In the 5 of cups. There are two cups standing. Meaning....no matter how bad things are there is still hope.

Yes! The midpoint can be rough, but it's not over yet. :)

Great short and easy to follow run through. The 8 of Cups has just become my new favorite Tarot card. Self Empowerment!

Thanks for the video. Writing a tarot reading scene in my screenplay. Totally needed this. :)

Glad to be of help, and to be in service of a true portrayal of the Tarot and not the
fortune-telling creepy magic that is sometimes portrayed! Best of luck with your project.

Jeanne Fiorini Thank you very much. Yes I prefer the true portrayal not a made up version. :)

Great Video Jeanne, thank you:) If you were doing a reading and for example the 8 of cups comes up, when interpreting it in any position of a spread would you explain the journey of that card before it reached the 8 ie Ace, 2,3,4,5,6,7?

I would think the Queen of Swords and Wands is more ruthless. Queen of Cups is more of a manipulator if ill dignified/reversed. Manipulations usually involve subconscious premise, which aren't "ruthless". Water is alchemically passive and stable.
I would think ruthless would fall under an active element such as fire or air. Ruthless would be someone who can't feel anything, so they can cut out a heart. The Queen of Cups feels everything. That is her domain.
I do like how you've laid them out. But I would put the 10 of Cups at the bottom because it represents the Kingdom.

"To each his own" as the old Latin saying goes. How other people read the cards and what words they use to interpret the cards is less important than the individual reader's unique experience and understanding of the cards. This is what I've referred to as the "reader's working relationship with the Tarot." Semantics aside, each person comes to their own conclusions about card meanings, that's what makes the system vibrant and fluid.... otherwise we might as well be working with a computer program. Any method/interpretation that retains the cohesiveness and dignity of the Tarot system is valid in my book; thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I explained why I don't think the Queen of Cups is ruthless. But why do you think she is ruthless?
There is an exoteric system (not esoteric) set in place by adepts and alchemists. I've heard that argument before about "each person comes to their own conclusion about card meanings...." but some maybe faulty and based on incorrect premises and that's why so many card readers fail at reading the cards correctly. If your logic is true, then everyone can just come up with their own set of cards and decks, but they don't. Most people are using RWS or versions of them. And those cards have embedded symbolism to the eXoteric seeker of the truth that predates the 19th century.

      1. I think the Queen of Cups can be ruthless because when we want something bad enough we'll do whatever it takes to get it.....ruthless....not caring the effect our actions/wants/ needs/ have on other people.
      2. Everyone HAS come up w/ their own set of Tarot cards and decks... just visit Amazon or Aeclectic.com to see the bizzilions of Tarot decks that have been cranked out in the past 30 years.
      3. Yes the RWS is a deck with an infused symbolism based on a concept of Universal Truths. However, there can be a difference between "reading the cards correctly" and doing a reading which serves the highest good and best outcome of the client regardless if the reader got it "right" or not. If I had to pick between one or the other, I'd opt for the latter.
For instance: Does knowing the "correct" meaning of a card mean that a person did a better job with a reading than someone who intuited their way through the reading with only a basic knowledge of card meanings?
This line of thought is a good point of discussion for anyone else who might want to chime in here......

Hi Lori-- No, not really. I'd be more inclined to relate it to the other cards in the layout than the "book interpretation" mentioned here. It's useful for a reader to know these sorts of connections to be able to put a card in context of the specific reading, but it rarely goes 1-2-3 like that in real life. Good question, though, and likely something other viewers may have been wondering about as well, so thanks for posting.

I used the traditional Rider Waite Smith deck for these overview videos since it’s a deck that many people use, RWS is the “Schwinn of Tarot decks.“ Thanks for your visits to the Tarot Tips!

YEAH! This is an oft-misunderstood card, it's great to hear when a person finds the "good" side of a tough card. Thanks for viewing.
