I use Biore Aqua Rich. I've been wanting to try for a long time, but I was afraid it'll break me out. But thankfully it didn't! Plus it's under $10 on amazon ^^
i an just awed by how normal Liah explains so well... i have watched other videos on chemical and physical sunscreens but... no I had no idea, ma'am! you should be a teacher or lecturer, seriously!!

My sunscreen is Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF 50 PA++++. I don't really know much about sunscreens and this is the only sunscreen I've ever used. But fortunately it doesn't have these harmful chemicals and it's rich in zinc oxide. ☺️
I use sunscreen every single day, but I always used a cheap one on my face. At the same time I was having a lot of breakouts and I could not find the cause for them, because I eat very healthy (I'm vegetarian), I drink tons of water and I excercise regularly. But one day I started to think that my sunscreen could be the cause of the breakouts. So I changed the sunscreen to a gel type that is recommended for people with normal, oily or combination skin (I have the latter) and voila ~ now my skins condition is a looot better! It cost a lot more but ... the quality pays for it. And now, when I was watching this video I took the cheap bottle of sunscreen and I found that it has "Benzophone-3" ... never again. Thank you Liah for another very useful and informative video ^^
i'm binge-watching your videos due to my acne struggle (particularly with fungal acne). i love this, i've already learned so much. i can't wait to try out the tips you've been giving and switch to food and habits that are helpful for my acne. thank you!! 💖
OMG THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I once heard that sunscreen contains such harmful chemicals that i never wore sunscreen.... but with your knowledge i can finally protect my skill and leave those nasty chemicals behind!
It’s so difficult to find a good sunscreen for acne prone bcos when I read reviews online, there will always be a bunch of good reviews and recommendations from different sources that says the particular suncreen doesn’t break them out or doesn’t leave white cast BUT there’s also a bunch of bad reviews that says the total opposite !! I don’t know how to even start finding a good sunscreen this way. Someone help me?
I have the same problem! I guess the only way you can find out is trying it out yourself because your skin is different from the skin of the people who say it work or it doesn't work. Or go to the pharmacy and ask them, I'm sure they can help you too!
LILYnumber1 I break out from every sunscreen but currently testing the aromatica aloe mineral sunscreen (only zinc oxide and no silicone!) so far so good I didn’t get irritation
The BEST physical sunscreen I have ever used is the la roche posay anthelios ultra-fluid! It is 11% titanium dioxide, doesn't leave behind a white cast, only slightly greasy and layers well underneath makeup!
I was about to buy a $30 glossier moisturizer with spf until I got a cetaphil moisturizer with spf 30. Its white and purple and it was about $15. Its very liquidy but once it sinks into your skin it's matte. Its meant for acne and oily skin too. It works great for me and I have very oily skin
Liah, thanks for making this very deep subject, informative video regarding sunscreen. I've ever heard from my usual k-beauty show that titanium dioxide can cause a blockage in our pores and it's proven by my sister, when she started using sunscreen back in january 2016, she continuously kept having breakouts when her acne actually have been healed on 2015. So she regretted using the sunscreen and has stopped using it since then. So yea when using sunscreen, you gotta put more efforts in cleansing, that k-beauty show even told me to do 2 rounds of cleansing, first with oil cleanser then continue with the foam cleanser. But I feel very very burdened by this because I don't even wear foundation, I wear no makeup at all during daytime and yet! I've got the same painful task as those who wear makeup? that's not fair! So I can't start it.. 3 weeks ago I tried to but it caused me some breakout, not that many but it still bothered me so I stopped :( . I've been looking for sunscreens that are dimethicone/silicone free too to minimize the blockage but... they are indeed very very pricey so first, gotta save up for a while *sigh* and the information about vitamin D is very useful, I'll look up more about foods/serums that have it in them, thank you! :)
Connie Zh true! I personally use aloe and it does wonders for me! I hope she could make a video about it, she is very informative and it will really help.
Connie Zh I don't use it a lot (not because l don't like it), but I know that you have to be careful which product you use because even though they say 100%, it's not true. aloe needs other ingredients to be a gel, and those other ingredients can be bad for skin. So you need a gel with the HIGHEST percentage of aloe and other unharmful ingredients (I heard Lilly of the Desert is a good product). I learned this from an article about aloe vera gel on rawrawbeauty.com, you should check it out.
I've got oily acne prone skin and I love aloe vera to hydrate and squalane oil on top to seal/moisturize. Simple and works perfectly. Also ditto on what other people have said about ingredients. Don't use Fruit if the Earth. It's cheapest but that's because they use damaging ingredients like DMDM Hydantoin (a chemical which releases formaldehyde). Typically aloe Vera gels should contain aloe, maybe vitamin c or e, citric acid, potassium sorbate, and some thickening agent (usually carageenan, xanthan gum, or carbomer.) No alcohol, parabens, or any suspicious chemical sounding names are necessary and in general, the less ingredients the better I think.
I'm so glad I watched this video... the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer sunscreen I've been using every day (which I dont even like very much) has oxybenzone in it. Scary stuff! Thank you for this video ❤❤ I'm switching over to Sun Bum Face 50 now
I would like to suggest a sunscreen that I’ve used on my face. It’s Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen. It’s reef friendly, recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, doesn’t make me break out, NO animal testing, no gluten, no artificial colors, no synthetic fragrances, no parabens, no pthalates, no sulfates, and doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin (I’m naturally a medium tan ~ American Indian). I hope this helps.
I've been using the biore aqua rich watery essence sunscreen and I haven't had any problems with it! the texture is exactly like the name, not watery like a toner, but not exactly like a gel. but it glides on your face super smooth and it's not greasy at all!! :-)
I believe there is a special place in heaven for people like you. Thank you for sharing this very informative video in such beautiful and very easy to understand way :') THANK YOUUUUUUUUU
Dude.. I just love you. I'm actually very encouraged to start studying components/minerals and their effects within the products myself. I'll have to start from scratch and I know it's not going to be just fun.. but gotta start somewhere lol. All thanks to you 💗🐹🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
seriously, I started following your channel like three weeks ago, and started following your advice about a week ago, and my skin is already better? ? wow
I too had a tough time looking for the right sunscreen. They usually gave me breakouts even if the product is for the sensitive skin. It took me years to find the right one, which is from my dermatologist. Glad i found it.
Am I the only one who recognize British and English accent speakers? Whoah, you're such an intelligent one unnie! Btw, I'm your new subscriber here and I find it very helpful and insightful.

Bellie Han After watching her video I returned my SPF Aveno mouisterizer, and got the burts bee's Renewal firming day lotion with SPF 30, active ingredients are Titanium dioxide 2.53% & Zinc oxide 11.9%, I been using it for 3 days and I like it so far. I bought it at Wal-Mart
Finally! Been using a sunscreen that actually breaks me out. So I'm gonna research rn which sunscreen has Zinc oxide and Antioxidants! 💛 Thank you Dr Liah! 💛💛
Can't wait for pt.2 :D Liah, girl, thank you for your work! Really, I've never really wrote comments on youtube, but your content deserves A LOT of appreciation!
I agree with you for the most part but a vitamin D supplement would not replace the importance of your body naturally absorbing vitamin D through uv rays. The body needs to adsorb some type of sunlight without sunscreen.
I'm so glad I watched this video. I have acne prone skin that's super sensitive and dry, so once I finish my skincare routine I usually have to wait like...15min before I can apply my sunscreen because it burns my skin sooooo badly. Had to rub ice on my face just to get some relief. Are there any recommendations for dry and acne prone skin guys?
ponds white beauty sun protect spf 50 pa+++ its worth 300 pesos. thats what im using and hindi talaga ako nagka break out. may white cast nga lang siya konti
Hi! You can try Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF 50+/PA++++. It has zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. I have sensitive acne prone skin but it didn't broke me out :)
@strawberry_shortcake4life Hi sis, paraben free yung Biore variant na gamit ko, I haven't checked yung ibang variants nila. Wala din ako nakitang negative reviews sa Biore kaya binili ko sya :)
I have a sunscreen and i'm not sure if these are good ingredients for my skin? Can you help me and am I probably gonna brake out?? Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Zinc Oxide, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Lanolin, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Glyceryl Oleate, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Viola Tricolor Extract, Glyceryl Caprylate, Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactylate, Lactic Acid
omg I just found out about this video from your channel, and as a member of the scientific academic community, I really love how you include sneak and peak for informative research related to the topics, it's an auto-subscribe from me!
OMG! I should have found this video before buying my sunblock ㅠㅠ I read the ingredients of it just now and it has that benzophenone-3 😭😭😭 it's a 130 ml what should I do
이다솜 same! i throw it away. i use only twice and my skin became irritated and i had an oil break which i have a dry skin and never had so much of oil at my face. i stopped and threw it such a trash for my skin ugh
I confirmed that Vitamin D supplements play a signature role in reducing inflammatory acne. Because I went to the family physician a couple months ago and diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. He asked me to take 2000 IU everyday. I noticed that my skin is getting better(No more severe pustules and cysts). I do have acne now but it's manageable
Hi Liah! Is it possible for you to make a video on dark eye circles? I've been using vitamin C serums but I've never seen any improvements. And yes I do use sunscreen too. Unfortunately my work ethics requires me to stay up late and have little sleep so there's nothing i can do about that. My dark eye circles are so dark that it's hard to cover with makeup. Please help!
If you're going outside for a short amount of time for less than 2 hours than it might be okay. However anything longer than that, I recommend layering sunscreen under the makeup as makeup artist Wayne Goss has a video about how much sunscreen you're suppose to apply and the amount of makeup you put on would be too much in order for it to be considered a "sufficient amount" of SPF and imagine how cakey it would be. So layering sunscreen with a BB cream will give better protection and there are also primers/ powders that include SPF. Just don't take any flash photography unless you want to be a ghost.
Pam413 Yes. In order to get the full potential SPF protection, the proper amount of sunscreen to use is 0.2 grams per square cm of skin. If you have sunscreen of SPF 30 but only use half the needed amount, you'd only end up with SPF 15. In other words, you have to use roughly 1/3 teaspoon of your BB cream to get the full SPF protection. BB cream is usually used sparingly to avoid caking, so it's always recommended to use a lightweight sunscreen whether or not you use makeup.
thank you Liah. Screenshot all of the avoid ingredients sunscreen because i can't remember the correct spell, so i can easily check my bunch of sunscreen ingredients. I love you to the moon and never back 😘
Hi Liah, could you pls recommend sunscreen for oily skin that doesn't make the makeup on top slip and slide? Currently I'm using the innisfree aqua sunscreen, it's perfect on its own but if I put makeup on top of it, it seems like it makes my makeup slip and slide (even if i put set my makeup with HD powder). Pls help me!! 😢😢 PS : I love dr. Yoo 🌴🌴🌴🌴😍😍😍
Liah Yoo 리아유 I tried the biore aqua essence sunscreen before and it does better than any other sunscreen but sadly I'm ran out of it and I can't find it in my country, so I'm currently searching for the dupe of this sunscreen 😂 PS : I bought when I traveled to korea, maybe you can try it 😀
Yes pls! Suncreens for oily skin that dont leave on white cast when taking pictures and dries on matte! Biore aqua essence is actually good, I've tried it too.
+Michelle Angelia have you tried Bareminerals Prep Step Mineral Shield SPF 50? It contains 23% zinc oxide + 4% titanium dioxide, elegant formula, can even work as a primer, work well under makeup. Affordable for its ingredients; $30/40ml. It also got score 1 (very safe) by EWG!
Hi liah yoo, i want to ask about " Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 42 For Face " they claim it's for oily skin and noncomedogenic which is good for acne prone skin.. the ingredients of this sunscreen : Active ingredients - octinoxate 7.4%, octocrylene 3.0%, zinc oxide 8.6%. ingredients - water, dimethicone, isododecane, sd alcohol 40B, dipropylene glycol, ethylhexyl palmitate, glycerin, polymethylsilsesquioxane, vinyl dimethicone/methicone silsesquioxane crosspolymer, polybutylene glycol/ppg-9/1 copolymer, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, xylitol, methyl methacrylate crosspolymer, thiotaurine, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, paenia albiflora root extract, ononis spinosa root extract, ectoin, lauryl peg-9 polydimethylsiloxyethyl dimethicone, thriethoxycaprylysilane, butylene glycol, disodium edta, disteardimonium hectorite, bht, syzgium jambos leaf extract, tocopherol, phenoxyethanol, benzoic acid, fragrance, mica, titanium dioxide. What do you think of this sunscreen based of the ingredients? Good or Bad? Please Help Me 😭
I just want to say, I love your channel. The way you explain seemingly confusing concepts to us is extremely helpful and informative. You're wonderful. You explain everything in depth and make all your points extremely clear.
Finally!! Seriously need this video since i'm planning to change my sunscreen. But it's so hard to choose the right sunscreen for your skin. Can't wait for the sunscreen product recommendations! 😘😘☺️☺️☺️🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Idk I have acne issues but without sensitive skin and have been using only chemical 100% sunscreen for a year and it works just fine for me because physical sunscreen could block your pores AND double clensinging every day could really mess up your skin...
A lot of the information in this video is great i.e. wear sunscreen all day, all year round. However, the information regarding oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate is incorrect. Both these ingredients are safe and beneficial to have in sunscreens. The assertion that they are unsafe comes from misinterpretation of research by well-meaning advocacy groups e.g. EWG. However, every major medical and health organization in the US, including the FDA, has deemed them safe and effective after decades of exhaustive research. They only need to be avoided if you have a particular sensitivity/allergy to to these ingredients.
I think I'll rather put on UV protection clothing and use a UV umbrella instead of putting so much chemical on my face. Also, although the sunscreen I use - Banana Boat Kid's Broad Spectrum SPF 50 (3.1% Titanium Dioxide & 4.0% Zinc Oxide), doesn't have any of the harmful chemicals that you mentioned, it does have PEGs which can be equally as bad as the harmful chemicals you've mentioned. In addition, this and almost all other sunscreens and sunblocks that I've tried doesn't sit well on my acne prone skin, because it looks blotchy/patchy on my face and I don't even wear makeup (I'm a guy).
yeah i love all her vids. this one included. I just think it is weird to try to make a funny skit, but the content of the skit is really informative and the joke is that the other person doesn't know the information. i find this not funny and just awkward. I really do love you Liah if you read this lol.

The problem with that is the oxybenzone, it's there unfortunately if I'm not mistaken

I hope it helps someone out!! You can see the ingredient list on their page
My sunscreen is Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF 50
PA++++. I don't really know much about sunscreens and this is the only sunscreen I've ever used. But fortunately it doesn't have these harmful chemicals and it's rich in zinc oxide. ☺️
everytime I stop listening to Liah and her advices I start breaking out 😭😭😭😭
I use sunscreen every single day, but I always used a cheap one on my face.
It’s so difficult to find a good sunscreen for acne prone bcos when I read reviews online, there will always be a bunch of good reviews and recommendations from different sources that says the particular suncreen doesn’t break them out or doesn’t leave white cast
BUT there’s also a bunch of bad reviews that says the total opposite !!
But do I have to apply sunscreen also indoors?
아침에 학교갈때마다 영상들 돌려보는데 영어도 듣고 정보도 줍줍하고ㅋㅋㅋ넘나 유익한 리아유님영상❤️❤️히히
I've been looking for sunscreens that are dimethicone/silicone free too to minimize the blockage but... they are indeed very very pricey so first, gotta save up for a while *sigh*
and the information about vitamin D is very useful, I'll look up more about foods/serums that have it in them, thank you! :)
can you please make a video about aloe vera gel? everyone says it's great but I've never heard you mention it!!💜💜
Connie Zh true!
I use the Holika Holika 99% Aloe Vera Gel
Use the one from lily of the desert. Its great.

I was checking ingredients on my sunscreen while watching this and I found benzophenone-3😵 now I'm thinking about my bloodstream😵🤕
I'm so happy that I saw your video because every time I put sunscreen my skin breakouts and rashes appear.
? wow
+mk Wow! So happy for you!!
thank you! so happy for your channel :) you obv know your stuff very well. thanks a lot for the help!
I already know this is going to save my life 😂😂 I've been searching and searching for a sunscreen but I didn't know where to start ❤❤
Suggest me a sunscreen
I too had a tough time looking for the right sunscreen. They usually gave me breakouts even if the product is for the sensitive skin. It took me years to find the right one, which is from my dermatologist. Glad i found it.
TheOyenzz what brand? :)
I think it my be helpful if you put the doi number/link of those studies for people who wants to read like me 😀😀😀
I like that u show us actual research! Awesome! Makes u more credible

Btw, I'm your new subscriber here and I find it very helpful and insightful.
Just the video I was waiting for. Not sure where to buy some. Thanks though. 💞
Thanks Bellie!!:D x❤️
+Bellie Han have you tried Bareminerals Prep Step Mineral Shield SPF 50? It contains 23% zinc oxide + 4% titanium dioxide, elegant formula, can even work as a primer, work well under makeup. Affordable for its ingredients; $30/40ml. It also got score 1 (very safe) by EWG!
Audrey Natalia ahw, shucks! Thanks so much! I'll try to find that.
Elta MD UV Clear available on Amazon and most dermatology offices.
요즘 무기자차는 나노화 된 제품이 대부분이던데 리아유님은 무기자차 나노화에 대해서 어떻게 생각하시는지 궁금해요!
This is is so mee 😅 I'm also afraid of using sunscreen as my skin is acne prone
I'm so glad I watched this video. I have acne prone skin that's super sensitive and dry, so once I finish my skincare routine I usually have to wait like...15min before I can apply my sunscreen because it burns my skin sooooo badly. Had to rub ice on my face just to get some relief. Are there any recommendations for dry and acne prone skin guys?
Choose a physical sunscreen without dimethicone/silicones. That is key for oily skin and sensitive skin.
Is the cosrx aloe sunscreen worth it?
ShOrTwTaFvIdS -_- I broke me up really really bad
It worked for me and I have pretty bad acne
can't wait for your sunscreen's recommendation💞
Any cheap sunscreen you know?
I'm from the Philippines🇵🇭
ponds white beauty sun protect spf 50 pa+++ its worth 300 pesos. thats what im using and hindi talaga ako nagka break out. may white cast nga lang siya konti

+tifaburger skincare products can't do much in fading Dark circles :( sleep & good food!
Liah Yoo 리아유 oh no! 😢 Alright then, I guess I have to try to sleep early. Thanks Liah! 🙏
check your liver and kidneys as well, it often starts there
I love how you go out of your way to do research for us.....I truly appreciate it🙏🏼👏🏼👍🏼

Hi Liah! Is Klairs Midday Blue Sun Lotion on your to-try list? It has Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide in it!
Jo i've tried one. and still using it too. It's very comfortable on my acne prone skin, the main const is it leaves white cast.
+Nissa Niccha oh no! I'm glad it feels good on your skin but white cast is very annoying :(
6:42 is where she said the sunscreen product
Should you still use sunscreen if your bb cream contains SPF 42 PA +++?!
Just don't take any flash photography unless you want to be a ghost.
ohh wow really?! Thanks for the information
PS : I love dr. Yoo 🌴🌴🌴🌴😍😍😍
struggling to find a good one that layers well underneath makeup too! Currently testing a bunch tho!
Liah Yoo 리아유 I tried the biore aqua essence sunscreen before and it does better than any other sunscreen but sadly I'm ran out of it and I can't find it in my country, so I'm currently searching for the dupe of this sunscreen 😂
PS : I bought when I traveled to korea, maybe you can try it 😀
Yes pls! Suncreens for oily skin that dont leave on white cast when taking pictures and dries on matte! Biore aqua essence is actually good, I've tried it too.
You can get the biore aqua essence on amazon... there are quite a few sellers that ship internationally. I like it a lot.
I have Innisfree Triple Care Sunscreen and it doesn’t disappoint me 💙

Hey Liah, I absolutely love what you do, could you link all the papers that you mention in video? Its such an interesting study to read about.
I just want to say, I love your channel. The way you explain seemingly confusing concepts to us is extremely helpful and informative. You're wonderful. You explain everything in depth and make all your points extremely clear.
YES! THANK YOU MY SKIN GODDESSSSss
Omg her intro skits are so cute!!
남자 화장도 해주세요. 제 피부 너무 안좋다고 친구들이 놀려요. 마음이 아파요.

Please do a make up tutorial:)
What a video😱 Its very informative video especially about skincare or something like that i've look before, keep gorgeous!!
hi Liah, is there any other name for Oxybenzone? to stay aware of
Benzophenone-3 is another term for it!
Liah Yoo 리아유 does this go the same for avobenzone as well??
Joojenji Ah best to avoid avobenzone too! you can google about it
MissyCuteBear o okey gotcha! Thanks :-))
+Jinarchy Yeah I think the best protection you get is from clothing and sunbrellas
zinc makes my face red :(
wara you probably take to much of it then. do you take supplements? if yes, try a 1/4 pill
Should we use it to our body also? Or just face?
dang girl you sure know your stuff.. I see your PubMed screenshots LOL
you always make videos that we need and are informative. I only trust you Liah 💖
I loved the video, but the Dr. Yu skits are not my thing :/ they are kinda weird..
Is she doctor? She knows a lots of things 😮💕💕
She just does research
Great vid but not into the skits. They are awkward and the info can be given in a more casual way than the skit
eggcoco I actually liked the skit hahaha
Haha they are a bit awkward but i thoroughly enjoy them! I love the effort she puts into every single one of her videos
yeah i love all her vids. this one included. I just think it is weird to try to make a funny skit, but the content of the skit is really informative and the joke is that the other person doesn't know the information. i find this not funny and just awkward. I really do love you Liah if you read this lol.
Your hair always looks so moisturized and healthy, do you have any recommended treatments for hair?
+Sarah S I always use LOreal Elseve hair oil! My holy grail ✨
Thanks for your reply!
