The pole needs the drain hole at the bottom of the pole, so the sleeve does not fill with rain water and start to rot the pole and also will freeze in the winter and might break or crack the pole JohnQ public. This is very true. But the should changed the reading for lighting the flag pole at night. Yes, mine is lit at night with an L.E.D. spot light, but it's hard to figure how to light it, where to get the power to light it and the thieves of the night.

Great video. I live in southern Texas. It is windy every day 12-30 mph. I also fly 2 flags. How do I keep the flags from crawling up the flag pole when the wind is blowing. I do not see any clips or screws to keep the bottom of bottom flag from going up. Any ideas?
Unless you have a heavy duty flag pole, the high winds do make the flag fold up to lessen the wind strength on the pole. As you can see on the car lots there in Texas. They have beads that help hold the flag down yet the size of flag will still climb up the pole to protect the flag and pole.

Welcome from Ireland. These poles normally are strong as long as you don't dent the pole and make it weak. If you ever have high winds, more than one flag might take the pole down. Thanks so much for your comment.
I have gotten a lot of complaints about this flagpole coming from China. It is what it is. I also use nylon flags because I get a lot of high winds here. The cotton flags are heavier and the pole really waves back and forth, but no damage to report. The nylon flags are lighter and last as long as the cotton ones from my experience over the last couple of years.

For the winter months here, a solar light isn't good enough. I installed an L.E.D. Christmas Spot light on the house that plugs in and directed it towards the flag in which lights up the flag and part of my yard. In the instructions, it does call for a light if left flying all night. You are right about lighting the flag at night or take it in each day. Thanks for the great comment Notsosilentmajority1.

I just bought mine from Harbor Freight the other day. I had another pole before, for about 15 years, but it was getting kind of worn looking so I got this one. It's a very good price and I like the telescoping rather than the rope. I was continuously having to untangle the flag from around the pole and this one I think will be much better in unwrapping. I was a little disappointed in something, that's not a big deal to most people, but I am a little too much of a perfectionist. When I put the pole in the sleeve, it had a very slight lean to one side. I KNEW that I had leveled it, but there is a little play in the sleeve. Not much, but it does move the pole a little. When I saw Mike's was leaning a little, I felt better!! I was actually thinking of going and taking it all apart, going to Home Depot for another sleeve and redimix, dig another hole, etc. and my wife was just hoping that I would be satisfied ........ and now I am. It's not that big of a deal. Thanks Mike!

I will admit, not everything in this world is perfect, and we can't save the whole world so just leave it be I say, now that I am getting a little older. To tell you the truth, I didn't look. We had a new harbor freight store go in and this is what I bought. I did buy a new replacement flag at the same time that did say Made in America on it. Otherwise the pole came with a nylon flag. Just the same, I know what you are talking about Nicole Firebaugh. God Bless.
No, they work just OK. Some people will put a little sheet metal screw at each section. Mine stay up until we have strong winds and one of the sections will come loose. Maybe that is a good thing so the wind isn't as strong at the ground level. The twist locks are just plastic and you can twist them past where they are suppose to lock and keep twisting until you feel the locking area. I also drop each section about 2 inches down to make it stronger at the joint for the wind.
I bought this one. I live in Michigan and they told me to dig four foot deep. I am still confused about how to set this properly, so it's just sitting in my garage for weeks.
Where I live, there isn't really a frost line to worry about. Michigan freezes DEEP. and you have to get below the frost line to your pole does not heave out of the ground as the ground starts to thaw out.
Love the National Anthem. Hint: if you’ll tighten and loosen by turning the poles themselves instead of the aluminum fittings it will last much longer. The aluminum fittings tend to fail if you use those to tighten each section. Just twist the poles themselves right or left to tighten and in tighten. Easy peasy and no damage.
You have 3 options. 1 is to leave the flag fling high because the pole isn't really that tall. 2 is too unlock the section on the pole and lower your flag to the desired height, but that isn't really right because the pole does not extend above the flag. Also you might have messed up the cheap locking system that holds the sections in place. 3 This pole has two places too hold two flags. Just unclip your flag and clip it in the place of where the second flag could have hung. These are just my thoughts and hope this helped you make up your mind.
Yes, there is a plastic round piece that fits on the bottom with a hole in it to let the water out. I put about 2 inches of pea gravel down the pipe hole for better drainage. Still fills with rain water Joe.
If anyone has a problem with their pole section not staying up, get the "pin and loop" from the hardware store and drill the hole thru your pole and be done with it...
You can do that to make it easier to get down but it you just put small metal screws in each section it isn't that noticeable and I leave my flag up and only take it down to change the flag by pulling the pole out of the ground. So far my pole stays up in place compared to others that I know have this pole. Thanks for stopping in MSG A J Himel Ret
I believe there is an oil or wax that is still on the pipe when they made it. The locking sections are just a cheap piece of plastic that you don't want to lock very hard or it will click past the lock. I never unclick my sections and in time, they will stay in place. I would suggest to get some sheet metal screws and screw each section together. If I ever have to change my flag, I pull the pole out of the holder and lower the pole too where I can change the flag. As you have done, you probably paid much more for you new pole and I am sure it works better than this pole, but a cheap fix would have been fine also. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your new pole.
Just a word of caution from someone that has had two 20' HF poles. Don't extend the sections all the way out... leave each section about 2" (at least) from full extension. This will help keep the pole from coming down in strong winds. Yep, I had one come down and bent the sections all the heck. Second, consider a lanyard by hooking a single pulley to the top D-ring and use to two metal clips for the flag grommets. This aids to take the flag down at sunset... unless you plan to light it all night with a dedicated light. (That's flag etiquette.) It sure looks great blowing in the breeze! Let freedom ring!
Well Dave, in my show more section I did describe to drop the poles down 2" for better support to keep the poles from slipping down even though it makes sense about the wind. I never plan on sliding the poles down because you know it will wear out soon. I would rather pull the pole from the pvc and take the flag down. I know you did dads pole that way and the light rope broke finally, so we cut it off and hung it the way it was intended. I do dads flag for him now anytime he needs to change it or whatever. Thanks for the heads up and if this pole becomes a problem, I will pay better money for a good one Dave.
Just Mike it is a pretty good one. Just want to save you from buying two like I had to. You mean in your description, the 2” drop? Either way, if you don’t have a light on it and want to properly display the flag, it’s just easier to have a lanyard to move the flag up and down. The idea is to maintain the lanyard in at least good condition and change it out every couple of years. If it does break, that’s when you have to pull the whole pole out and restring it. Anyway, glad you have your own pole and flag now. Cheers!

You know, telescopic flagpoles like these are good for some reasons because if you get a halyard conversion kit, you wouldn’t need to worry about climbing the pole to change the halyard (rope). I found the kit on numerous websites and I hope there could be some modifications for the pole in the future. Plus, the truck/pulley, halyard, snap hooks, and cleat could be good for you if you want to fly your flag at half staff. Make sure you measure the diameter near the ball before you get the truck/pulley
For this type of pole, I would not suggest to lower the pole very often. Not sure the lock system would handle it. Also the pole does slide down itself in high winds on some of them. You could just put a sheet metal screw in each section to solve that problem. Myself, I pop the pole out of the ground and lay it down enough to change the flag and on those rare days of 1/2 staff isn't a problem unlocking the sections. Thanks for the info., but I don't like the ropes to mess with on my pole. Then seem to always shrink or get too tight and just a pain. This is why I wanted this pole with less moving parts.
@BuckBrothersCentral Easiest thing for half staff with telescoping pole is to get a black ribbon that attaches to the pole just above the flag, has the same meaning. Also works for small poles that people have in flag holders attached to a house, railing, or on vehicles.

I just bought mine from Harbor Freight the other day. I had another pole before, for about 15 years, but it was getting kind of worn looking so I got this one. It's a very good price and I like the telescoping rather than the rope. I was continuously having to untangle the flag from around the pole and this one I think will be much better in unwrapping. I was a little disappointed in something, that's not a big deal to most people, but I am a little too much of a perfectionist. When I put the pole in the sleeve, it had a very slight lean to one side. I KNEW that I had leveled it, but there is a little play in the sleeve. Not much, but it does move the pole a little. When I saw Mike's was leaning a little, I felt better!! I was actually thinking of going and taking it all apart, going to Home Depot for another sleeve and redimix, dig another hole, etc. and my wife was just hoping that I would be satisfied ........ and now I am. It's not that big of a deal. Thanks Mike!
lol, I have COD and like things to look right also. I just marked it up to everything else was not right and the pole was, lol. I will admit, not everything in this world is perfect, and we can't save the whole world so just leave it be I say, now that I am getting a little older. was wondering where the pole and flag are made?
To tell you the truth, I didn't look. We had a new harbor freight store go in and this is what I bought. I did buy a new replacement flag at the same time that did say Made in America on it. Otherwise the pole came with a nylon flag. Just the same, I know what you are talking about Nicole Firebaugh. God Bless.

I have a question??? On the telescoping flag pole, do those twist locks work real good and when taking the flag down, are they easy to disengage?
No, they work just OK. Some people will put a little sheet metal screw at each section. Mine stay up until we have strong winds and one of the sections will come loose. Maybe that is a good thing so the wind isn't as strong at the ground level.
The twist locks are just plastic and you can twist them past where they are suppose to lock and keep twisting until you feel the locking area. I also drop each section about 2 inches down to make it stronger at the joint for the wind.

I bought this one. I live in Michigan and they told me to dig four foot deep. I am still confused about how to set this properly, so it's just sitting in my garage for weeks.
Where I live, there isn't really a frost line to worry about. Michigan freezes DEEP. and you have to get below the frost line to your pole does not heave out of the ground as the ground starts to thaw out.

Love the National Anthem. Hint: if you’ll tighten and loosen by turning the poles themselves instead of the aluminum fittings it will last much longer. The aluminum fittings tend to fail if you use those to tighten each section. Just twist the poles themselves right or left to tighten and in tighten. Easy peasy and no damage.
What size is the pvc pipe you bury, I lost mine .

I do believe it's 18"x2 1/2". You should measure your pole to make sure it's the right size.

What do you do if the country is flying at half mast?
You have 3 options.
1 is to leave the flag fling high because the pole isn't really that tall.
2 is too unlock the section on the pole and lower your flag to the desired height, but that isn't really right because the pole does not extend above the flag. Also you might have messed up the cheap locking system that holds the sections in place.
3 This pole has two places too hold two flags. Just unclip your flag and clip it in the place of where the second flag could have hung.
These are just my thoughts and hope this helped you make up your mind.

Does it have a bottom plate to cover the pipe in the ground ?
Yes, there is a plastic round piece that fits on the bottom with a hole in it to let the water out. I put about 2 inches of pea gravel down the pipe hole for better drainage. Still fills with rain water Joe.
If anyone has a problem with their pole section not staying up, get the "pin and loop" from the hardware store and drill the hole thru your pole and be done with it...
You can do that to make it easier to get down but it you just put small metal screws in each section it isn't that noticeable and I leave my flag up and only take it down to change the flag by pulling the pole out of the ground. So far my pole stays up in place compared to others that I know have this pole. Thanks for stopping in MSG A J Himel Ret

I've had no luck with the telescopic poles, they have all slid down eventually over time, so I bought a five piece flag pole.
I believe there is an oil or wax that is still on the pipe when they made it. The locking sections are just a cheap piece of plastic that you don't want to lock very hard or it will click past the lock. I never unclick my sections and in time, they will stay in place. I would suggest to get some sheet metal screws and screw each section together. If I ever have to change my flag, I pull the pole out of the holder and lower the pole too where I can change the flag.
As you have done, you probably paid much more for you new pole and I am sure it works better than this pole, but a cheap fix would have been fine also.

Just a word of caution from someone that has had two 20' HF poles. Don't extend the sections all the way out... leave each section about 2" (at least) from full extension. This will help keep the pole from coming down in strong winds. Yep, I had one come down and bent the sections all the heck. Second, consider a lanyard by hooking a single pulley to the top D-ring and use to two metal clips for the flag grommets. This aids to take the flag down at sunset... unless you plan to light it all night with a dedicated light. (That's flag etiquette.) It sure looks great blowing in the breeze! Let freedom ring!
Well Dave, in my show more section I did describe to drop the poles down 2" for better support to keep the poles from slipping down even though it makes sense about the wind. I never plan on sliding the poles down because you know it will wear out soon. I would rather pull the pole from the pvc and take the flag down. I know you did dads pole that way and the light rope broke finally, so we cut it off and hung it the way it was intended. I do dads flag for him now anytime he needs to change it or whatever. Thanks for the heads up and if this pole becomes a problem, I will pay better money for a good one Dave.
Just Mike it is a pretty good one. Just want to save you from buying two like I had to. You mean in your description, the 2” drop? Either way, if you don’t have a light on it and want to properly display the flag, it’s just easier to have a lanyard to move the flag up and down. The idea is to maintain the lanyard in at least good condition and change it out every couple of years. If it does break, that’s when you have to pull the whole pole out and restring it. Anyway, glad you have your own pole and flag now. Cheers!

You know, telescopic flagpoles like these are good for some reasons because if you get a halyard conversion kit, you wouldn’t need to worry about climbing the pole to change the halyard (rope). I found the kit on numerous websites and I hope there could be some modifications for the pole in the future. Plus, the truck/pulley, halyard, snap hooks, and cleat could be good for you if you want to fly your flag at half staff. Make sure you measure the diameter near the ball before you get the truck/pulley
For this type of pole, I would not suggest to lower the pole very often. Not sure the lock system would handle it. Also the pole does slide down itself in high winds on some of them. You could just put a sheet metal screw in each section to solve that problem. Myself, I pop the pole out of the ground and lay it down enough to change the flag and on those rare days of 1/2 staff isn't a problem unlocking the sections. Thanks for the info., but I don't like the ropes to mess with on my pole. Then seem to always shrink or get too tight and just a pain. This is why I wanted this pole with less moving parts.

@BuckBrothersCentral Easiest thing for half staff with telescoping pole is to get a black ribbon that attaches to the pole just above the flag, has the same meaning. Also works for small poles that people have in flag holders attached to a house, railing, or on vehicles.
