When i played this scenario, the first sub fired a salvo of torpedoes after getting hit. I'm pretty sure they were headed for the merchants, but the scenario ended before they hit. I was rushing to try to engage the torpedoes with ASROCs, not sure if you can actually do that though. Good point about increasing space vs. stopping dead for wake homers. I also appreciate the plotting technique for finding the launch platform. You could do a similar thing for almost any weapon.
Yeah the ASROCs are a little different than the RBUs that the soviets have. Those things can definitely kill torpedoes in the game but the Mk46 strapped on top of a rocket booster won’t be able to do that to an enemy torpedo. I’m glad you appreciated the plotting. That’ll definitely help out against other weapon systems as well you are right.
Thanks for this series. I've been loving the game since it hit EA. I'm a fairly competent DCS player and also fairly well read in that area. However, total noob when it comes to naval combat principles and tactics. I'd love to see more tutorials.
No problem! I am definitely going to make more videos on tactics. I’ve got some naval tactics books written by professors at the naval war college so I’m going through them and show how they work in sea power in a simple way that is digestible and understandable to the average player.
Thanks for this series. Some helpful stuff there, especially in video 4 & 5 with the counterfire and marking min/ max danger zomes for his torpedoes. Any chance you could cover more techniques on ship torpedo evasion tequniques, especially if fired at close range or with longer range torpedoes? Thanks again.
The big question I have for the game is why didn’t the 2 Charlies smash you with missiles then go deep and fast? This is a very good tutorial for the game but it is in a vacuum due to the game’s current limitations. In reality those two subs hear you from 100nm+ away and shadow you for hours while they figure out what you are. Once they have you cleared as a target, as SSGNs they are going to launch missiles from a standoff range and then go deep and fast before they can be tracked
@@jamesngotts doctrinally they would usually depend on some nearby surface vessels or OTH aircraft targeting to help but those aren’t available in this scenario. Without any way to get targeting information on my position they would not know where I am at and it they could not use those missiles at range which would be the best case for them. Firing those missiles at torpedo ranges guarantees you will be dropped on by a helicopter because the launch will be detected quickly. I think if this scenario was set up with the subs further out and having TU95 support it would be cool to see them use those missiles.
@@ryu1940I think another thing that has to assumed with this scenario is that some form of intel is driving your patrol to this area as a possible intercept point such as a SOSUS net track. Post WW2, subs have become the apex predator of naval warfare and they can usually detect s surface vessel before a surface vessel can detect them. Trying to randomly locate subs in a surface vessel is finding a needle in a hay stack.
AI use of wake homers is currently very poor. They fire too far away and on an intercept course that means if you immediately turn on parallel course to their track on detection, there is zero chance they will ever cross your ship’s wake.
@@Pathoian hahah thanks! Great to hear that you learned a lot. When we get a dynamic campaign and the weapon loads of ships stays persistent as it did in War on the Sea saving weapons will be a big influence on keeping your ships in the fight vs coming off station to rearm so it’s good practice to just get in the habit early while we wait.

This was a huge help! I appreciate your insight and tips on return fire and threat bearings
no problem! I am glad to hear it’s been a huge help!
Great stuff! Enjoyed this series a lot.
@@edwardseo7468 awesome I am glad to hear that. Thank you!

That is a great idea. I will definitely look into it! A lot of the times if you detect a torp late you’re basically done for.
My sailors thank you!
thanks :)
@@13mrpink no problem !

@ yes but you don’t get any information like that from the scenario design so it’s just what you have to work with.

@@akd8525 that’s a great tip!
Great stuff mate learnt a lot, Elon Musk might have a job for you helping to save money on unnecessary weapons fire in the USN 😉
