Maas Digital created this animation of the Mars Exploration Rover mission for Cornell University and NASA/JPL in 2003. 24fps / Sound Effects Only version.
I've always had an admiration for those rovers... their departure was a source of sadness, but it's comforting to know that their successors are thriving on Mars :)
I have the version of this with the music - I've had it since 2003. My wife and I flew from the other side of the world to watch the Opportunity launch. We were in Florida for three weeks and it was due to launch two days after we arrived but because of a series of problems and a scrub on a scheduled launch night it didn't get away until three nights before we came home. Even then, it was touch and go - the count was stopped at T-minus seven seconds! We felt like running in circles, flapping our arms because our go-home date was set in stone and another scrub would be the end for us. However, they fixed the problem, re-set the count to T-minus 4 minutes and launched! It was our first and only launch - we dipped out on two Shuttle launches - and the sight and sound of that glorious rocket rising into a clear night sky will stay with us forever. You have to hand it to the JPL. They really know how to get the most bang from their buck. Opportunity was designed to work for ninety days. It lasted fourteen years!
Dude that's awesome! Do you know if the original with music can be found on the WayBack Machine or anywhere else? I think there's an upload somewhere on youtube
@@marcstergeorge7065 I heard that the original featured a Lenny Kravitz song - "Fly Away", I think - during the liftoff and ascent to orbit sequence, which he later had removed. My version has a different selection of music - I was given it on DVD when I worked for the NASA Quest online education programme between 2000 and 2003 and I haven't seen that version posted anywhere.
@@MarsFKA Oh that's awesome! I remember the Fly Away version with lots of nostalgia but unfortunately it's hard to find many versions of it at all. Hopefully more can be done to preserve stuff like that!
Yes, these two will always have a special spot in my heart. I was 13 when they landed, it was the first landing I deliberately made an effort to follow, and I "checked in on them" every now and then, every few months, over the years. It was a bit like losing a pet you grew to love when first Spirit, and then Opportunity, went silent.
NASA is really cool at being able to create animated depictions of the planet Mars and other celestial bodies, really humans can create something that sophisticated
@@blompertz7 this animation has been done in Newtek Lightwave in 2000 !!! I can confirm this because i knew the guy who did the animation back then (Dan Maas).

Ginial start, ginial entry into the stratosphere, near-term getting to the place and ginial prisimlenie... A ginial creation of technology down to the smallest details... It's just inexplicably delicious... Good job
That's great animation brother! I am luck to have visited space craft in Houston, Texas. Today I have marveled the commanders as to how they accomplished their mission. We are enjoying the rewards of their dedication. Long live USA.
I always thought we should some day build a museum on Mars for spacecraft that have been to the planet before humans arrived A museum of Martian space craft if you will Obviously opportunity would be there along with spirit pathfinder and sojourner curiosity whatever else we sent there That would be a fitting tributes in my opinion
@@shintyanoorafni1432 The weather on Mars is nice and has no pollution, it is peaceful and magical and the landscape is sublime. Ana what more do we need???????
Oppy will always be remembered and hopefully (if we can even prove a human can get to Mars) we could restore the rovers, reprogram them and they could discover other planets
I don’t know if they could restore them given how long they’d be out of service at that point. Perhaps they could bring them back home and put them on exhibit for everyone.
