Here are my 5 ideas on why Sony is ending their Spider-Man villain universe. What other ideas do you have? And what do you think of this move? Is it the right way to go?
I think your right about not presenting more positive uplifting storylines. Hollywood has recently tried to present villians as either missunderstood or just misguided and when you stack that up against lets say the original two Superman movies, modern films pale in comparrison even if visually they can do more fx. Poorly written plot holed scripts though are killing movies as a whole and even most films that recently have been decent save a few, such as Deadpool, Wicked and Moana 2, most are just breaking even and that will not fill the coffers on the studios long term. Much trust has been broken between the audience and Hollywood but the recent movies do prove if you make things people like they will put themselves into those theater seats and I think that is good both for our pop culture and our social need to experience a good time together.
YES!! OMG!! I am so tired of the "misunderstood villain" trope. Studios can only play that card so many times before they start making the villains actually look like good or passingly good people... which in turn makes that heroes look less heroic and less good. The result is just a muddy mess of super-hero/villain characters that don't really hold up to anyone's ideal. Also, if every film tried to be like Deadpool & Wolverine, then it would diminish all of them by making them ordinary and vanilla. When a studio has a winning character like Superman or Batman, lean into that character. That's what Sony did with Spider-Man and it paid off. These other films... not so much. I completely agree with you. People want well told stories. I've been talking about the story-first principle in cinematic storytelling for awhile now since it really has been largely missing. I am hoping that Sony (and even Star Wars and Marvel) is finally seeing that the story-first films are what brings people into the theaters. Thanks for the comment! @bentex40, I'm really glad you have found my channel. It's been fun chatting with you!
Thank you!!! I love hearing that. 🙂 I will let you in on a little secret. Almost everything you see (other than the futon couch and the plants) came from either a yard sale or an estate sale. It's amazing what you can find at those things. Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comment!
