As much as people hark on about it, it's not that difficult to do. It's not just the flash. It's a flash and a few frames of an animation. People may not know rhis but MTPO actually designs the Dreamland express ro be very favorable to dodging. If you pay close attention you will notice Sandman can sometimes have an inconsistent number of frames between the punches. This is because the game gives you a few frames of buffer, my guess about 4 or 6. Definitely not more then 8 though. So no, Sandman isn't literally impossible to dodge based on the "indicator". Because the flash is only a piece of the whole indicator

Their is a way to beat sandman, and he is easier than you say. You know when he's about to do a 3 uppercut because he'll stop moving his legs right before he does it. Otherwise he's always moving his legs. You can also Punch his face after his jabs while he's moving his legs to make him dodge, then immediatley dodge and you can land some hits on him. If you can't tell when he's about to do his dreamland express, then find out by punching up. If he blocks then that means get ready.

By far, the best Mike Tyson's Punch Out tutorial yet. In this part, been cool if you mentioned World Circuit Bald Bull's bull charge at half range if you didge it. Note worthy, Soda Popinski's name is culturally amiss for the more part. Most of the time, the Polish spell the "ski" with an "i" (Popinski) and the Russians spell their "ski" with a "y" (Popinsky). Also, Soda Popinski and Super Machoman look really funny if you knock them down with an abdominal punch. Sry, last thing. Super Machoman has an intimidation factor. If you really start to mess up with him and you go pink from losing your hearts, he'll crouch down and shake his body left and right really fast, then nail you with a super uppercut. But again, great series.
You actually see both letters (I.e. Popinskiy) a lot, particularly with slavs whose native language uses Cyrillic. That being said, just the i isn't entirely amiss, especially considering he could theoretically have come from anywhere in the Soviet Union and picked it up from a neighbouring country! Displacement was common at the time, after all.
I spend an entire Summer break back in the early 90s basically perfecting my gameplan. I was finally able to beat the game without taking a single punch. @@GionaPis-yr3pv Thanks for the advice, but it has been 3 years. I would have to start from scratch to get the muscle memories and honestly that I made it to Sandman is achievement enough for me at this point.
Yes Overall Mr Sandman is harder than SMM in most cases, yet that one fast spin punch macho man does sometimes is (in my opinion) on par with the dreamland express, or at least it was until I found out that there's a dude that shakes his head just before macho does this attack, thanks to that I'll manage to avoid it easily
Actually how I deal with the spin punch is just tapping up immediately gut-punching him like you could with Piston Honda. Super Macho Man takes some damage and you can get stars. But stars have to be used when he's stunned from rapid punches or else he'll dodge it.
Sandman puts his hads together before the dreamland express. But from what I can tell, he will only do it if you're not trying to anticipate it by dodging.
so I've re-watched this video a few times now and I'm FINALLY able to see the tell just barely. its really just training your brain to fully processes the two frames.
I'm gonna be honest, the rewind feature from NES Online on Switch may be cheesy as heck, but it really makes Mr. Sandman, and by extent, almost everyone else in the world circuit easier.
Actually, Sandman's Dreamland Express "tell" is much longer if you don't dodge so often when he is just standing there. You'll be able to see him alter his pose if you keep still while waiting for the Dreamland Express to come and have enough time to react and dodge.
5:12 soda only goes down instantly via the ducking-confusion stars. If you get a star via punching him while he’s winding up for a hook, he won’t go down instantly
As someone said, the que you showed of Sandman is the one if you have been dodging a lot when he is just standing there, once he starts standing keep your cool, and he will do a quick hand shuffle before the que starts giving you like maybe a quarter of a second extra
I really have to wonder if the Soda Popinski Uppercut Block was intended or not, but in either way you explained a possible reasoning beautifully as well as hilariously.
“We’ll come to hell” Me: plays it on switch online Me: gets hit Also Me: holds ZR and ZL goes back and fixes attack movement “I don’t see how this is hard”
I think that the reason Super Macho Man (easily an easier fight than Mr. Sandman) Is the world Champ, is because you have the mindset of, "Oh god, if SANDMAN was that bad, how bad will THIS guy be?" So to find out he isn't AS bad relives you, and you go into the Mike Tyson fight with confidence, they need you to have that confidence in your own skills jst for Mike Tyson to seem so godlike when he sends you to the mat for the 10 count for quickly.
i absolutely had no fucking idea Popinski had such a weakness. wow lmao. i knew about the delayed uppercut, but had no idea you could counter that and get a star to one shot him.
The World Circuit is a joke for the first 4 fights, but then Sandman a machine that requires perfect reaction time to conquer is played second banana to a boxer whose greatest threat is re-fighting the one who comes before. This games hardest boss is Sandman... atleast before Iron Mike. Atleast that's what I think after devoting hours of my life just to beat the World Circuit all in a row, which by the way felt great to conquer.
i don't know if this is a my youtube thing, but i really like that all 3 videos appear one after the other in order, but the mike tyson one doesn't,like in the game i have to look it up to see the fight, and i dunno it seemed kinda funny to me
TH-cam likes shadow banning that one for whatever reason, dunno what I did! Maybe the 'power hit' joke? Makes it very annoying to show we actually finished the series!
Sandman was originally going to be number 1 in the major circuit. The developers didn't want players to play Sandman and Mike Tyson back to back, so they switched his order with Super Macho Man. This ironically made the game harder imo since Tyson has a checkpoint before him still. I'm glad you agree Designing 4.
I’d say the Infinity Blade series is a very similar style game given how each battle is pretty much a boss and at the end is a “title bout” each needing great timing and in the first game you need a perfectly positioned parry when you want to get a stun, there are many classes of enemies some are out fighters in fighters and giant sluggers, I wish it could still be bought and played some where other than apple tablets
actually ive noticed that if you pay attention to mr sandman he does have a few frames where he doesnt even move before the dreamland express so there technically are more frames before he does it
Sandman's 2 frame tell only happens if you dodge a lot as he's about to do it. The key is to not be afraid, aiming to catch the visual cue instead of trying to get a feel for when he's about to do it and blindly dodge. It's still brutally difficult, but manageable
8:04 no you have basically literally a second to react cuz if he stops moving then ya gotta GET OUTTA THERE and there’s a 90 out of a 10% chance that you’ll dodge all of them cuz YA GONNA GET HIT (idk how I caught that flash also lol ) Edit : but don’t worry if your playing on switch Nintendo entertainment system then you just gotta rewind so you get a second chance or 100 chances 🙂👌

Sobod rofinkski = Sobd rorfiski
6:39 - Aww =) It's all good.
WORLD CIRCUIT FIGHTS:
Piston Honda 2 - Surprise, I'm talking about the rematches, too! Piston Honda 2 is probably the least interesting of these in retrospect, but it's sorta neat to see an early game fight fairly easily adapted into a late-mid game one (weird breaking up the structure of a game with such a bloated third act). He probably ends up being the hardest of the Rematches, since you more or less HAD to learn Bald Bull's gimmick to beat him the first time, and Don Flamenco's a special case. Makes for a fairly decent pace setter.
Soda Popinski - It impresses me how naturally real world boxing principles were translated into the NES game. Case in point: the player is immediately confronted with a psychological barrier coming up against Sody Popinski because his animations are coming from the other direction than they've been dealing with, owing to his being a lefty (distinctly A Thing© in boxing, as the video covers). I mean, sure, our sloshed Soviet slugger is plenty tough and all, too, what with his in-your-face uppercuts and his rumbling jabs. But I think it's that mental hurdle that makes him most compelling, as well as a nice starting point for the World Circuit as mental chess (like good boxing should be!)
Also - probably the funniest hit animation? Something about his beady little eyes flickering makes me think of a slot machine every time I deck his face.
Also also - "Soda Popinski" is way funnier than "Vodka Drunkenski"
Bald Bull 2 - Bald Bull continues to be the biggest Bluto in the game by taking the main leaf out of Bluto's book, and being a blatant freaking cheater. You thought you had him for sure with that stunlock? Nope, he'll just blatantly recover in your face, tough bananas. It's PlayStation All-Stars Fight Thing rules here, you either take him down with Super Moves or you go home. By consequence, he ends up being substantially easier than most of the other fights here, but he'll still keep you on your toes.
FLAMENCO STRIKES BACK! RETURN OF DON! - Surprisingly, one of my favorite fights in the game! Working your way up the ranks, he is of course absurdly easy, even moreso than any other fight in World Circuit. Sure, he takes forever to beat, but he's not too bad. Heck, I beat him on my first run, something I hadn't done since... King Hippo? Maybe even the first Don Flamenco fight?
However! If you job to Mr. Sandman or Super Macho Man, then you gotta go back and deal with Don Flamenco's crap again. And lemme tell you, suddenly the pisstake that is Don Flamenco becomes a royal pain when your brain is tuned to the speed of the Dreamland Express or Super Spin Punch. It makes for great pacing in both directions - RETURN OF DON is a breather after Soda Popinski and Bald Bull 2, but just a cruel component of the death spiral after Mr. Sandman and Super Macho Man. Absolutely fascinating to see.
Mr. Sandman - I like that among all these crazy caricature characters, Punch-Out consistently has a guy whose gimmick is "normal boxer" (that and going on about DRRREEEAMLAAAAND). Makes him one of the scarier guys to go up against, even when he's not the final boss or nothin'. In addition to everything covered in the vid, I also kinda appreciate that you can ONLY get Stars against him in Round 3, that your means of getting Stars is extremely obtuse (you're mostly going off gut punches, which requires bating him into blocking his face then throwing a body blow in a frame-or-two window), and that the jerk can STILL dodge outta stunlock if you throw too many Star Uppercuts. You wanna fight him, you gotta forget about all them fancy tricks you've been leaning on and act like a damn boxer already.
Super Macho Man - I'd be less disturbed by the pec wiggle if it didn't sync up perfectly to the music. Stop taunting me to the beat, man. Super Macho Man is a good deal easier than Mr. Sandman, but he still requires a lot of precise timing, particularly on that Super Spin Punch - and lemme tell you, there's nothing as disheartening as seeing a full health meter drain to nothing after you dodged 6 but not the 7th spin around. Whadda jerk.
I’d say the best template to prepare for mike Tyson (or mr dream but who cares about that) is mr sandman

Also, if you’re having trouble getting him to do his uppercut, I believe that you have to face jab when his hands are up there during the taunt, and otherwise he just blocks it and taunts again.
fun fact: soda can be easily knocked down twice by waiting 1 and a half seconds then uppercut as he’s about to hook from the right, then wait half a second to do that again, then do what he says in the video because he will almost always uppercut after the the two counters, then do the block thing 3-4 seconds after the 2nd counter, if you do it to early he will hook you again, then after you have 3 star from the 3 counters, then dodge the next uppercut, then counter punch once then star punch him

@@chestedarmor5578 You know what an emulator Is? I think that in an emulator Is easier, It uses the original FPS, let me know
@@GionaPis-yr3pv Thanks for the advice, but it has been 3 years. I would have to start from scratch to get the muscle memories and honestly that I made it to Sandman is achievement enough for me at this point.
Fun fact: even if you dodge the dreamland express exactly when he flashes, you still would get hit due to the hitboxes
Designing For is a channel worth adding to my AdBlock whitelist. Keep up the good work man.
so I've re-watched this video a few times now and I'm FINALLY able to see the tell just barely. its really just training your brain to fully processes the two frames.
5:42 current objective, survive
Welcome to hell

My man from Philly! The first fight that's just downright difficult.

Beer ads!😆
I always come back and watch this series every few months.
Tike Myson incoming.
It started with jlass goe then kon Kaiser then histon ponda now the last to are muper sacho man and tike myson
Just A person on youtube you can’t forget bald bull.... oh wait
What about Hing Kippo?
@@Shadowlobandi I brought up the first tree then the last two not all
@@manpera13 Hey! You missed Fon dlamanco too!
“Only one more fight between you and your greatest prize” *ad for lawn mower plays*
This is the gift that keeps on giving. Keep up the good work, have a nice day and don't falter.
"The world circuit is all about execution" Yeah, that thing Sandman does when I get in the ring with him.
Great, now the amount of nightmares I have about Mr Sandman are doubled
I've enjoyed these 3 videos. Explains things I never knew about the game.
Mr Sandman telling Mac a bedtime story got me
I didn't think I needed fan art of Sandman at Mac's bedside tucking him in (and decking the fuck out of him), but here I am.
“We’ll come to hell”
Me: plays it on switch online
Me: gets hit
Also Me: holds ZR and ZL goes back and fixes attack movement “I don’t see how this is hard”
Also I’m on super macho man on mike Tysons punch out
That’s what I did
I find it hilarious that the worst part of fighting Macho Man, the champion, is needing to fight Sandman, the one below him, again if you lose.
If you lose to Super Macho Man, you have to fight Don Flamenco, then Mr. Sandman before you get another chance at Super Macho Man.
sandman's name doesn't mean he will take you to the land of discount mike Tyson, it means he will turn you into sand, he did it to a building
Really well made video, you made this super entertaining. Subscribed.
What an awesome vídeo, without a doubt am gonna watch the first two ASAP
9:29 super macho man
Release the Bogus!
It seems like before the dreamland express, sandman's legs go mental
Dude. This video is perfection!
Underrated channel and series. Liked and subbed
7:39 that’s a derpy bald bull

I think that the reason Super Macho Man (easily an easier fight than Mr. Sandman) Is the world Champ, is because you have the mindset of, "Oh god, if SANDMAN was that bad, how bad will THIS guy be?" So to find out he isn't AS bad relives you, and you go into the Mike Tyson fight with confidence, they need you to have that confidence in your own skills jst for Mike Tyson to seem so godlike when he sends you to the mat for the 10 count for quickly.
Surprisingly I'm really good at dodging the express
finishing the series up to this point takes about as long as it would for me to beat the game and eat dinner
Sandman on wii is to easy even in title defense but on nes this man is truly the world circuit champion
Got me good @7:15 🤣🤣🤣
I’d love to see a Designing For for punch out Wii because that game is really great
I like the transition from macho man’s theme back to sandman’s 10:53 😊
Been loving these videos so far!
me 3

The reference to Wreck It Ralph actually made me laugh because I forgot Zangeif said that.
Maybe bad guy isn't really bad guy
4:37 I thought that was Soda Popinski, not Chris Jericho
A LITTLE BIT OF THE BUBBLY
He made a Y2J reference in the Major Circuit episode too. When you drain King Hippo's health, he will never...
*EEEEEEEVVVVVVEEEEERRRR*
get back up.
Thank God that nowadays you can save between matches because I wouldn’t have reached Mike Tyson if I had to repeat Mr Sandman fight every time I lost.
As someone who’s beat punch out 20+ times Sandman has always given me the most problems
i absolutely had no fucking idea Popinski had such a weakness.
wow lmao.
i knew about the delayed uppercut, but had no idea you could counter that and get a star to one shot him.
1:18
Wait a second.....Is that?!
DEMPSEY ROLL!!!!!!
6:45 that’s a tongue twister
7:58 Sandman also gives a tell by not moving for a bit before releasing the Dreamland Express
Fun fact: the scoreboard is a physical thing because some boxers go over it
There is also the Don Flamenco that doesn’t want to die.
Imagine if someone actually tried to do the dreamland express or even super macho man’s spin punch
i don't know if this is a my youtube thing, but i really like that all 3 videos appear one after the other in order, but the mike tyson one doesn't,like in the game i have to look it up to see the fight, and i dunno it seemed kinda funny to me
TH-cam likes shadow banning that one for whatever reason, dunno what I did!
And then they basically turned him into Tyson for the remake
That fight is hard as shit
Wow what a great series!
POV: you didn’t release the bogus
I’d say the Infinity Blade series is a very similar style game given how each battle is pretty much a boss and at the end is a “title bout” each needing great timing and in the first game you need a perfectly positioned parry when you want to get a stun, there are many classes of enemies some are out fighters in fighters and giant sluggers, I wish it could still be bought and played some where other than apple tablets
Am I the only one who finds Macho Man harder than Sandman? Damn single-spin
actually ive noticed that if you pay attention to mr sandman he does have a few frames where he doesnt even move before the dreamland express so there technically are more frames before he does it
Me playing the World Curcuit in Punch Out NES be like oh boy here comes soda popinski aaa
Sandman's 2 frame tell only happens if you dodge a lot as he's about to do it. The key is to not be afraid, aiming to catch the visual cue instead of trying to get a feel for when he's about to do it and blindly dodge. It's still brutally difficult, but manageable
8:04 no you have basically literally a second to react cuz if he stops moving then ya gotta GET OUTTA THERE and there’s a 90 out of a 10% chance that you’ll dodge all of them cuz YA GONNA GET HIT (idk how I caught that flash also lol )
Edit : but don’t worry if your playing on switch Nintendo entertainment system then you just gotta rewind so you get a second chance or 100 chances 🙂👌
I actually paused at the right time when he gave the tell for the dreamland express!
