    While people are talking about there favorite lines in the song. "And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?" So beautifully poetic. Thomas had to see Jesus' hands after He had risen to believe it was really him. If Thomas asks to see your hands at the gates, this could be a metaphor for the sins that are on your hands and if you will be accepted into heaven after Thomas inspects them and considers Jesus' on the cross a proper payment for cleaning your hands. Just beautiful.

    The thing is this song isn't sacrilegious towards Christianity, it more or less is showing how the singer and other people for that matter have their doubts in Jesus being able to save them because they feel so lost in sin that they cannot be saved and redeemed. It also explains how people want to build a relationship with Jesus but don't know how to and as a result will not recognize him when he comes back. What a fantastic song.

    • @7ySayOcean
      @7ySayOcean 8 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      if you actually do some research and not just be a hateful atheist with a personal vendetta on anyone that believes in anything that you believe otherwise, the song is deeper than "religion is bullshit". The singer has religious background when he was a kid and he left it when grew older but still has some sentiments and fears about things. This is a conversation where the narrator is worried about his choices and if everything he believed in was real, would he still be saved. This isn't a shallow hateful song about how religion is bullshit.

    • @eKriZZLe
      @eKriZZLe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Do you not understand that your own bullshit is in the same vein as the other bullshit you're railing against?

      +Joe A. Verage yeah okay, but do they act upon it? Did you get stoned to death? Apparently not so I don't see how what you're saying is relevant. The attitude you're displaying is ignorant. Not every religion is worthy of respect? A) Who are you to pass that judgement. B) What else isn't worthy of respect? Political Beliefs, Sports Teams, Race?
      Smoke a cigarette and calm yourself dude.

    • @Alexj420
      @Alexj420 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      You obviously don't know much about Christianity. I can break it down for you simply, the Old Testament does say things about stoning people that are non-believers, however the Old Testament is only used to show historically how it was before Christ died on the cross. Not to mention God does not exactly enjoy any of those situations. The New Testament is the Gospel that we Christians live by in today's world. Also, the New Testament does not say anything about people being evil just because they do not believe in Christianity. It only merely says that those people are lost and will perish if they do not change their beliefs before Christ returns. Honestly, as Christians it's actually our duty to try to save as many people as we can before it's too late. None of us are perfect or feel above anyone else just because we believe Christ died on the cross for our sins. It does not entitle us to anything, we still have to maintain a relationship with God in order to attain eternal life with Him and it's even more than that. Anyways, I pray you my friend to change your mind on this subject or at least explore the aspects of Christianity before you accuse it of so many vile things. Thank you.

    • @Alexj420
      @Alexj420 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is such thing as Satan you do know that? And also God gives people free will. And to answer what you said, Psalm is part of the Old Testament. As far as Luke 16:17 he is referring to the Ten Commandments, which yes is still supposed to stand until today. I suppose you were right, there are definitely lessons and teachings in the Old Testament that still are around today. But the way people were punished changed since then due to Jesus dying on the cross. Once again, Matthew 5:17 is referring to the Ten Commandments and other teachings, yet not the way that people are punished for being non-believers. That is not a Law in Christianity. Anyways, there is no point in arguing with you because you are too stubborn to see my perspective. I can most definitely see yours as I used to not think that God cared about anyone or anything. I will pray for you.

    i see a lot of people interpreting the song in the comments, so i wanted to give it a go.
    for me, this song is about someone who wants to kill themselves, but doesn't have a very good relationship with god or isn't sure that they believe in god, and is scared what will happen afterwards. like, they're saying "god, i don't want to live anymore, but i'm too scared to die, because what comes after could be worse than what's here."
    that's just my interpretation though, and it's probably a lot different than what this song means to the person who wrote it. that's what makes music great, that it means something different to everyone! :)

      @@Cookie0927 That’s actually the only sin that can totally keep you from salvation, but it takes a lifetime to commit it. It’s called “blasphemy against the Holy Ghost” and to commit it, you have to stop believing you can be saved. The tricky part with it is that if you ever come around and repent, it proves that you didn’t really believe you couldn’t be saved, so you never really committed the unforgivable sin in the first place… it’s a paradox. You can go to God, it’s okay. But you’ll probably be better off in a church that has over 2,000 years of theological rationalism and mystical tradition, so… you’re better off Catholic or Orthodox. No offense to cradle Protestants but your theology takes the deep and layered landscape of the Gospel and presents it as a 2D map.

      @Swanky, except he is never there for you? Like ever. It's just the thought of "Jesus being there for you". If you get cancer, will he heal you if the doctors can't? If real bad things happens to you, will he answer your prayers? My parents who lived their entire life for christ have witnessed early death and sickness and seemingly malicious misfortune in the lives of their children, despite their desperate prayers for years.. These days they are just heartbroken and will say they don't understand and refuse to speak about it. I witnessed far too many cases like that, unanswered prayers when it just doesn't make any sense. Jesus supposedly healed everyone when he was on earth, and made very bold promises about prayer, so why doesn't he do that anymore? How is he there for you, really?

    Jesus Christ, that’s a pretty face
    The kind you’d find on someone that could save
    If they don’t put me away
    Well it’ll be a miracle
    Do you believe you’re missing out
    Everything good is happening somewhere else
    But with nobody in your bed
    The night’s hard to get through
    And I, will die, all alone
    And when I, arrive, I won’t know anyone
    Well Jesus Christ I’m alone again
    So what did you do those three days you were dead
    'Cuz this problem’s gonna last
    More than the weekend
    Well Jesus Christ, I’m not scared to die
    I’m a little bit scared of what comes after
    Do I get the gold chariot
    Do I float through the ceiling
    Do I, divide, and fall apart
    'Cuz my bright, is too sly, to hold back all my dark
    And the ship, went down, in sight of land
    And at the gates, does Thomas, ask to see my hands
    I know you'll come in the night like a thief
    But I’ve had some time alone, to hold my lions at bay
    I know you think that I’m someone you can trust
    But I’m scared I’ll get scared and I swear I’ll try to nail you back up(and you won't know)
    So do you think that we could work out a psalm
    So I’ll know it’s you and that it's over so I won't even try
    I know you’re coming for the people like me
    We all got wood and nails, we try n’ tear down hate and factory
    We all got wood and nails, don’t tear down hate n’ factory
    We all got wood and nails, and we sleep inside of this machine

He's real. You don't need to be 'good' before you come to Him. Good works can never save you. That's why He had to die. Come as you are. Only He can change your heart and clean up your life.

The subject being Jesus is never cast in the negative , but the person singing is still asking those questions that need to be asked and is honest in his assessment of what his place is . Not all good, not all bad - somewhere in between. I think that’s true for most people. I’m 32, I definitely believe in something beyond all of this, greater, more infinite and it’s place where everyone is redeemed and every relationship is as real as it was always meant to be. Maybe it’s my wishful thinking, but it’s not a place that needs to be earned, it’s there when it’s time and when you’re ready.
    Love people here as much as you can, and remember the flip side, where the light is living and possibilities are endless. Peach and love from Seattle, WA ⭐️

    I used to listen to this song on repeat a few years back sitting in my dark and gloomy room wondering what the purpose of my life was. Lost and confused in a dark and eerie world. fast forward to the present and I’ve been set free from sin by Jesus Christ. The world will continue to hate the light, they’ll say they stand for justice & love while tearing apart all that love truly stands for. But I will not and I cannot. I’d imagine some lonesome stragglers will scroll through the comments on this video expecting to find someone like me to hurtle insults towards. But that’s alright. Turn to Christ & begin to walk on the path of true love.

      How does one find Jesus christ? That is the real question. How does one come to terms with not knowing what to believe? Why is it so hard for some to find God and for others it's attainable? The thought of christ intrigues me but the thought of their being nothing after death seems even more wholesome. Just my personal belief, I've tried to connect with Jesus many of times and everytime end up short handed. Is it bad that I'd prefer nothingness than an afterlife? Could God truly blame me for being weary of his existence when I haven't found any real reason to put forth the contrary? Jesse was somewhat right on his part in saying "do you think we could work out a sign, so I know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try." But even then I don't know if I'd want to try, it feels like a burden, a weight on one's shoulders.

    Back in October of 2011, my grandmother, who was like another mother to me, was in the hospital dying of cancer. On our way to the hospital, I sat in the back of the car with that sinking feeling in my stomach.... That feeling of knowing it was the last time I would see her, and hear her voice. The drive there, I listened to this song on my ipod.. Sadly, that was the last time I got to see her alive. She smiled at me and told me she will always love me and be with me. It's been a long time since I heard this song and hearing it again just reminds me of that painful, rainy, evening drive to the hospital. 😔

    A year ago tonight I was shot and bled out in Afghanistan. I was dead when they pulled me off the MEDEVAC helo. This song played on repeat in the thick darkness after I lost consciousness. It's always been one of my favorites, and I thought it was being used supernaturally to transition me into meeting God. People are gonna say this comment is fake, but they should see the scars on my body. Atheist, Christian, Buddhist, or whatever else, we all have questions about death, and this song captures the soul of those questions so well.
    Death, even violent death, isn't so bad, guys - take it from one who endured it. My encouragement would be to search for the answers while you're alive. Truth isn't subjective, and if properly searched for it always reveals itself.
    To all of us sleeping in this machine together: take courage. We're gonna wake up soon.

    All I want is to go to heaven and be with my beloved king Jesus Christ and finally be at peace and free of never ending suffering. However I'm still young and as such most likely have decades left before that happens and so until then I'll continue to endure and struggle till my time comes. Never give up because Jesus Christ never did and compared to his trials and tribulations our own hardships are utterly miniscule..

    I'm my opinion, I belive this song to be a confession of Jesse's guilt. He starts off with "if they dont put me away, that would be a miracle" hes already confessing to "jesus christ", then he asks him for help because "this problem is going to last more than the weekend" followed by "I'm not afraid to die, I'm a little bit scared of what comes after". He's not worried he's going to get caught, he knows that he eventually will, what he's really worried about is everything he's going to lose once he has to face the consequences. He also says "I know you think I'm someone you can trust" which would mean 2 things: 1. No one thought jesse would be capable of being this person and 2. How he approached his victim, she was a huge fan and she thought she could trust someone she looked up to.
    He also hints at why it took him so long to get caught "I know you'll come in the night like a thief
    But I've had some time alone to hone my lying technique". He was promising his victim that she'd be a friend of the band and that she'd get to hangout with them whenever they were in town, but the whole time he was stringing her along the whole time to get what he wanted.
    As to why he started acting like this, he also gives us an explanation. He sings "Do you believe you're missing out?
    That everything good is happening somewhere else
    But with nobody in your bed
    The night's hard to get through" hes telling us he was lonely out on the road and this was how he managed to keep himself entertained. He ends the song with "we all got wood and nail" pretty much we all got sins we would die for, and in this case he didn't die but he sacrificed Brand New for his sins.
