Gee, Sean, you may want to send Belty B and Motherless May both to town. It sounds like she is just like her mother and will be a big headache. They are all looking great. 🎶🎈
The thought crossed my mind alright. But now I'm thinking she she sort of serving a purpose. A few of the cows are very milky. She'll keep them right 🤞
I didn,t know you had horses Sean until I saw them on your video,I run a small stable on my twenty acre farm, the owners look after them as I am 89,I do some work and tractor drkving, have a good day.
Super stuff Brian fair play to you. Great idea. You get to enjoy the horses without the worry of the minding. I just love the connemaras. I should make more videos on then really. In fact I will. We have 5 ponies a wee Shetland and an ass. I'm going to follow the cows with them this year as an experiment. A clean up crew. It might help with parasites too I'm hoping. Have a great day my friend. The good weather is coming 🙌
I think the roans are the road you should go down with when it comes to future cows them yearling and calves roans are lovely and look like they will all make great cows
Well Andrew I'm thinking my route to market is producing medium to small super hardy easily fleshed hairy and colourful mothers with calves at foot. I'll keep hiefers on for replacements and keep bulls on for at least one winter 🤔
There is a yearling SH pb bull for sale in Kilrush. He looks to be a square roany. As a coincidence, Deerpark Leader was out of a Kilrush mother and he is the MGF of Kilkelly Major.
Super stuff pj thank you for that. I didn't know he's exact breeding till I had him bought. Hopefully he'll turn out to be good one. All my shorthorns are from clare too. My red and white bull was a great shorthorn he. Came from my aunts neighbour below
For the most part a fine lot of calves especially the heifers. I'm thinking you'll lean more towards the Shorthorns and Beltie crosses. You should get some nice color and hybrid vigor from Rubys son. 🙂
Well Joel I'm just in from them now. And only realised I've 3 red belties 3 black belties and 3 roan shorthorns. An amazing turn out. Yes I'm most likely going to go back shorthorn next year. I like the fact jasper aka Ruby's son has a mix of shorthorn too in him. Will be very interesting what we get. He is slightly larger framed than what I've produced this couple of years. But he's not big either. I was apprehensive about him to start with tbh but I'm all in I guess. He who dares wins🤞
I'm sorry you lost the last calf, Seáinín. You have done very well to have 90%. Those calves are looking fantastic. This is a long shot, but I wonder could you graft Motherless May onto Madra, to help the calf and to keep mastitis out of the picture?
I sort of have tried it Willie but she was mad. Wee may has it down to a fine art. I've watched her wait for the calf to suck and then she snakes in no problem. My bet is she'll be the fattest yet. She's stealing on mor freasan red clare and young red. 😂
Absolutely John. I need to get tough on cull. I could sell the whole lot and just keep the two Ruby hiefers and my roans and I could start out again a big step forward
I wonder what motherless May would make now as a drop calf probably €180/200. I think you’d be better off selling her to a dairy to beef farmer. She could go wrong very quickly in your system. That blue calf is a keeper I think.
Probably in and around that Ian . Tbh she's doing no hard and costing practically nothing. I'll most likely leave her lie on, she'll come into something eventually. Some of the cows are to milky so she's sort of playing a roll atm. Madra is a fine hiefer to be sure. I might give her the bull and sell her incalf
Not sure did she die and she lay on her or did she lie on her and she busted her. Either way she was gone. However it's all good 2 to 1 hiefers to bull ratio and a 90'/. Success. Lots to work with
Well Sam no just changing up my treatment timing maturity stage and grazing intensity month on month year by year. Each time I pass through or not I try to leave a different condition and or environment and allow the seed bank of the soil to speak and express it's self so we can learn what it needs or what suits best. One thing for certain is I'll never get into a routine were it's the same same every time.
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 yes thats a shame really at least you could say that was related to it and her definitely out the gap. now you're just questioning everything 😂
I’d be bucket feeding that calf, or better still I’d adopt her onto the cow that lost her calf, she’s starting to look pot gutted ,
Seán I am so sorry about your white calf. Accidents will happen. Thanks for update. All looking great
Seán I am sure that's a raven in the background, giving out about something.
There is something about a raven calling in the distance I find calming. I'm thinking it's the silence. Aka peace and quiet 🙌

Them heifers look great for Thier age.
Thank you lad, Ruby's hiefers are definitely the thickest calves we've had yet

@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 Well I'm delighted she's getting by. There won't be a want on her!
Now the fun begins, figuring out breeding for next year and who stays and who goes.

Bad luck Sean with that calf , it’s obvious but I’ll ask anyway, will Madra take on motherless May ?
I tried it k she was a bit distressed to keep at her. Wee may is going to be the fattest yet watch 😀 she's snaking through them all
@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569that’s gas , she’ll be a lead cow in the future just watch , she’s a survivor

Have you stitched in multiseed or just letting the animals manage it?
Any soil or plant nutrient testing?
