strange that in certain hawker centres, there are only one or two stalls selling Malay or Indian food. Not very balanced.
@MelvinSimKH Is this legit? Do you have a fact? Could it be the Vietnamese food that she wants to sell is not permitted in Singapore ( Insects consumption? ) certain foods.Singapore has a stringent regulation on food safety and health. Factsheet On Insect regulatory Framework from Singapore Food Agency.
I just wanted to let you know that some hawker stalls selling Sliced Fish Bee Hoon Soup might ask if you want milk in your dish. If you want, they will add evaporated milk inside. These stalls use the evaporated milk as a shortcut to give the soup a milky appearance. However, there are other stalls that don't add milk. These stalls have the best Fish Soup because they deep fry the meat and the bones, then add water to boil it into a soup. Such a soup has got a milky white colour without the need for milk. I will recommend you to try the Fish Soup from Tang Kay Kee Fish Head Bee Hoon at Hong Lim Market and Hawker Centre. They do their fish soup the deep fry and boil method
I would describe it as seafood-briny. The soup base is usually pre-boiled using bittergourd, fish bones, shaoxing wine, & I think also ginger & scallions. A slice of tomato is usually added during actual cooking, & the fish slices themselves (Batang Fish/Spanish Mackerel) are also mildly sweet & very delicious when fresh. But the resulting broth is not sweet for some customers, & so they would ask to further add evaporated milk. Very flavourful either way, like family-recipe comfort food. I love it with white rice, plus a chilli padi-soy sauce dip as condiment of course.
So difficult to find a good glass of 3 layered tea or coffee in Malaysia not sure about Singapore, white colour usually are condensed milk and the black colour is coconut sugar syrup.
@@2Passports1Dream u should try a few more time but for me the main character in 3 layer tea was the coconut sugar syrup because very few use pure coconut syrup which will have so much flavour in it

Thank you! We purchased some melatonin because our bodies were completely upside down 😂 the worst case of jet lag we’ve had in a LONG time! 😅
Chicken rice chili garlic sauce is the best part of chicken rice. Glad you also tried Char Siew rice
Absolutely delicious food 😍😍
I'm going to SG at the end of February, what was the name of the place where you got the Char Su pork and duck, tried to look thru the comments and couldnt find anything.
The hawker centre is maxwell and the place is called Fu Shun Shao La Mian Jia! Enjoy 😃
@@2Passports1Dream thank you 🙏🏽
Aww I miss Singapore 😢
Aww ❤️ it’s such a wonderful place!

1:24 Adriana says : because its chicken meat, i don't eat meat.
4:48 Shows Adriana eating a slice of fish meat.
🤔.....😲.....🤤....🍜......😋
Hahaha I am pescatarian most of the time in Asia as it’s easier, I meant the rest of meat 😅
U missed a very interesting n important site thats just next to Maxwell Hawker center, the URA City Gallery, about Singapore land use planning, master n concept plan, past, present n future, ..
Safe travels.
Fish soup should added with milk n rice wine delicious 😋🍲
Tea Harlia which is Ginger tea from our Tamil drink stalls
Would recommend to try wobbly dessert like item here in India made from first milk of Cow n Buffalo.
Your pronunciation of Lao Ban is spot on.
Wohoo! 😍
Quiet convenient! Using English is common in Singapore. Felt at home, except very warm all year around. Enjoy!
Oh yes, it’s very welcoming 😍🙏🏼
There's also Apam Balik in Singapore.
Amazing 😍
@@2Passports1Dream In Indonesia its called Martabak Manis or Apam Manis.Manis mean Sweet.
Think your last dessert is similar to silken tofu, perhaps sweetened and flavored. I used to make nice desserts from silken tofu , enjoy seems your having a great time. ❤
Oh yes, so delicious! 😍 I can only imagine how that would incorporate perfectly into desserts! Thank you 🤗 we are!
Welcome to Singapore!
Thank you!! 😍😍
3 layers should be gula melaka, a type of sugar. Appam, naturally fermented rice flour batter made into pancakes. 😊 come again next time, and visit Some satay store
The observation that Appam has a sour (lactic?) taste reminds me of sourdough youtiao/ pancakes. Similar concept.
You need to try Prawn Noodle soup! Its super good
😍😍
FYI, if you don't want to wait in line for Tian Tian, then check out Ah Tai. Ah Tai is operated by Tian Tian's ex-chef, who had a falling out with the daughter of Tian Tian's owner when she took over. Some locals like Ah Tai more.
oooooh interesting, thank you for sharing that!
If the food goes into your mouth, then you're doing it the right way 😂😂😂 you are a star hon🔥
Hahahaha it’s too true 😂😍
Singapore and Malaysia have the most yummy food and its cheap in comparison to Thailand. We need to visit again.
Absolutely fantastic food (although we have to say, Thai food is our all time favourite hah!)
I’m sorry if you have ever answered this question before. You said you are vegetarian but eat fish, do you mean you are a pescatarian. Also recently saw your Australian content and you stayed at the Brady’s hotel 50 meters from my work. Glad you enjoyed Australia 😊
Yes usually pescatarian when in Asia, as a lot of things have fish sauce or seafood in them! 😀 I usually try to have vegetarian when it’s an option! 🥰
The orange colour sauce is garlic chilli sauce fyi.
Delicious 😍
The Vietnamese lady running the appam stall did not know she was applying for a stall designated for Indian food. She had wanted to sell Vietnamese food instead. When she got the stall and was told she was expected to sell Indian food, she was quite dismayed but went out to learn and did very well for herself.
How is that she can't sell vietnamese food? Is there a rule?
Oh that’s so interesting!
Is the soup a little sour ?
Thank you for the information! The milky creamy broth was incredible! Felt like the perfect meal for a sore throat haha 😍
2:14 wow its already 6 dollar for chicken rice ah walawe
So difficult to find a good glass of 3 layered tea or coffee in Malaysia not sure about Singapore, white colour usually are condensed milk and the black colour is coconut sugar syrup.
Hehe it was super yummy in our books, but we have no comparison since it’s our first time trying it! We’d definitely buy it again!
@@2Passports1Dream u should try a few more time but for me the main character in 3 layer tea was the coconut sugar syrup because very few use pure coconut syrup which will have so much flavour in it
one learning Thai and one learning Mandarin can go a very long happy way
Will you come to Thailand?
Definitely!! Soon 😍
You don't actually put the chilli into your food that will be too overwheming. It's actually used as a dip for your chicken or fish.
Hehehe I like it spicy 🌶️
Not true. Its upto indivisual's taste.
Such a shame seeing how many of the hawkers have closed down over the years. Thanks for promoting these guys!
They’re amazing and they really feel like much of the soul of Singapore, from what we’ve experienced! 😍
Happy 2 c u back

Believe me, don't ever rest your utensils on the tray or the table, if you do not want an upset stomach.
The ginger helps remove the fishy smell. 😊
