    Looking to move my family out of Florida. We prefer a slower paced, friendly small town like feel with lots of outdoor amenities to raise our two daughters. We'll be flying up in August to stay for a week and check the place out. Based on your review, I think Hendersonville sounds like a much better fit for our lifestyle. I also looked briefly at Candler. If we moved there we'd be looking for property with some good acreage where we can grow some of our food and perhaps have a some small animals like chickens. Any suggestions you might have regarding where to stay on our visit next month would be greatly appreciated. The idea is to stay someplace similar to where we'd want to live so we don't want to be too near/in the city. Of course safety is very important. We are looking to relocate in about 6 months to 1 year. Thanks so much

      As someone that has lived all over up here, I would suggest a town like Waynesville or Weaverville. Western Candler or Canton could also be a spot for you. I currently live in Hendersonville and there are just so many problems here. I too wanted to move here for the small town feel, but this is not that. There are airbnbs and short term rentals everywhere, tourists too, the roads are filled with potholes and the city council won't limit development here. If you want acerage, I would suggest the further from Asheville the more reasonable prices are. As soon as I can find somewhere else to move to, I am out of here.

    I came to West Asheville after almost 20 years in the Charlotte area. I lived in West Asheville for a year, then moved to Arden and have been here almost a year. There is WAY more of an eclectic feel to West Asheville than Arden (in West Asheville you can go outside at 2am and hear drag queens fighting in the street and that just doesn’t seem to happen in Arden).
    Hendersonville seems to be a nice little town that would probably be way better suited for a retiree (plus the cost of housing in Asheville is just ridiculous).
    When I first moved here, a guy told me that the reason Asheville has such bad roads is because they were designed to maneuver about 30,000 people and today over 100,000 people call it home…something else to consider! Thanks for your videos!

      There are SO many parts to Asheville, thank goodness! I’ll have content to talk about for years! Hendersonville is coming right up! We spent the day there roaming around. And yes- each one is very different….

    I want to move to Asheville, but everyone keeps telling me that there are lots of homeless snd I shouldn't move there.

      As far as I know there are unhoused people nationwide. Asheville does have some of them as well. Most of the shelters are in the in downtown area.

    • @livinginasheville
      @livinginasheville  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would never consider not moving to Asheville for this reason. There are so many more things that encompass the experience of living in Asheville than some unhoused individuals.

      There has been a rapid increase in homeless there.I visit sometimes and now feel less safe downtown.

    What is the safest area in western NC? We are looking to move from Michigan but get conflicting results when researching. We are specifically looking at Hickory, Morganton or Hendersonville.

    • @livinginasheville
      @livinginasheville  ปีที่แล้ว

      All very different places and all relatively low crime. Tell me what you would be doing there? Working, retiring? I would say Hendersonville has the most to do. But as for crime stats you can find good hard numbers for each place with a quick google as well.

      Apples! Good ones! I would beg to differ on your Asheville take though- there may be more to it than 2 things.

    After living in Asheville and Hendersonville for 5 years, I would recommend looking at Waynesville or Black Mountain. Both Asheville and Hendersonville have become unaffordable due to all the people moving here. Any affordable housing gets bought up and turned into airbnbs. Oh yeah and peak tourist season is now 9 months of the year. January through March is non peak.

    • @livinginasheville
      @livinginasheville  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea! I’ll do a video on Waynesville as well.

      Stuart....interested in your comments. We are looking to retire Virginia to South Carolina. I know Asheville is a tourist swamp. Hendersonville too?
      Any recommendations. Larry from NY

    • @livinginasheville
      @livinginasheville  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, Hendersonville does not have as many tourist as Asheville does. Waynesville has a lot of second homes and short term rentals but it’s absolutely absolutely gorgeous as well.

    Asheville is fine for visiting, but would never live there. Hendersonville wins hands down for living.

      Montford is alive and well and kickin! Historic and lined with flowers and sidewalks. I don’t know Barbara, should I? 🙂

      @@livinginasheville Barbara is a teacher and also was or is a real estate agent. She's the girlfriend I moved up there with in '92. She's still there. Thought I would ask. I lived in Monford for a bit and it wasn't the greatest neighborhood in the early '90s. Giant home with a large front porch with a bunch of roommates. Good times.

      It is highly desirable but difficult to find a home there. Prices have increased but just just have to stay on top on the market and know when one is coming up.

    Please stop moving here. There's no land left. They're only building apartment buildings now and the roads are ALL under construction with long waits as a result.
