    I took notes!
    Occlusive agents (previously water loss from hydrators like serum)
    - petrolatum or oils (comedogenic)
    - dimethicone (not comedogenic)
    - any botanical oils (avacado/etc) (tricky, use oils you know for a fact are good for your own skin)
    - no irritants like fragrance or essential oils
    - Best features for a moisturizer: noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic, antioxidants (like green tea or vit e), skin repairing (centalla), natural moisturizing factors, essential fatty acids (like linoleic acid), not necessary to use oil free moisturizer

      how about a moisturizer that isn’t oil free, i have oily skin, i wonder if that’ll clog my pores I can’t seem to find a really good hydrating moisturizer that is oil free

      @@wydmatt7294 oil isn't always comedogenic you know, for example sunflower oil has comedogenic rating 0. And you can always find oil free moisturizers with good occlusive agents such as dimethicone, beeswax, etc. CMIIW

    I feel like I don't see many other guys praising Liah around here!! Ever since I've started listening to Liah and learning about skincare, my skin has improved so much
    I have extreme combination skin (very oily tzone and dry everywhere else) and I used to get so many break outs but now I'm using the low-ph cosrx cleanser, an glycolic toner (aha), rosehip oil for moisturiser AND an spf cream thanks to her. Jesus christ I never would've thought I'd have to spend so much on this stuff but I see why now haha thanks Liah!!! Keep em coming

      Oliver you can get your rosehip oil and glycolic toner from The Ordinary if your current brand is too pricey! And the Cosrx cleanser is usually cheap (like $8 I think) when purchased from eBay

    You teach me 10000x more about skincare than my dermatologist lol
    But seriously you do. I feel like dermatologists in my country don't really give any different tips than the usual 'wash your face twice a day' 'drink more water' etc. I mean they do give better advice than other people but it's not even near to what I learn from Liah unnie and k-beauty in general.
    (Like how k-dermatologists recommend their patients to use toner 7 times and eventually it became a trend.)

    • @chavellaminerva
      @chavellaminerva 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      wow really? I didn't know we should apply toner 7 times. is it 7 times a day? how does it work? I'm so new to korean skincare application

    • @somanmalik1997
      @somanmalik1997 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It's called the 7-skin method! And it's all in one go, not spaced out throughout the day. So you just pat in one layer, wait a second for it to absorb, then continue with another and another until you feel like your skin is really hydrated and bouncy. It doesn't necessarily have to be 7 layers. But you should only use this method with hydrating toners, not exfoliating ones!

      @chavellaminerva 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      salma q oh wow. I will look up on it more! Thanks for replying!

    • @dectwentythird
      @dectwentythird 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yeah Ikr. However I doubt the "wash your face twice a day". After I watch a video of Liah about her stopping washing her face with cleanser in the morning, I follow, only rinse through my skin with water and go over it with a cotton pad soaked in toner as my cleansing step, and my skin has been so much more stable than before. I stop having breakouts on my cheek and my skin feels so less dehydrated. Also, before I always have a few acne when it's that time of the month, I rarely have it now. Maybe just very small acne here and there which go away fast.

    I used to have dehydrated, sensitive, acne prone, and oily skin; well, I used to... now, my skin is just combination to normal depending on the weather but still acne prone and sensitive (which there's nothing I can do about, it's just how my skin is since birth)... I tried a lot of moisturizers and face oils in a span of 10 years... and the best moisturizer I have used is Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Emulsion... It completely changed my skin! It definitely balanced my oily skin and repaired my skin mantle... I still get occasional acne due to hormones or terrible diet, but dramatically less! It's deeply hydrating but lightweight at the same time! Most moisturizers clog my pores almost immediately, but this one doesn't at all...It's magic! Plus, I noticed increased elasticity in my skin! It's kind of expensive when you first buy it, but when you see the result, and you'll know it's worth every penny. Plus you do get 125mL of product as compared to the usual 30mL or 50mL amount... I suggest buying it at duty free if possible, because it's quite cheaper there and there's usually gift sets available...

    Thank you for the insights Liah :) as always, you provided very helpful and trustworthy information! I have just one comment. When I watch videos from you or Gothamista or another skincare experts, and you mention that essential oils can be harmful for the skin, I get a bit sad inside, because for me personally, essential oils were my gateaway to a consious, goal-oriented skincare. Since I discovered their potence and power, I have been adding them to my face oils, hand creams, lip balms, tooth paste and even shampoo. Not speaking about the fact that I take them internally when I´m sick or just as a supplement. I still use them in my skincare routine almost every day and I am a huge advocate of essential oils. But of course, I´m talking about the highest quality, pure essential oils (from the doTerra brand, to be exact). Also I am aware of the possibility they can actually harm you IF not diluted (some) and if not used with prior knowledge of their effects (but doesn´t this apply to all active ingredients?). So yes, I agree that they could harm the skin (e.g. when added solely for the purpose of fragrance) but I would disagree that they are an ingredient to avoid in general.

    이 영상과는 별로 상관 없는 이야길지도 모르겠는데, 리아유님이 예전에 찍으신 오일 영상보고 그냥 반신반의 하는 마음으로 스킨케어 마지막 단계에 로즈힙오일을 추가해서 바른지 이주정도 됐는데요. 피부가 그 짧은 시간 안에 많이 좋아 졌다는걸 느껴요! 좁쌀도 좀 많이 가라 앉았고, 식이요법도 같이 병행하고 있어서 더 효과가 있겠지만, 마지막에 얹어주는 오일 두방울이 이렇게 괜찮은 결과를 보일 줄 몰랐어요!! 리아유님 덕분이겠죠 헤헤 :) 언제나 영상 잘 보고 있어요!! 요즘 더 자주 올려주시는 것 같아서 좋아요 :>!!!

I was using such harsh chemicals on it thinking it was gonna help with my acne but little did I know it was just making things worst- my skin barrier got compromised for sure, became oily but dehydrated as you mentioned, and my pores became enlarged due to the overproduction of sebum, thus ending up with blackheads as well. Thank you Liah! You make me not loose faith I honestly need these constant reminders from you because I forget and think maybe I can skip the moisturizer b/c it already feels so hydrated from my serum and then...you know it I break out! Ugh.

    one oil that i've found works remarkably well for my acne prone skin is calendula oil! has vitamin e, non comedogenic with good levels of linoleic acid. anti inflammatory etc etc. most people only talk about it regarding people with eczema but it's wonderful on my skin. i have acne prone skin, slightly oily but not as bad as it used to be due to change of diet.

    When you said that after moisturizing you will see an improvement with your acne, i totally agree!! i started using a moisturizer last week that actually focuses on hydration because i noticed that my face gets so dehydrated easily even tho my face is naturally oily, then i noticed that my pimples were drying up and lucky enough that im not getting more pimples either!! i still get a few but it wasnt as bad as it was before using a moisturizer!! to anyone wondering im using Celeteque (the one with triple hydration something 😂)

    Actually I use the nivea moisturizer that has jojoba oil and vitamin e and then I mix it with my sunflower oil..and my skin improved in a few days. I have acne-prone skin and I think mixing a facial oil with moisturizer really helped me a lot. Thanks to you, Liah Yoo!! ❤️❤️

    I wish I found your channel before I purchased skincare products suggested to people with acne-prone skin! I usually stick to the routine prescribed by a brand thinking it'll do the trick, and while that method usually calms the acne down, it doesn't really clear it up. Your videos are so informative but easy to understand and I feel a growing love for skincare after watching. :D

    I love your videos, thanks for always posting such great information in an easy to digest format. I only recently started realizing that my oiliness is likely due to lack of hydration...my moisturizer is a super light gel that soaks in right away (because all advertising tells me that oily skin needs LIGHT hydration, so I bought it!) and leaves me feeling shiny in an hour or so. I'm going to look for something with more "occlusive" content like you suggested. Thank you!

    This was very helpful :) the basics that are quite obvious when u think about it, but then again we actually dont unless someone nice, like you, points it out. THATS WHY WE NEED YOU!!!!! Lol 😂 i remember doing that testing method u mentioned (applying it on your both hands and going for a stroll) when i was young and actually chose the dried out one because it felt more comfortable and i thought that was the one that penetrated better under my skin ㅠㅠ now thanks to you, i wont make the same mistake twice!!!

    I still struggle from finding a good moisturizer, my skin is very sensitive and highly acne prone. however, I feel I stepped up a little and I know what ingredients are the best for me. I use my facial oil and aloe gel as a moisturizer and it calms my irritated skin although I feel its not enough especially in harsh weathers. Hope I will ind something soon. Thanks for the great information, and keep up!

    While the article you cited by Del Rosso is very informative, it is worth noting that he consulted (with compensation) for Galderma Laboratories that makes the Cetaphil products that he conducted studies on. It is definitely a conflict of interests--even a dermatologist cannot be unbiased. Nevertheless the article outlines the importance of maintaining the skin moisture barrier for acne prone skin, and the detrimental side effects of many "acne-curing" skin care products and ingredients.

    My go to moisturizers has Green Tea Extract in it and as soon as I began to use it I noticed a huge difference in my skin. I have still been looking for others that will do better, but I like that it leaves my skin feeling SLIGHTLY tacky. Very slightly, because then I know that it's still working for me throughout the day as where others haven't.
