    This will be the first orbiter, lander, rover trio combo mission ever sent to Mars in human history, as well as the single largest payload we've ever sent to the red planet (about 5 metric tons). Very impressive and ambitious first mission to Mars for the CNSA. I hope it succeeds... humanity grows stronger together! Goodluck Tianwen-1, and thank you China! 😀🇨🇳

    • @SkiddyGaming
      @SkiddyGaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      @tcx y Curiosity was a solo rover mission (no orbiter or lander sent with it in the launch) and therefore was a notably smaller payload despite the rover itself being larger than the Tianwen-1 rover is on its own. Curiosity payload was roughly 3.8 Metric Tons relative to Tianwen-1's 5 Ton payload. This will also be the case with the upcoming US Perseverance rover mission (again, a solo rover launch with a small demo helicopter, Ingenuity, included... once again the rover will be notably larger than that of Tianwen but the mission will have a smaller total payload as it doesn't include a lander or an orbiter). Given that, Tianwen-1 will in fact be the largest mission ever sent to Mars by payload, and would be the first ever to deploy an orbiter, lander, and rover all in one launch. 🙂

    • @fistpunder
      @fistpunder 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      If they succeed, and I hope they do, this will be an impressive accomplishment by any measure. Many firsts.

    • @SkiddyGaming
      @SkiddyGaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @Tim Nigma Not all rovers include seperate landers. Perserverance (and Curiosity before it) have not used landers... they are delivered by expendable "sky cranes" which lower the rover towards the surface at a height and speed from which it can be safely dropped, and then fly off and crash as essentially a large impactor.
      Regardless, no Mars mission up to this point in history with the sole exception of Tianwen-1 will have included and deployed all three (a rover, lander, and orbiter). Having the full trio has not been done on Mars before (only on the Moon).

    • @SkiddyGaming
      @SkiddyGaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @tcx y Having a soft lander intact can be quite useful actually. We dont have many details on the Tianwen-1 lander, but many landers are capable of conducting their own operations (usually they can take photos, at the very least, and many have experiments or even their own instruments on board). Worth noting that this method has been used by CNSA before on the moon with its Chang'e 4 lunar lander and rover (both of which had cameras and science instruments on board). While the lander is stationary, that does not make it useless as anything more than a shell. In virtually all cases, landers have been the first explorers of other celestial bodies (the first soft landing and transmission on Mars was carried out by the Soviet Mars 3 solo lander, and the first long term missions on Mars surface were part of the NASA Viking program... which deployed landers solo). This is why having a seperate lander and rover both survive a landing is in fact a notable feat, especially considering they were sent in this case with an accompanying orbiter. It is ideal, and the most efficient use of space on mission payloads, to have two sets of metaphorical scientific eyes on the ground where possible, as opposed to only one. Plus what's not to love about actually being able to send real photos of your rover on Mars back to Earth. CNSA's Chang'e 4 lander got to take a lot of pretty pictures of the Yutu 2 rover it deployed, and vice versa. That kind of documentation is always, in my opinion anyway, a cool bonus.

    • @peterfmodel
      @peterfmodel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, rather impressive. I think the only equivalent missions would of been the two viking missions, although the lander was only 500+kg it arrived in the same manner so i expect the whole payload to mars was significantly more.

      The United States and other former Colonialism countries formulated the Paris Convention and the subsequent Wassenaar Agreement very early, imposing the strictest high-tech blockade on the Former colony countries. In 1999, the United States was forced to apologize to China for its bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia. The United States felt that it had lost face, and immediately issued the Cox Report, announcing a complete blockade of China’s aerospace and driving China out of the international satellite launch market.

After it orbits for 2-3 months and takes data for deciding a landing site, does it decide the landing site itself with it's own programming, or does it transmit the data back to china and then the scientists pick a landing site and input new commands to the orbiter/lander?
    Can someone let me know? Both how it's normally done(like previous Chinese moon landing missions) and what method they are using for this mission? Thanks.

    If all the countries are making their own high risk high investment missions to mars then consequently they will want to keep tight control on whatever success they achieve on that alien planet. And you know where does it lead to... The same things we have been doing on "this planet". Yes, territorial, racial, cultural discriminations. And what that leads to... Just skim the human history.
    Initially I was hoping that world might UNITE to tackle down the Martian endeavors but now I see everyone is going their own ways.
