-Don't touch your face while manipulating food.
-Wash fruits/ vegetables with water just before eating/cooking (it's better for preservation to wait).
-Avoid cross-contamination (raw meat vs cook meat or plank/cutter for vegetables and another for meat).

Not all soap is equal, I wash my produce all the time with vegetable wash to rinse out dirt and pesticides. Fruit with hard coverings like oranges and bananas can be washed with dish soap. The issue here would be if soap gets in food that is inside a package you can’t rinse out like bread. Today I wiped a plastic bread bag with disinfectant wipe and and the packaging ink came off so I just said hell with it and put it in my own container.

Vinegar and water is great for soaking fruits and vegetables! Soak for 10-15 minutes. Baking soda can also be used as a substitute for vinegar! You can also add some vinegar to the water when washing meat but rinse afterwards to keep the vinegar from changing the flavour of the meat. Fruits and vegetables however does not need to be rinsed after a vinegar and water soak.

I would initially use paper towel soak with hot water and clean them in the garage, then I will use hot water rinse them in the kitchen sink. Dry them up and put in refrigerator. It is OK to use Chorox disinfecting wipes to clean card-board, plastic, and metal cans. For roast chicken inside the card board box, I clean it carefully with disinfecting wipes, then take the chicken out and transfer it to a clean plastic container, then to heat up right away in microwave for at least one minus.

I don't think it's a matter IF you should sanitize groceries, but HOW
I mean, most things can be easily sanitized with sanitizing solution and then washed with water, or at least the package can be wiped with some cleaning product... my sister is a biologist and I asked her if there was a safe way to sanitize eggs (they are sorted by hand at the nearest store and packed when you buy them). She said the eggs can't be sanitized, water can push bacteria through the shell into the egg, however, viruses and bacteria die when cooked. therefore the best way to keep them is on a sanitized egg container, with no contact to anything else.

After shopping the first thing I do is place all packages on the floor in the hall. take my outerwear off & then move packages to the kitchen. Go wash hands & leave bags where they are for a couple of hours unless its dairy & meat. after I sort foods & put then where they need to be & leave them for a day when ever possible. all bags boxes & other food packaging gets removed & tosses & items go into plastic storage containers or glass jars. A box of crackers for instants, I remove the box & put the inner bag in a plastic container that has like minded products. I only wash produce as needed because once the dirt is removed, decade begins rapidly as the protective film on all produce opens the produce to air born contaminants. This is from observation where washing say lettuce & 2 days later it has to be tossed versus leaving it & having it last 5-7 days. Buying washed& trimmed produce is also a bad idea because its been exposed to even more air born contaminants such as sneezers & coughers & people with dirty unwashed hands, then the environmental toxins like diesel fumes insects rodents & so on. Best to leave them till needed. I have never encountered food poisoning by doing this. Can food is another story. I have only washed cans a few times but stopped doing it due to the time it takes. Unless cans for for extra long term storage I just leave then & wash the can before opening. the less we fuss over food I think the safer we are. If I am going to wash produce I do NOT use soap unless its soap made by known companies such as Dr Bronners Castile soap. Their soaps are cleanly designed to be human friendly, but my favorite way to was produce is in a sink filled with cold water & a 1/3 cup of baking soda & thoroughly wet all produce needed & let stand about 10-15 minutes & rinse well. This has always been a safe remedy to wash produce. SALT kills germs hence the product Iodine. Its simply SALT so technically you can add a few drops of iodine to wash water instead.
