Great lesson brother! Truly professional. What made lightnin so interesting in my opinion was the fills... He brought a lot of life to the blues in his own unique way, and brother you got it.
Thank you so much for this e-z lesson in Lightnin's method. The TABS superimposed on the examples you play on TH-cam, make it a joy to learn and far superior to those who "talk, talk, talk, about this fret, that string, that bend," etc. Thanks for steering us on the right track.
I bought his complete lesson course. He is excellent and can really teach you how to play this wonderful style of music. I highly recommend Jim Bruce's course. It worth every penny and more.
Thank you! This is what I was looking for a long time. For a long time I dream to play the introduction to LIGHTNIN HOPKINS - I'LL BE GONE! Thanks to these lessons I'll try to pick myself .. If anyone has tablatures, I'll be very grateful !!!
Thank you for your insight into his playing style. I find that Texas Blues has similarities to Mississippi Hill Country blues in the underlying syncopated hypnotics groove.
The tablature from clip two may be wrong, both the sound and his left hand on the fret bar shows that on the B sting D is played. So, instead of 2/v, C# vibrato, it should be 3/v, D vibrato.
No one answered? I was about to ask the same question, because I figured someone would have to answer... please... a guitar guru out there... help me... what does that arrow signify, my rendition is missing a piece...
I think he's referring to raking his finger across most strings in the direction of the arrow using the nail on your finger. But it should sound more like a scratch/scrape than a strum, managed by quickly dampening the stings.
Hi, great video lesson but the TAB is no right, some of the E bass (sixth string open)walking all along the track are missing. So understanding the picking just by reading the tab is impossible...
To get the feeling that you're actually there behind a 1949 bama road house shoulder to shoulder with a couple of dirt-poor young black guys playing mumbly peg trying to shake up some wine money on a hot ass Saturday morning. That's the gritty sound we want.
How come when I watch lightning live he doesn't use a full E major chord ever but everybody teaches his style that way. In his turn around in E it looks like he uses an E 7 maybe mutes the D string. Never seen him use a full E major chord.

Magnificent lesson and playing Jim. Captured the sound and spirit.
An excellent lesson. Puts to shame the other rushed "lessons" posted by people who are just showing off.
yes!!!

Thanks for helping understanding how Lightnin' Hopkins plays! Real cool!
Bought my first lightnin L.P. in 1963. Still got it.
A great insight into Sam Hopkins playing style, many thanks.

Great video, my man! Great playing! And very nice and clear presentation. Thank you! 🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸😊
Great Video!! FYI, I drove past the Centerville exit for years when I went to Texas A&M years ago! I never knew such a great blues man was from there!
Great my friend! Im in love with acoustic guitar and these videos really help me to play this soulful style of blues.
Thank you for your insight into his playing style. I find that Texas Blues has similarities to Mississippi Hill Country blues in the underlying syncopated hypnotics groove.
Great lesson. Thanks from the UK.

Gianfranco Francischiello haha 😆 get on you ..smarty pants
This is great, and super helpful, thanks very much. Also, have you thought of moonlighting as a Jeremy Corbyn double?
Gavin Morris lol Jeremy can’t play the ( Tory) blues. He only plays the red. .labour lol 😂
holy smokes ...luv ya Jim
Thanks so very much 👍
You, sir, aré a master!
This lesson is fool proof . Thanks . Just need a little application and i could change my name to something bluesy .
Nothing like lightning mate
Lesson in 5:14
It is standard--and WISE practice to play the song first to see if the listener wants to learn it and/or to let the student hear how it should sound.
Google it. The complete course is a very good deal.
I have the same guitar. After playing the $1000 guitars I settled on the sound of the Sika spruce Martin. $600
Hi Jim do you know where I can get the sheet music for "Bring me my Shotgun" by lightning hopkins?
any luck mate?
I think ol jim stroked out bub. No sign of him in the comments section of any of these videos.
Damn man thats cooking
Hey Walt ! You play guitar well !
In the video this song comes from Lightnin is actually playing in F sharp, not E.
Jim, are you a Liverpudlian?
where can you buy it??
Sorry anybuddy Tell me what Is the tuning
Pretty good lesson. However, the notion is off! (Especially around clip 4, E vs A bass)
What does the arrow across the fret mean?
No one answered? I was about to ask the same question, because I figured someone would have to answer... please... a guitar guru out there... help me... what does that arrow signify, my rendition is missing a piece...
Someone please answer...
might mean strum all the strings?

I noticed that too. Shame as otherwise it's a pretty good lesson.
What kind of Martin guitar are you using
Looks like a Martin 000X1AE
