You are exactly right. I've observed our Pileated Woodpeckers from afar for years, and was excited when I had my phone with me when this one decided to work on our utility pole. I've enjoyed our Red Bellied Woodpeckers, and was surprised, and amused at how territorial they are. We have multiple ones sneak in to get some food while our resident pair are out on their neighborhood watch patrols.
