ray stevens is a treasure for country music for sure not sure if you know of everything is beautiful he was a serious performer he could play any instrument ty for sharing god bless you and yours
You should check out Ray Stevens singing everything is beautiful
And Mr. Businessman too!
Two of my favorites, "Indian Love Call" and "Misty"
BVD was and or may still be a brand of tighty whitie underwear. They were popular when this song came out. K-mart would have sold em! Lord knows I wore em as a youth
Ray was playing every instrument, and voicing every syllable of the recording.
Extremely talented. t
Now that you have heard the silliness of Ray Stevens, listen to Misti and Everything is beautiful. Then you can really appreciate that wonderful talent this man has been blessed with.
"The Streak" and "The Shriner's Convention". 👍👍
The Shriner's Convention is just silly.... coming from a Shriner.... :)
YASS!
@@markmyers6472
Yep it is.... coming from a former patient and great nephew of a former Shriner and that is why it is so good.
😁
Fun fact! Ray Stevens did all of the voices, his own, Tarzan, Jane, and the Monkey! I'm 68 and this song is a hoot. I grew up with all of the original Tarzan movies on TV and the yodeling is exact! You should check out The Streak, and you've already seen Mississippi Squirrel. You would love the Home Free cover of Mississippi Squirrel! Ray's seen it and loved it too!
Ray was doing parodies long before Weird All came along
Except a parody is song that uses altered lyrics of a known song. Ray Stevens songs are all original. (Except Misty)
Ray Stevens does all the voices in this. Great Reaction
"Along Came Jones" was always my favorite Ray Stevens song because it reminds me of the Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman cartoon in the Rocky & Bullwinkle TV cartoon show (for adults & children). Jones was the RCM ranger who forever rode in on his white steed to save Nell from the black-dressed, mustached Mortgage Collector's attempts to take her land. That's what the song is about. Bad guy always tied her up, Jones always saves her from distress.
Ray Stevens is also famous for "Ahab the Arab" 1962, "The Streak" 1974, "I'm My Own Grandpa" 1987.
I was in the audience for a taping of the Crook and Chase show on TNT in 1995, in Nashville. Ray was on the show and when he did this song the guy in the gorilla suit came and sat on my lap! Ray was, and still is, hilarious! Check out "Sitting up With The Dead" and "The Streak"!
While he was largely known for his comedic songs, he actually had a huge hit in 1970 with "Everything is Beautiful." It resonated with so many because it was about inclusion of all people and begins with children singing the hymn, "Jesus Loves the Little Children." He did a remake a few years which pales in comparison to the original recording.
Ray Stevens is a musical genius. He's in his 80's and still preforms at his dinner club weekly in Nashville,TN. He can sure play the piano 🎹 Gitarzan was my first record of his when I was a kid in the late 60's. I had an older cousin of mine that was funny. We'd play the record and he would act out Gitarzan and the monkey 🐵 parts, and I would be Jane.😂 Great memories ! Listen to " It's me again Margaret" or on the serious side " Everything is Beautiful".
I still have my 45 of this one! From early in my collection. Classic.
Soon to be 65. I loved this song as a young lad! First time ever seeing this video!!!!! Hard to believe! Back then, all we had was a song on AM radio! Ray Stevens was the GOAT of comical songs !!!!
several of his songs wouldn't be politically correct today. Brigette the Midget, Ahab the Arab.
BTW, he sings Jane's part.
THANK YOU for reacting to this great song!! It came out in 1969 and made it all the way up to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He had several crossover hits. The video version came out 26 years later in 1995. Please react to The Shriners Convention?
I would agree with you. Ray Steven's is similar to Weird AL. However he started earlier and rarely did parodies. So many great songs by him. I would suggest the bricklayer song or sitting up with the dead.
Ray Stephens has a song called, Ahab the Arab, but it probably isn't politically correct.
Brigette the midget is in the same boat. Politically incorrect. But funny.
I bought that song The Streak by him ( about this really crazy 70s phenomenon for a bit but it was really huge, and they just called it streaking where people would run around where they would get caught on television and stuff and they would just run around naked, including at baseball games) when I was in grade school, and I loved it so much. And Guitarzan was the B-side, and I played the heck out of that side of the single as well. It's a slightly different earlier mix than this but it's pretty close. I like all the parts and I didn't have any idea as a kid that that was him doing Jane's part, I just remember thinking that she could really sing and that it was also funny
1969.....Before Weird Al we had Ray Stevens...this man is totally nuts...
Now you need to check out his "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival" and " The Streak" 😮
He also did some wonderful serious songs. Everything is Beautiful and Misty are 2 of the best
I can't remember the last time I heard this. Had it on an 8-track. Great job
Everything Is Beautiful
tarzan was in black and white tv show with Johnny Weismeller as Tarzan
Weismeller was in the movies, Ron Ely did the TV show.
The Streak- you gotta listen to him sing that
Don't look, Ethel!
But it was tooooo late!
"BVD's" were a well known men's underwear brand, back in the day - - - "Tighty Whities" . . . . .
My teen age years were very involved with Ray Steven’s very funny story songs. Shan the Arab is the first one I can recall.
Ray had his own tv show back in the 70’s. One of his most popular serious songs from that time was Everything is Beautiful. Another top ten fun song was The Streak. Back when clothes came off and people ran though the crowds
Haven't heard this 'remarkable' song since it went off the charts maybe 1970.😀. He's noted for novelty songs but had a great song out in 70, Everything is Beautiful. I believe he's still performing in 2024. Actually a very good singer, very talented
1969
Ray was before Weird Al. Ray has another from about the same time called Ahab The Arab. If you've ever watched the movie Animal House, the guy playing guitar while sitting on the stairs among a group of girls; that's a young Weird Al.
Ray Stevens made fun of everyone and everything in his songs. Great stuff.
One man doing all the voices
I loved Ray Stevens when I was a kid! He does all the voices, he’s a real talent. And of course there’s still “The Streak” “Ahab the Arab” “Along Came Jones” and “Bridget the Midget” to enjoy! They may not all be 100% politically correct but they’re all harmless fun
Ray Stevens is a national treasure. I've got his greatest hits box set.
You need to do "It's Me Again, Margaret." It's a classic.
BVDs was men's, like Fruit of the Loom.
Also known as "Tidy whities".
You've heard a couple of Rays humorous songs (of which I love). Now you have to listen to the true musician he is. Listen to "Everything is Beautiful" and/or "Misty". He really is a great songwriter and performer.
If you liked the Mississippi Squirrel Revival - you'll love The DooRight Family. You'll recognize some church neighbors ! There is a video that is part of a film - or you can just play the track. Enjoy.
I had a VHS of the film setup! So many fantastic songs throughout it! It was a VHS I got from my grandma who was a fan of his as he was coming up in popularity from the start! Unfortunately I lost it in my dads house when he passed away, since I couldn't find it. Ended up selling the house and never did see that VHS again. It's probably been 15 years since I've seen it.
Obviously a novelty song. But what may not be so obvious is that "Guitarzan" was a #1 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100, and that's something "Weird" Al Yankovic cannot claim for ANY of his releases. Yet Ray Stevens had multiple #1s in the 1960s into the '70s when his hitmaking prowess finally cooled. He's best know for these silly songs, such as, "Jeremiah Peabody's Polyunsaturated Quick-Dissolving Fast-Acting Pleasant-Tasting Green and Purple Pills" (1960), "Ahab the Arab" (1962), "Guitarzan" (1969), and "The Streak" (1974), a song about the trend that swept Ameriica and the world in '73-'74 of people taking their clothes off and "streaking" (running naked in public places). But honestly I think his best work came out when he did some serious songs that were not meant to be "comedy" at all. My favorite Ray Stevens song is "Mr. Businessman" (1968) where he skewers the mindset of the businessman who puts money and commerce ahead of all other things in his life), "Unwind" (1968), a great little song about taking time to smell the flowers, and his biggest hit "Everything Is Beautiful" (1970). He also had a big hit with the classic song, "Misty" (1975). He continued to have success in the country music arena, but "Misty" was his last big crossover hit. You should llisten to "Mr. Businessman." th-cam.com/video/qs-vKSgUlwA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mUDPncRoULrbqtiq It's as relevant today as it was when it was released in 1968, and is a great song. It also shows off the fact that Ray was also a phenomenal singer when called upon to belt one out.
The Andrews Sisters had a song, I think in the 40s, called "Keep Your Skirts Down, Mary Ann" that had the lyric "Keep your skirts below your knees, else you'll show your pretty BVDs".
Johnny Weissmuller was an Olympic swimmer that Hollywood picked to be the first Tarzan.
Used to listen to this on the radio!! Have never seen this video!! 😂😂😂😂
Check out his take on the jazz classic 'Misty'. It's got a nice country swing to it.
Completely unrelated- this reminds e of the Jimmy Castor Bunch “Troglodyte”- which honestly, the video re-enactment on TH-cam (official video?) is worth your reaction lmaoo
Like with Weird Al, the reason all this silliness is so great is that the music is 100% on point. Both are insanely talented musicians and take great care in making sure the music is as good as the comedy.
I enjoy watching your reactions 😊 Ray Stevens never fails to make you smile, I would also recommend the streak, and everything is beautiful, he has a whole library full of great ones 🙂✌️
By the way, I love the Haircut song and the day the squirrel went to church.
This was way before your time, I grew up on this stuff
The Streak was a great 70s tune by Ray
The video was made over a decade after the song's release. and yes Ray did all of the vocals.
Checkout Ahab the Arab.
"The Cannonball Run" movie theme is amazing....movie opening video is best.
He was way before Weird Al - Ray is just to silly for words!!! BVD is a brand of mens underwear!!! - His Shriners Convention is a hoot - as is Ahab the Arab - Me Again Margaret - The Streak - jusy a bunch of songs to make ya smile!!!!!
You might want to check out "Misty" and "The Streak" by Ray Stevens. You might enjoy them a bit more... BCNU...
You really should react to Rays “ Sittin up with the dead “ video. It’s hilarious.
You should watch the cartoon, George of the jungle.
Have you done, "Ahab the Arab"?
Good call ray stevens is the southern angelic cossiple verson of what wierd al is shiner's convention is awesome if you know the shiners back story not just the fez people
BVD’s were a type of underwear that was used back then
We need you reacting to "Ahab the Arab" that is one of my favorites
Neither this video or the Disney movie are anything like the original Tarzan movies. A couple of the original actors who played Tarzan, like Johnny Weissmuller, were Olympic Gold Medalist. Interestingly, Johnny Weissmuller was also a model for BVD Underwear.
Gotta Do The Streak or Mississippi Squirrel
Just for fun!
Check out "Ballad of the Blue Cyclone" parts 1 & 2
👍👍👍
It's me again Margaret
Check out Help Me Make it Through the Night by Ray Stevens
Ray Stevens is only similar to Weird Al in that they do a lot of funny/comedy stuff(Though Ray Stevens has some more serious tracks as well). Weird Al is very much parodies(And some original stuff or style copies for some songs).
I'm surprised that this song is the one that came up though vs some of his other bit songs like The Mississippi Squirrel Revival or The Streak or Everything is Beautiful. He's got a HUGE catalogue of great songs(And even had songs releasing in the 2000's despite having been around for so long) and from what I understand he only quit his Branson show when Covid came around. I never got to see him which was one of the things I wanted to do, and I don't know that he's still doing any shows or if he'll come back. It's unfortunately just something I can't afford currently.
If you want to hear Ray Stevens without him joking around! Try Everything is beautiful
You need to try some of Ray's serious songs, like Misty, Everything is Beautiful, and if you really want to hear the full range of Ray's music, look for his Ray Stevens CabaRay Nashville show on TH-cam.
BTW, Ray's songs are mostly not parody songs beyond themes and topics.
If you REALLY want to hear parody music, look for Allan Sherman and Spike Jones. That's parody music pre-Weird Al.
This was just fun Brit. Thank you
Haven't you heard Carol Burnett's Tarzan yell?
Ray had a TV show which, among other things, helped give a young Steve Martin a big break.
This song will confuse everyone Ray Stevens - "I'm My Own Grandpa" and "Everything is Beautiful " great song
BVD's are underwear. I've never seen this video.....heard this song 🤣🙃
BVD's Better Ventilated Drawers. Also known as Tighty Whitey's.
It wasn’t Roseanne who played the monkey, that was Rosie, O’Donald, but you were close
ALL RAY STEVEVS SONGS ARE ABOUT COMEDY
Ahab the Arab was another song by him ray was way before weird Al early 1970’s
Britt, Ray Stephens gave us the song, "God Bless the USA?"
Lee Greenwood.
That's Lee greenwood brother
This got a lot of radio play for a short minute. This is the first time I've seen the video and the song by itself is funnier.
No review of Ray Stevens novelty songs is complete without "The Streak".
Get the answer from ray
Gotta do The Streak. BVDs are underwear.
BVD is a brand of underwear
this was during the time of laugh in
Yeah--you have to know the original Tarzan movies...
You should also check out the original Tarzan.. Jonny Weissmuller. Way better than millennial version.
😂😂😂
Ray make the PDC?
Girl you are too young to get a lot of the references in this song. BVD's is a brand of underwear for men. Much like Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. That yodel like yell comes from the old Johnny Weismuller Tarzan movies. It's how Tarzan would call the animals of the jungle to his side. (Think Aquaman with fish only jungle animals like elephants, lions, tigers and of course the apes and monkeys). Tarzan in the jungle is King and commands all the creatures with that yell. He can take down small armies with his friends' help. Just google Tarzan yell and you'll see what I'm talking about.
It's me again Margaret would be amother one to reviewor if u prefer serious songs try Misty or Everything is Beautiful
LOL BVDs Are Tidy Whitey Underwear!!
No, I don't know what you are saying. Disney Tarzan? No, just no. You should go watch some Johnny Weissmuller, or the Herman Brix/Bruce Bennett movies. Ray is great. I like the Yakety Axe/Sax he did with Chet and Boots.
BVD's a brand of tighty whitey underwear
I am my own grandpa
I don’t think ray stevens ever did any parody’s like wierd al, i am almost certain all of ray Stevens comedy is original
He has .any great songs if you love to laugh. Would Jesus where a Rolex, The Pirate Song (I want to sing and dance), It's me again Margaret, Cow Patti, among the others named by your amazing fan followers
44 seconds.....
