6:09 …. Buddy… Pal… No. It isn’t the cliche that’s the problem, my pogchamp. It is always and has always been the writing. And cliches are not inherently bad writing. “We aren’t so different, you and I..” is a cliche but when done well it gives significant meaning to a scene. And that cliche has been even more abused than the ones you listed here.
I was going to let the moment at 8:07 slide because I thought it was amusing and does make the character a joke… if that’s what the framing of the scene was saying. They used the framing and delivery to keep the scene short and punchy but if you look, this guy has blood on his head and has otherwise been roughed up. Who knows what torture he got before the hammer… so instead of torture porn, he kept the scene going. This is another example of being a critic makes him avoid obvious traps like dragging out the torture which could turn off audiences and doesn’t serve a narrative purpose.
Agree with all this. The only thing you could really say in defense is, as you noted, that it's *supposed* to be completely derivative and cliche, but so what? That doesn't make it better. If you want cheesy 90s action cliche movies just... watch those, right? There's a million in existence and they're not pilots, they're full movies and they're better made.
No, I won't defend the movie. It's mid and generic. It's 6/10. It's not shyte. Also please show evidence for drinker saying or implying, I can do better than Hollywood.
The film is definitely not very good, with quite a few things screaming "amateur". Like the scene Jones dissects up here at 9:50. Among others!!! So at this point it strongly depends on each individual's subjective personal tastes as to whether or not to call the thing a "shyte". Jones up here was right about yet another thing. Who would watch this and why?! Because if nobody knew that it was made by CD, then what would be the main attraction? Silly action flicks like this are still being made to this very day..... in dozens!!! What CD has produced is just another forgettable 'direct-to-video' B-movie actioner, but the problem is that it does not star any Van Damme, Lundgren, Seagal, Adkins, Dacascos or Jai White. Goes to show you how difficult it is to do a movie. Just the technical aspect alone can break a vision, but you need a vision to begin with. From what I see from these TH-camrs who are trying to do movies, every shot, every joke seems borrowed. They lack creativity and true vision. Movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead or Schizophrenia look and feel fantastic because the director knew exactly what visceral reaction that can get out of a frameand they had less budget than these guys. Good story, surely is a good starting point. And to use the genre of trash or cheesy 80's film is only a cop out' and a crutch imo. The only TH-camrs who succeeded in movies was DANIELS a d the two dudes who did Talk To Me. But they weren't critics, they were passionate about making little films and that makes a huge difference.
3:17 - In the 90's = maybe. In the eighties, to a point but sometimes less so, and sometimes more. Frankly for every one of the movies you named in those two decades; there were at least 5 that didn't do near as well and aren't as well made. You say he raised $400 k on an expected budget of MUCH LESS. You do have to work within a budget. It's a 40 minute video. I haven't seen it, and I may never bother. Not because I disagree with him (I don't always agree with his takes and I do find some of his humor a little immature at times, but generally I think he's a lot more balanced than many "movie critics." And very technically, he's first a writer. Not a director. Not a youtuber. He just happened to be surprisingly popular with one particular gimmic - which I also think is a bit overdone) or the anti woke stuff [It was never a smart idea to try to tell people what to think, in general] I won't bother to watch it because I tend not to be a fan of Jack Ryan/Reacher or Tom Clancy/Jason Bourne ish novels. So I have less investment in those sorts of movies. [I did watch Reacher to season 2 - and I looked up his canonical series ending overall because I was intrigued about the differences between across media * I may not bother with season 3 if it gets one. Not because I necessarily think the actor fucked up on social meda... though he did, because there's only so far you can go with even the most skilled soldier. It will either get boring; he will be unrealistic over time, or he will be dead. Those are your options] Considering that point, he had to work with what he had. He's not once said that he was a director, or made any pretense to trying to make the next mega blockbuster. He wanted to make entertainment. Plain and simple. Did he succeed, I don't know. Being honest I wouldn't likely care; but I do think the product should be judged on it's own merit. Rather than any bias toward his politics, or preconceived character - or based on a skill set that he might be stepping into for a time, but has never claimed expertise in. Even if he does go into Directing as a move in career; everyone had to start somewhere. I'll appreciate your attempt to play non-partisan, but based on what you've related so far... I'm also not sure you quite manage. * 4:39 - Your bias is showing... Again; he's a writer. He actually gave those in the audience that WOULDN'T naturally assume that X group were governmentally disavowed spies (who could potentially be drawn from any given agency in collaboration - and that point IS actually awkward as fuck to shoe horn in to any character's dialogue because it's expositional in the first place, so it's not naturally how humans talk) the CONCISE means to state definitively what was germaine to the plot, so that the audience doesn't get lost. Yes, you can argue this might be a movie most wouldn't think too hard about if action is all the want. But there's a point to be said for not treating your audience like you think they're retarded, and giving them as quickly as possible the information they need to follow along. At this point you can tell me you're trying to be fair all you like - but I don't think I need to watch any more if you're going to nitpick him for something so many movies do that it actually is it's own troupe.
Are you autistic or something? You didn’t even watch the film yet you’re trying to rebuttal every point tooth and nail. What the fuck is wrong with you? No one asked for your opinion, dipshit.
80 and 90 action movies worked because it was the opening of tech and a few other new idea coming out. Though the "cheese" could be overlooked becasue there was some good writing in it as you stated there was good acting. Yet in the 80s and 90s there were craptons of hideous movies that were made that were just terrible that were also hallmarks of the 80s and 90s. Drinker wants to appeal to the later and does just fine. Excessive profanity cuts down on who will watch a movie. No one wants to hear constant profanity.
I’m kind of bothered by that, because he never stated it was a “proof of concept” before it released to my knowledge. Comes across like something he added in last minute to mitigate criticism when he saw how it was turning out. Hopefully he makes another and takes in some feedback
I thought it was hilarious that Anya ended up being an even more over-the-top girlboss than the ones the Drinker criticizes on his channel. Nice going Drinker.

Excellent video, new subscriber here pal. I watched sometimes TCD videos and I’m a bit tired of all this anti woke crusade, for each woke movie/tv show there are dozens of non woke projects, with that being said Rogue Elements is a very bad short film, specially considering its budget 🤯
@@jasonallsopp68on his gofundme he says verbatim “After watching so many films and shows and getting frustrated at the declining quality of filmmaking these days, I began to think that maybe it was time I threw my hat into the ring and gave it a shot myself.” I know this doesn’t say “i can do hollywood better” word for word. But it is the sentiment. First part of the statement: current movies are bad. Second part: Figured I’d give it a shot. Clearly implying he believes he has something better or equal to offer. You may disagree but I think this is a very fair interpretation. Ultimately this doesn’t prove I dislike him. If I hated him and wanted to see him fail I would just make fun of him like many others do. But I did not.
@@evanderjonesHard to say he failed here then. I’d say his movie isn’t worse than Hollywood, not better granted, but with a fraction of the time and money he did write, direct and produce something comparable. I’d say he proved his point.
So this guy thinks you shouldn't have opening texts to movies? Is this the first movie he's seen or something? Star Wars, Top Gun, Blade Runner, Fargo, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Unforgiven, Pulp Fiction off the top of my head have opening text. Maybe you should find something that suits you better, cause this ain't it
I literally mentioned some of those movies, the point I make is that there are times when it’s not necessary. Saying “spies are spies” is unnecessary. It’s not a major criticism, but opening text is off putting to people because they see it as unnecessary exposition. Just trying to give some points for adjustments

I agree about his movie, but you're wrong about the Anti-Woke people (like me). Yes, there are some people, mostly on X that say it's Woke so it's bad, which is true most of the time, CD and friends are generally not like that. I think that just an excuse Woke people use to dismiss their criticisms. The biggest issue with Woke movies is that the Woke stuff ends up being what the movie is about or overrides common sense or good writing. The point is if people just shut up and don't complain, companies will continue to try to brainwash us with Woke nonsense. People like CD (I include myself) truly care about these franchises and entertainment in general, we are NOT haters or shit on stuff because we're racists or whatever, we just want the product to be good. I too, don't agree with the Drinker sometimes, mostly his taste in movies (he likes more action movies, I like cerebral sci-fi). His short film wasn't good though, I'll admit.
I can’t speak on you personally, I’n sure you’re fair. But I think Drinker and the larger anti woke scene has taken a massive dive in the past year, especially the fan base they attract. I know there are probably plenty of good channels dedicated to this, but I’m unfamiliar with them. And I can’t take drinker seriously after his King Kong=slavery symbolism. Or that one clip where he says that he and everyone else has turned to Japanese and korean films, then when he’s asked to name a recent japanese film he’s unable to name a single one. I don’t think he’s racist, but I do think he’s become so anti woke brained he sees race symbolism everywhere. Nothing wrong with liking him, I just want to clarify my perspective.
@@evanderjones Nobody's right all the time bro. You can't just cherry-pick and "I don't agree with someone 100% of the time, therefore I disagree with them". If those are your standards, you're going to be disappointed in life.

I just personally have a hard time taking him seriously, I’m still subscribed and I watch his videos so if I ever see a change in content that would be great. Again, I don’t hate him. It’s not even just about the anti woke stuff. I think outside of that his film critique is kind of surface level and that doesn’t really appeal to me. I wish he would get deeper into the bones of why things do and don’t work. But that’s just my personal preference
And similar to how you said that woke stuff overrides good writing and becomes what the movie is about. Thats how I personally feel about this type of content recently. Rather than a true dissection of analysis or constructive criticism it’s 50% anti woke stuff and 50% very vanilla surface level criticism. At least for me! If anyone enjoys it, thats great. @@evanderjones Well, you're entitled to your opinion of course. Personally, I like to reasonably listen to the opinions of reasonable people and out of that I make my own mind up. 6:09
….
Buddy… Pal…
No.
Jordan forgot he was a comedian and convinced himself that he was a filmmaker.
I wonder if this movie was released as the result of a challenge. Hmm.
No, I won't defend the movie. It's mid and generic. It's 6/10. It's not shyte. Also please show evidence for drinker saying or implying, I can do better than Hollywood.
"the Drinker fixes" videos.
So it is actually even lesser!
As Jones put it, what's the hook then?
It Was Shyte
And not only was it that it was also very woke and DEI the very thing that he claims to despise with every fiber of his being
A 6 is above average. You think the writing was above average?
not seen the film but is it just me or does the main guy "drake" just not look like an action type guy ?
I like to imagine a critic could make a good movie for self serving reasons lol. But also I don’t consider myself a critic so maybe it’s fine haha
For a guy with only 90 subs, this is excellent.👍
Thank you, I really appreciate it. Glad people notice the effort
@@evanderjones Subbed.
Those are your options]
Considering that point, he had to work with what he had.
At this point you can tell me you're trying to be fair all you like - but I don't think I need to watch any more if you're going to nitpick him for something so many movies do that it actually is it's own troupe.
dude wrote an entire essay about nothing 😂😂😂😂
Are you autistic or something? You didn’t even watch the film yet you’re trying to rebuttal every point tooth and nail. What the fuck is wrong with you? No one asked for your opinion, dipshit.
What is bro on about 😭
Yappin into the abyss with this one

Okay. 😐
Drinker needs to stick to drinking.
When is your movie coming out?
If I get a fraction of the 400k he fundraised I’d make one lol
The film was utter garbage
To be fair, the 1st Seinfeld wasn't very good, but I kept watching...
That’s why I tried giving helpful criticism that they could use going forward. My reviews are never just to tear down
@evanderjones if anyone deserves a second chance, it's Drinker :)
Has he commented on the reception to his film?
@@evanderjones not that I know of. I think it's meant as a rough draft, or sketch of how the real version might play out. It's a bit undeveloped imo
You must have no idea what a girl boss is, then
@@Billyboblillyblob Thankfully Hollyweird keeps reminding me with almost every modern movie and TV show they release.

Apprecaite the support!
"Someone I don't like released a movie I don't like."
Cool. To each their own.
There, youtube algorithm, I watched the video already.
Maybe you should watch the video lol I don’t dislike the drinker and my critiques are all merit based lol
That's literally all Drinker does (besides release this, apparently)
Then show where he's said he can do films better then Hollywood. I'll wait.
@@jasonallsopp68on his gofundme he says verbatim “After watching so many films and shows and getting frustrated at the declining quality of filmmaking these days, I began to think that maybe it was time I threw my hat into the ring and gave it a shot myself.”
I know this doesn’t say “i can do hollywood better” word for word.
Why are you wearing gloves?
For the costume lol
It protects his fingers from all the Fedora tipping xD
@@evanderjones You realize they're not the same thing as spies, right? You're really forcing this critique when you don't seem to even understand what you're critiquing. Even when it literally told it to you..
Avgn use to make some decent short films.also dont critize uhf.
UHF is great lol but obviously not meant to be taken seriously haha
So if you were invited on the open bar you would refuse
What makes you think that
Im very over drinker. He appeal to straight whites chain smoking males from 80's movies utterly shut me off from him. How many people who had a job making films have made films before it was their job? If the answer is more than zero the OP’s entire argument becomes hollow, meaningless, and just really disappointing.
When did telling a story in any medium necessitate a job in the field?

Let's see YOUR effort then brother 😂
Can I have 400K then?
I don’t think anyone can be right all the time, I don’t expect that and I don’t disagree with anyone 100% of the time. That includes the Drinker. I just feel like his content has taken a steep decline and I listed two examples for why i feel that way.
This is just how I feel
@@evanderjones Well, you're entitled to your opinion of course. Personally, I like to reasonably listen to the opinions of reasonable people and out of that I make my own mind up. I think there's a mindset of some people that people who watch his and other videos see them as a Messiah, or all-seeing or whatever. I don't, I had my own opinions long before I heard of CD. Some of his opinions I agree with (quite a lot tbh), some I don't. The point is opinions are like assholes - everybody has 1.
If you find the "anti-woke" stuff annoying, imagine how annoying those of us with brains find the actual "woke" shit.
That’s annoying too but it isn’t relevant here because Drinker isn’t woke. I’m sorry you have a terminal learning disability, I’m sure they take good care of you at the group home. Make sure to thank your caretaker, who typed this, for me while he wipes the applesauce from your mouth.
