    I had 2007 Note. Roomy car and big trunk. Very little problems. I don't understand why so many thinks it's ugly. It's a car.
    5 guys fit to it with computers if you want to go lan party. I can confirm.

    My mom also has a 2015 Versa Note SL and I want to say a few points about your video: 1. The key’s battery usually lasts for a year, even Nissan says that’s normal. 2. The Note has the exact same platform and powertrain as the Versa except the body. 3. 2017 added the CVT with fake shifts, until 2016 the CVT was conventional. 4. The rear window is actually one of the biggest in its class it’s just how cars have become. 5. The Fit it’s terrible if you are tall, has a harsher ride, it’s more expensive and the armrest is useless I would prefer driving it but living with it I would rather have the Note. Still a good video and we love our Note, it’s been a great car!

      I agree with all the above mentioned points. Especially point 5, I am 6'4" and can't fit in the FIT lolz.

    i drive a 2013 Mazda 6, 6spd manual. my 2nd mazda 6, first was a 5spd and a hatchback, but both had the 4cyl option in common. I used to work at Toyota and came quite familiar with the yaris. At one point after a minor accident with the first mazda, I had a versa note for a rental and I couldnt get over how impressed I was with it in comparison to the Yaris. (Ive also driven the fit and Mazda 2, accent, fiesta...) IF I had to choose a car in that class, It would be the versa note.. but with a manual! ;) The CVT is a little weird, but does what its' suppossed to do. Nissan does the CVT best.

    The microphone quality sounds unusually superior most of the time. It's near radio-like quality

    • @vwestlife
      @vwestlife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's because the Sony camcorder I used compresses the audio nearly as much as a radio station does.

      Viou I think he is talking about compression as a sound effect, it reduces the peaks in practise. It's not a bitrate/quality related thing

    I have a 2006 Nissan Note 1.6 auto, it is a 4 speed auto not the notoriously unreliable cvt which are made by Jatco (part owned by Nissan) . My car has been very reliable only one duff battery and a cv joint needed replacing in 142350 miles .

    I'd like to drive a vehicle having a CVT sometime. I find it kind of surprising that the engine doesn't develop a little more power (and deliver its peak torque rating earlier), but maybe that is so the CVT won't hurt itself.
    I'm not a fan of the styling, though at least the AM radio doesn't seem as "boomy" as most.

    • @narunetto
      @narunetto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've got a 2015 Honda Fit with a CVT and while it's weird to not hear it go through gear changes, it seems to deliver power a lot more smoothly than a standard auto. A lot of people said I'd have problems with the CVT, or that it would be worse but I've got great mileage out of it so far at 45K miles.

    • @bbishoppcm

      The first-gen Versa was my first brand-new car, and I didn't hate it. The earlier CVTs were not pretending to be normal "Automatic" transmissions, as the newer ones allegedly do. The car was good for what it was, but build quality sucked. I dumped it after the warranty was up, which was a good idea...

    • @narunetto
      @narunetto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BBISHOPPCM's World Yeah I don't really understand that whole new trend with CVTs. My 2015 Fit still acts like a normal CVT and makes people wig out but I love it.

      I have a little Suzuki Ignis with a CVT, it’s a bit strange to drive but it’s got very good power delivery.
      It’s only got about 66kw (1.2L 4cyl) but it hauls good when you put your boot into it even with heavy passengers in the car.

    Only thing I would have added to this review is testing out the overdrive off switch. I had a 2010 Nissan Versa Hatchback with a 4 speed automatic transmission that also had this button. Given it was a traditional automatic versus the Note's CVT, it might act differently. What I liked about it was for in town driving below 40 MPH. You could switch the overdrive off and the transmission would top out in 3rd gear to keep the engine reved up in a higher powerband. It really made the car lively in traffic for quicker lane changes and more responsiveness. Curious how it works in the CVT short of having to go out and endure a test drive at a local dealership.

    • @vwestlife
      @vwestlife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A CVT doesn't have gears, so the OD Off switch just forces it to a higher ratio.

    My uncle has owned a succession of Toyota Yaris cars (he is on his fourth), usually top of the range models. He once had a problem with his keyless car entry system, but when he eventually solved the problem it was nothing to do with the car..... it turned out to be a wireless outdoor weather station transmitter operating on the same frequency as the car and interfering with it! The Yaris seems very similar to the NIssan except the Yaris is of much higher build quality.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before the four Yaris cars he briefly had a Toyota Starlet, and before this he owned a Toyota Corolla from 1985 to 1998. Before the Toyota cars I think he had a Datsun Cherry, and before that a few English cars like Morris Minor although I forget the exact models.

    Not sure about the Versa Note but the Versa Sedan(Which is also known as the Nissan Almera or Sunny at some locations), that car does come with automatic climate control for the range topping model from where I am. But then at where I am, the Nissan Note was not offered at all. Just the Almera.

  • @TheComputerGuy96
    @TheComputerGuy96 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think this car is way better than a Honda Fit, both in looks and in features. If the Fit is like the Jazz over here in Europe, it's closer to a Nissan Micra than a Note.

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Fit is better. It has more power but still gets better gas mileage. The 1.5 Honda engine sounds better and doesn't get coarse as does the Nissan's old 1.6. The magic seats on the Fit transform the vehicle into something much better for hauling cargo. Interior quality is a notch up on the Fit as well. Also, if you're buying new, the Fit holds its value heaps more than the Versa. the problem with the Versa is that it's the #1 choice for rental fleets on their economy lineup so the depreciation is quite severe (although if you don't mind buying used, the Versa can be good in this regard)

    • @TheComputerGuy96
      @TheComputerGuy96 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be right, but in the end it's a matter of taste, and I'm sure they did some research and testing before choosing a car and figured this is good enough.

  • @SuperFIFTHGEAR
    @SuperFIFTHGEAR 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    As somebody with a very comparative car-owning history as mine, and the same sort of enthusiasm towards older European cars, and diesels, how would you sum this car up? I find a lot of newer vehicles tend to have smaller rear windows, and absolutely horrendous blind spots. Currently driving a Mini Cooper, and contemplating replacing it; rather a lot especially when something else breaks on it, which as of late seems to be happening frequently. It's nice to drive, but reliable it doesn't seem to be.
    I've often wondered how CVT cars get better fuel mileage because they rev up so much - one of the driving clips in the video you're driving and getting up to speed at 3,500rpm, I just wouldn't drive my manual car like that, and automatics seem to shift around 2,500 under normal acceleration. I've yet to drive a CVT vehicle, and although understanding the basic principle of how they drive I still would like to actually experience it first hand.

    The Versa is a pretty good cheap vehicle for around 12k new. The new Versa does not have a CD player anymore. I never seen any new vehicles have HD Radio as I am hearing HD Radio may phase out soon as many areas still hot have HD available due to costs of running them. The resale value isn't as good as Kelley Blue Book, N.A.D.A. & Black Book show bad resale value after 2 years. I had one made in Mexico & had problems with it noises & paint chips etc. I also had one made in US & part Japan & was much better than the one I had made in Mexico. I had a Ford also made in Mexico & had issues with it.

    Not a fan of CVT. My sister has had nothing but problems with her Rogue and to me it feels the engine will blow before the gears change. My Dodge Dart shifts at about 2-3000rpm and my sisters Rogue shifts at about 5500-6000rpm.

    • @steaker-gi9uw
      @steaker-gi9uw 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the first gen Rogues are known for having CVTs that die pre maturely, but most CVTs are well matched to the engine.
      The CVT in my 04 Murano lets the RPMs rise to about 2000-2500 rpm when I take off from a stop, then it does its best to force RPMs to stay at 1200 the rest of the way.
      Although I'm sure the 4 cylinder CVT cars tend to stick to higher rpms since they don't have as much low end power.

    I like this class of car (practical, small but roomy inside), and frankly I think Nissan styled this nicely, but the CVT in this (and many Nissans) are just a hard pass. The same year Honda Fit is just much better imho and slightly roomier (and available with a 6 speed manual), but that said, it's $4K more (used) than this. Like many "ok" cars, this wouldn't be so bad except for the existence of better competitors.

      The digital compression artifacts make HD Radio sound worse than analog FM, and in poor reception areas the receiver constantly switches back and forth between analog and digital, often with an echo because the two signals are not perfectly time-aligned.

      I had two early '80s Mercedes-Benzes (a 1981 240D and a 1985 300D). But now I drive a 2012 Subaru Impreza. I have a video about it.

    Be glad it's not a Nissan Micra, I'm about 6ft and I don't fit in those, dunno if the more recent versions have changed, but, compared to the old 80s ones, they're not big enough inside, they make a 2CV seem roomy...

    • @Theshadowsnose
      @Theshadowsnose 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are the new Micras really THAT bad?
      I must be glad that I drive a 20 year old one and since everything works just fine, I have no ambition to get a new one.
      I love that EVERYTHING is manual in my car.

    • @twocvbloke
      @twocvbloke 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The micra I didn't fit in was the older ones with the headlights so far up the bonnet they would work great in floodwaters (not that the car would be much use!), just felt like I was being crammed into something designed for people smaller than Richard Hammond...

    • @Theshadowsnose
      @Theshadowsnose 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That must be the 3rd or 4th generation.
      I'm also about 6feet tall and I have plenty of headroom in my 2nd generation Micra.
      It's not super spacious, but you can't expect that from such a small car.
      But it's cheap to run and extremely relieable.

    • @twocvbloke
      @twocvbloke 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thing is, I'd been in 1st & 2nd gen Micras and they were quite roomy, but the 3rd gen (with the flood-ready headlamps up the top of the bonnet) just seemed to be far too small inside, especially the ex's micra, even with the seat rolled back, I still felt crammed in, like I say, they seemed to have been built for short people...
      Don't know what the 4th & 5th gens are like though, have managed to avoid them nicely so far... :)

    i'm surprised it doesn't have climate control, only base model micras don't get climate control in Britain (at least the previous non-Renault version) and also no tweeters?! again all cars fitted with the Nissan Connect system in the uk have a six speaker system (woofer in the front and rear doors tweeter in the a pillar or top of the front door)

    That's funny. I drive the european version of the Note in the same color. Motor is a 3 Cylinder 1.2L with 80 HP and Manual Transmission. Looks identical except the different front grill.
    Radio looks nealy the same but with FM/DAB and the USB Port is in the upper glovebox. Also mine have speaker in the A pillar. But no cameras. :-(
    The AC is the automatic version. Also have automatic Lights and Wiper.
    My average fuel consumption is 5.2L /100km or 54 MPG

    • @vwestlife
      @vwestlife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      archechme The Versa Sedan/Almera/Sunny had the same style of door handles as well. They look really terrible. Especially the chrome finished ones on the range topping models(The lower range models had just matte black door handles which looks better. A little better.).
